This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of structural steel projects and grow within an industry-leading company.Reports ToSales Manager / Chief EstimatorPosition SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Estimator with in-depth knowledge of steel fabricating and installation processes. The ideal candidate has strong business acumen, analytical abilities, and excellent communication skills. You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of preparing accurate and detailed quantity takeoffs and estimates for a variety of structural steel projects. This role plays a key part in supporting project success through careful cost analysis, risk assessment, and collaboration with internal teams and clients.What we offerCompetitive salary range: $75,000 to $90,000+ per year, commensurate with experienceExtended health and dental benefitsPaid vacation and personal daysProfessional development and training supportKey ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret both Structural and Architectural drawingsDownload and review project plans and specificationsIdentify labour, materials, time constraints, related costs, and other requirements by thoroughly analyzing client tender invitations and project documentsConduct risk assessments to account for factors such as weather, schedule, special materials, labour requirements, and contractual obligationsInterpret project specifications and tender requirements; prepare and submit completed tenders according to bid instructionsPerform detailed quantity takeoffs with speed and accuracyGather competitive quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliersPrepare detailed shop and field estimates, including tender/proposal letters with terms and conditionsPrepare budget estimates as requested by customersReview and assess cost estimates to ensure accuracy and relevancePrepare bonding applications as neededAttend site visits to assess access and site conditionsAttend pre-award and award meetingsReview prime and subcontracts to identify potential risks to the companyFollow up on submitted tenders and budgets with customersPerform other duties as may be reasonably required to support the company and managementRequirementsMinimum 5 years of relevant experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals estimating (shop and field)Degree in Engineering, Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), and/or Construction Estimator Certificate (GSC) considered an assetStrong mathematical and analytical skillsProficient in both metric and imperial conversionsProficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word) and BluebeamExcellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilitiesKnowledge of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) and/or AISC standards is an assetMust own a vehicle and be able to travel to construction sites and meetings as requiredApplication ProcessPlease submit your resume highlighting your experience and qualifications for the Estimator role to hr@solidrocksteel.com.
