EGSC offers challenging and rewarding skills development and the ability to work with a range of interesting planning projects.A unique blend of nature, culture, and recreational opportunities, East Gippsland Shire is a captivating destination for those looking to broaden their skills whilst enjoying an enviable lifestyle.Position OverviewAs the Environmental Planning Officer, you will provide specialist environmental advice on strategic and statutory land use planning matters to ensure Council meets obligations under the Planning Scheme and relevant legislation.In This Role You WillAssess planning permit applications for environmental impacts and prepare detailed reports for Council and delegated decision-makers.Provide specialist advice on environmental planning requirements to developers, consultants, and the public, ensuring compliance with the Planning Scheme and legislation.Undertake referrals and consultations with government agencies and authorities on environmental matters related to land use and development.Assist with investigations and enforcement actions for breaches involving environmental issues, including preparing cases for VCAT.Contribute to the development of planning policies and guidelines focused on environmental and biodiversity considerations.Why You'll Love EGSCFlexible working arrangements including 60/40 hybrid office/WFH options, monthly ADOs and additional purchased leave optionsWork on a banded salary that increases annually to the top end of the bandSupport to grow your career through professional development opportunities and study assistanceDiscounted membership to our Recreation Centres17 weeks paid parental leaveAnnual leave loading paid as a lump sum each year in DecemberEmployee Assistance Program and Social ClubA stunning region to live, work and play in - beaches, lakes and mountains right at your fingertips!Diversity in range of interesting projects - natural environmental, built environment, small towns, coastal development, rural land & agricultural matters.What We Require From You (Key Selection Criteria)Relevant qualifications and experience, including knowledge of current planning policies and legislation.Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, public, consultants and statutory authorities.Knowledge of and the ability to interpret, the various applicable Acts and Regulations relating to Council Planning matters.Ability to investigate, prepare and complete reports on a wide range of environmental matters, and make recommendations to management and Council.Capacity to make independent and unassisted decisions on operational matters.Ability to produce work, which is timely, accurate and to a high professional standard.Ability to work with and guide others in a multi-disciplinary team and be adaptable to change.This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, based in Bairnsdale. The successful candidate will be expected to work from the office at least 3 days per week. While we offer a hybrid 60/40 in office/WFH model you need to live in or near the region to perform the duties of the role. If successful, you will need to undertake a police check.
