Job Description

We are looking for an Electrical Field Engineer to join our product development team in Waterloo, ON, to help design the next generation of mobile and stationary security devices. In this role, you will work closely with the Electrical Engineering team to build and test prototype solutions, and you will also support the deployment and servicing of these devices in the field.This is a great opportunity to be part of a team responsible for designing and building concept vehicles and devices for the security industry. The role includes travel to customer or test sites for on-site troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of advanced electromechanical systems.The ideal candidate has experience designing reliable, complex electromechanical systems and takes pride in delivering the most dependable security devices in the industry. You’re equally comfortable at a workbench or in the field, and you’re motivated by solving real-world problems, wherever they arise.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and operate electrical systems for proof-of-concept security devicesDevelop component requirements and work with suppliers to select and procure samplesDesign and manage product system architecturesCreate and manage BOMs and engineering design documentation packagesWork with the existing team to assemble, build, test, and operate prototype devicesCreate, revise, and maintain design and technical documentationDevelop and execute test plans for sub-assembliesCollaborate with production teams to implement best practices for assembly and installationDefine the electro-mechanical details of upcoming products and devicesTravel to customer sites and field locations to support the installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and validation of deployed systemsProvide technical leadership on best practices and stay up to date with industry-leading technologies and methodsQualificationsDegree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)Strong design experience in at least one of the following: electrical hardware, wiring systems, networks, embedded firmware, or mechanical systemsHands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting electrical/electromechanical prototypesField service or deployment experience with complex hardware systems is an assetCompetency with electrical CAD tools, with preference for Altium DesignerExperience designing schematics, single-line/multi-line diagrams (SolidWorks Electrical experience is a plus)Competency with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)Strong understanding of communication protocols and interfaces such as MIPI, BLE, I2C, SPI, UART, and CANExperience with PLCs and industrial control systemsMechanically inclined, comfortable working hands-on with tools and physical hardwareComfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment (experience overlapping with software, mechanical, or manufacturing teams is a plus)Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and testingAbility to travel to customer or test sites to perform technical troubleshooting, support installations, or validate systems in the fieldNice to HaveAble to work in a project start-up context and to deal with objectives being definedAble to see any complex system as a set of small subsystemsDesign experience in functional safetyDesign experience in power systems, especially high-capacity batteriesBackground in mobile robotics (SDVs, AMRs)Passion for robotics and hardware developmentExperience developing hardware with 3rd party ODMsSoftware development with ROS/ROS 2Standards and certification experience$75,000 - $90,000 a yearOur PeopleWe hire those who add positivity, take pride in their work, and learn fearlessly.
