In this role, you’ll own core parts of the backend system, help define scalable architecture, and collaborate closely with engineers and product teams.We’re looking for someone with hands-on experience across the stack and at least 2+ year of technical leadership — whether that’s mentoring, making architecture decisions, or guiding feature implementation.ResponsibilitiesSet and create engineering ecosystem, best practices, tooling, and architect complex systemsExperience with using AI Tools in solving complex coding problemsDesign and build scalable backend systems using Node.js and PostgreSQLDevelop robust APIs (REST or GraphQL)Lead engineering practices and mentor team membersCollaborate with engineers to deliver end-to-end featuresDeploy and manage infrastructure on cloud services like AWS and VercelMaintain and evolve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins)Work with both relational and NoSQL databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, FirebaseDesign and integrate message queue systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis Streams)Make thoughtful architectural decisions and performance optimizationsTech StackBackendNode.js and NextJS API routesExpress and/or NestJSPostgreSQL and/or other relational database expertiseMongoDB or similar document-oriented database experienceSupabaseDockerGitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar CICD pipeliningAWS / GCP / AzureMessage Queues: RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis StreamsFrontendReactNext.jsComponent libraries (e.g., Radix UI)RequirementsAt least 2+ year of experience in a technical leadership or mentoring roleUses AI to code on a daily basis; Loveable, v0, ChatGPT etc5+ years of experience as a full-stack engineerStrong backend expertise with Node.js and relational databasesExperience building and scaling APIs and backend systemsCloud infrastructure experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Solid hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD toolsExperience designing and integrating message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Redis Streams)Strong understanding of performance, security, and backend architectureWhy Join STERRY?We’re a global, fast-moving agency that’s obsessed with pushing creative and digital boundaries.
