Title: Emotional Wellness CounselorReports to: Campus DirectorPosition type: 12 month position (Exempt)Company OverviewNew Beginnings High School (NBHS) is an innovative organization, transforming education through academic and social support services. Our Mission is to create the best educational environment for students who are seeking a new beginning. Position SummaryThe Emotional Wellness Counselor (EWC) provides diagnostic assessments, therapy, and counseling and support services for NBHS youth experiencing mental/emotional health issues, communication challenges, or conflict.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport NBHS by attending community service and outreach activities throughout the year.Conduct intake interviews with students who request counseling services and complete the required clinical documentation. Provide individual, group or/and virtual counseling to students on a scheduled basis or through crisis intervention.Maintain up-to-date clinical documentation.Consult and train supervisors, teachers and staff as needed.Act as a campus resource on student emotional, counseling, and psychological matters.Act as a liaison between client and campus or community resources.Attend training seminars, staff meetings, and supervision meetings.  Commit to and participate in a full-time, 40 hours per week internship (if applicable)Build relationships with community organizations, stakeholders and other key individuals connected to the school.Provide excellent customer service.Support school Mission by assisting with home visits.Conduct annual review and propose appropriate updates to the Emotional Wellness Counselor Reference & Procedures Manual. Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsMaster’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology or Social WorkActive DOH license as a Mental Health Professional ( i.e., Mental Health Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, Clinical Pathologist) or Registered Mental Health Counselor InternExcellent written and verbal communication skillsBackground check and fingerprinting clearanceKnowledge and ability to operate standard office equipmentKnowledgeable of mental health counseling policies, regulations, and lawsKnowledge of applicable computer software and hardware process applications such as spreadsheets, word-processing, database and operating systems, and/or presentation softwareValid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation, and valid automobile insuranceKey CompetenciesAble to adapt to changing work priorities. Ability to coordinate work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Able to exhibit tact and patience. Able to perform duties accurately and efficiently. Able to interact with staff and students in a professional and ethical manner. Ability to work both independently and as a team member with other individuals and organizations. Able to set high expectations, contributing positively to NBHS culture. Ability to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies. Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with individuals/groups from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Desire to serve students in an above and beyond mentality. Periodically checks emails and phone messages after hours and on the weekend. Urgent work-related email and phone messages should be answered after 1-2 hours of receipt.Physical Environment Requires working indoors in an environmentally controlled office setting. Requires sitting for the majority of the day. Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read, prepare, and proofread documents; sitting for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects. The ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 50 pounds.
