Job Opportunity: Financial Controller (Temporary Assignment)Organization: University of GroningenWeekly hours: 32–40Indicative monthly salary: €5,835 (based on a 36-hour work week)Contract period: December 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026Reason for vacancy: Maternity leave coverOur client is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to provide temporary cover within the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences (GMW). The ideal candidate will be able to start in early December to ensure a smooth handover with the current controller before their maternity leave begins.In this position, you will be part of the Finance team within the Financial Shared Service Center (FSSC) and work closely with colleagues both at the FSSC and on-site at the GMW faculty.ResponsibilitiesAs the Financial Controller, your core mission is to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all financial reporting for the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. You will maintain clear oversight of forecasts, budgets, and actuals at all times.Your key tasks include:Contributing proactively to the effectiveness of the planning and control cycle.Supporting the preparation of the faculty’s budget and financial forecasts.Producing financial reports independently and conducting detailed data analyses.Collaborating closely with the Director of Operations and the Management Controller on financial matters.Acting as a central point of contact for financial inquiries across the faculty.Equally important is your role as a bridge between the FSSC and the faculty — ensuring smooth collaboration, clear communication, and consistent quality in all financial processes.Team StructureYou will work within the FSSC’s team of 22 financial controllers. For the GMW faculty specifically, your direct team includes:A Management ControllerThree Project ControllersA highly experienced Financial Controller AssistantYour working location will be divided as follows:1 day per week at the FSSC office (Blauwborgje 8, Groningen)1 day per week working from homeRemaining days at the GMW faculty (Grote Kruisstraat 2/1, near Noorderplantsoen, Groningen)What You BringA Bachelor’s or Master’s level background in Finance, Business Economics, Business Administration, or Accountancy.Experience with AFAS and Power BI (preferred).Strong analytical abilities.Solid planning and organizational skills.High level of accuracy and attention to detail.A collaborative mindset and a positive, team-oriented attitude.Please note: This job posting is just a preview of the full scope of the position.
