Our Transmission Line group is currently looking to add a Commercial Manager to our growing team, based in Edmonton or Calgary, AB.Reporting to the Vice President, Transmission, we are seeking a skilled professional with extensive experience in contract management & negotiations, project controls, financial analysis, and Salesforce analytics. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of our construction projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and risk mitigation.Duties And ResponsibilitiesSupport contract lifecycle, from tendering to execution, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standardsParticipate in Contract Reviews and Lessons Learned activitiesSupport project management team in change management related mattersEnsure Change Management protocols are established during execution and implementedSupport project teams with contract interpretationDraft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to safeguard the company's interestsSupport project team with validation of incoming change requests and subcontractor notices, where requiredMaintain strong client and stakeholder relationshipsProvide project controls support, that includes risk management related to forecasting, scheduling, and performance evaluationConduct financial evaluations of projects, analyzing budgets, forecasts, and cash flows to optimize profitabilityUtilize Salesforce analytics to assess financial data, track project performance, and enhance business insights for informed decision-makingWork closely with estimating, project management, legal, finance, and operations teams to drive commercial successIdentify potential risks in contracts and projects (including financial, legal, and operational risks), developing mitigation strategies to minimize impactHandle claims and disputes professionally, ensuring fair outcomes and minimizing financial exposureStay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamicsRequirementsPost-Secondary Education in a related field (i.e. business administration, finance, law, construction management, etc.)5+ years' experience in commercial or contract management, preferably in the construction industryExpertise with contract law, and dispute resolutionStrong financial acumen, with proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and cost managementExperience with Salesforce analytics, including dashboard creation, reporting, and data visualization for financial and operational insightsProven negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skillsDemonstrated competence in relevant software such as Microsoft Office, contract management systems, and financial analysis toolsPreferred Skills / QualificationsCommercial and project controls experience in large-scale commercial or infrastructure projectsFamiliarity with construction procurement and subcontractor managementExperience in transmission line construction Job Posting End Date: November 30th, 2025BenefitsWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.About Our BusinessValard Construction is Canada's premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
