Job Description

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term full time basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 5 years. Position Objective: The Chief Information Officer (CIO) provides strategic leadership and, in accordance with contemporary business and public sector management principles and practices, ensures cost-effectiveness in the provision of high-quality services to internal and external stakeholders.The CIO works closely and engages with the department’s Executive, senior managers, business units and service level partners, to understand their business processes, projects and system requirements. The role also provides whole of agency strategic advice, assesses risk and drives business outcomes through implementation of appropriate technology solutions. Duties: Play a key leadership role in the strategic direction of the department’s information and technology approaches, programs and projects, articulating the vision, negotiating and defining priorities to meet the changing demands and advancements in information management, managing risk, digital technology, AI and cybersecurity.Within the context of the government’s broader information management and digital agenda, provide high level strategic and authoritative policy advice, risk assessment and reporting to the Head of Agency, Deputy Secretary Business Services and Executive on the department’s Information Management Strategy including the development, implementation and support of information, communication and technology solutions, cybersecurity, AI and related infrastructureLead and manage the Information, Communication, Technology and Spatial Services Branch (the branch), including setting direction, implementing change, fostering a partnership approach to the provision of quality services, a focus on continuous improvement and compliance with relevant legislation, frameworks and directions by driving a positive team culture and developing team members.Foster a culture of excellence in customer service and business improvement across the Branch aligned with the corporate objectives, agency values and client business needs and adopt strong change management practices to support the implementation of new digital processes and/or initiatives.Monitor, report and manage the department’s IT related risks in relation to new and legacy systems and facilitate the department’s cybersecurity capability, in conjunction with whole of government cyber capability to ensure to the extent possible, protection from unauthorised access, malicious intrusion and/or loss of department data and information.To apply and for more information, please visit www.jobs.tas.gov.auApplications close 19 November 2025 at 11:55pm.For more information, please contact: Angela ConwayDeputy Secretary, Business ServicesEmail: dsbsadmin@stategrowth.tas.gov.auPhone: 03 6166 3294
