MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for theposition of Construction Inspector in the Technical Services Division.Reporting to the Construction Field Manager, you will be responsible foron-site oversight and monitoring of capital/O&M construction contractsto ensure compliance with contract documents and required qualitylevels. Additionally, you will keep and maintain accurate records ofconstruction progress and report activities to others in accordance withMMSD policies and procedures. \*Conduct on-site inspections of variousMMSD projects to determine compliance with contract documents, codes,regulations, etc. Alert the construction manager and contractor toconditions and/or activities that do not comply with contract documentsor standards. \*Complete inspection reports and other project requireddocuments and records utilizing construction management software.\*Ensure contractor compliance and project conformance with plans andspecifications. \*Maintain construction progress redline drawingsdetailing deviations from the contract as originally shown.\*Communicate with the construction manager regarding contractor dailywork activities and project issues. \*Assist the construction managerwith preparation and processing of contract documentation anddeliverables, including submittals, RFIs, punch lists, O&M manuals,spare parts transfer, contract substantial/final completion, etc.\*Assist the construction manager in coordination of contractor workactivities with ongoing operation and/or maintenance of MMSD assets.\*Observe and evaluate potential hazards and unsafe conditions.Communicate/coordinate with the construction manager and safety staff inan effort to prevent accidents and unsafe conditions. \*Communicateaccurate project information to internal and external stakeholders,including the general public. \*Test contractor work by taking concretecylinders, or other samples, in order to comprehensively monitor qualityof work. \*Maintain technical competency and remain current withtechnological changes in the industry. \*Complete special projects andother duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: \*This work requiresthe occasional exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force. \*Work regularlyrequires speaking or hearing; frequently requires standing and walking;occasionally requires sitting, using hands, climbing or balancing,kneeling or crawling; reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling,and pushing or pulling. \*Ability to access a confined space through a20-inch diameter opening. Sensory Requirements: \*Work has standardVision Requirements. Vocal Communication Is Required For Conveyingdetailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, orquickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spokenword levels. \*Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computerdata, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, anduse of measuring devices. Environmental Exposures: \*Work regularlyrequires working near moving mechanical parts and equipment. Workoccasionally requires exposure to high/precarious places, fumes orairborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, wet/humid conditions(non-weather), toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat(non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and vibration. \*Work isgenerally in a loud noise location. Requires the use of safety glassesand shoes, ardhat, hearing protection, coveralls, rain gear, gasdetector, and self-rescuer as dictated by the location and type of workbeing performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enableindividuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of thisjob. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: \*Associate degreein civil/mechanical/industrial engineering, construction management, ora related field. \*Two years of job-related experience (advancededucation degrees will be considered in lieu of experience). \*Effectivecommunication and interpersonal skills. \*Ability to keep accurate anddetailed field notes and contribute to detailed technical daily reportsand records. \*Ability to establish and maintain effective public andworking relations. \*Ability to read, interpret, and work with contractdocuments, specifications, and plans. \*Knowledge of and the ability toapply various construction codes and standards. \*Ability to applyknowledge of safety rules and regulations to ensure safe completion ofconstruction. \*Ability to utilize field testing equipment. \*Confinedspace entry and CPR certifications (provided by MMSD). \*Valid driver\'slicense required and a good driving record at time of application,during the selection process, and throughout employment.
