The new Dallas-North office is located in a mixed-use building with access to retail, restaurants and apartments at Legacy West in Plano – home to several national and global corporations.The Director of Business Development will lead and manage the firm’s Business Development (BD) Managers, driving strategic initiatives that enhance attorney engagement, client development, and firmwide growth. This role will oversee the design and execution of attorney BD training programs, lateral attorney integration, and internal BD team development. The Director will also spearhead the firm’s awards and directory submission strategy, manage vendor relationships, and collaborate closely with Marketing Technology (MarTech) to ensure effective adoption of BD tools. Additional responsibilities may be added as necessary.Essential DutiesLeadership & ManagementSupervise and mentor BD Managers across the firm, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.Work with the CMO to advise Practice Group Leaders and DAPs on BD strategy and execution.Facilitate cross-office collaboration and consistency in BD practices.Training & IntegrationDesign and implement a comprehensive attorney BD training curriculum.Lead integration efforts for lateral attorneys, ensuring seamless onboarding and BD engagement.Develop internal training programs for BD department staff to support professional growth and performance.Awards & DirectoriesCreate and manage a strategic plan for awards and directory submissions (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500).Coordinate with attorneys and BD Managers and external consultants to gather content and ensure timely submissions.MarTech CollaborationPartner with MarTech to drive BD Manager adoption of CRM, content management, analytics, and other BD tools.Monitor usage and effectiveness of BD technologies, recommending improvements as needed.Office Presence & TravelMaintain a consistent in-office presence (minimum four days/week; five as needed).Travel regularly to other firm offices to meet with BD Managers and DAPs, fostering strong relationships and local engagement.Reporting RelationshipThe Director of Business Development reports directly to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).Subordinate staff: Business Development Managers.QualificationsKnowledge/Experience10+ years of experience in business development, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.Proven leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.Strong understanding of legal industry awards, directories, and BD best practices.Familiarity with MarTech platforms and CRM systems (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce).Excellent communication, project management, and interpersonal skills.Ability to travel regularly and work in-office as required.Preferred AttributesStrategic thinker with a hands-on approach.Collaborative and adaptable across diverse teams and geographies.Committed to professional development and continuous improvement. EducationBachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field required. A graduate level degree is desirable, especially an MBA and/or a legal degree.Physical DemandsMust be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time to make copies, fax, file, etc. Remains stationary at least 85% of the time. This position operates computers and other office productivity machines (e.g., fax machine, copier, printer, etc.) on a regular basis. Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients and staff. This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 90% of the time.
