About UsSeven Seas International School is a small preschool and elementary school in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo, working with children ages 2-12. We're an IB Candidate School, but what really defines us is how we blend international education with Japanese cultural values—teaching students to be curious, confident, and respectful of themselves, others, and the world around them.Our students don't just learn in classrooms. They take trains to museums, perform in front of 100+ people at our Christmas concert, and participate in neighborhood Halloween parades. Our level-based approach means children are grouped by developmental readiness rather than age, so every student gets what they actually need.The RoleWe're looking for an experienced homeroom teacher to join our team. You'll be working with one of our level-based classes (children ages 2-8), guiding them through their days with a mix of structured learning, hands-on exploration, and real-world experiences.Class placement depends on your strengths and experience—we figure out together where you'll make the biggest impact. Lessons run in 30-50 minute blocks covering English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Creative Arts, and you'll also support our after-school program with mixed-age groups.ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:Teaching daily lessons across subjects for your assigned level-based classPlanning collaboratively with colleagues to adapt curriculum for individual studentsTaking students on train excursions and supporting them through public performancesGuiding students in our Buddy System, where older kids mentor younger onesHelping students develop independence, focus, and emotional regulationBuilding genuine relationships with students while setting clear boundariesCommunicating with families and contributing ideas to our curriculumQualificationsWhat we need:At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience (homeroom preferred)Fluent English (native or near-native)Currently living in Japan with a valid work visaBachelor's degree (Education or related field preferred)Strong classroom management skillsWhat helps:Experience with inquiry-based or project-based learningFamiliarity with IB philosophy (nice to have, not required)Background working with young children (ages 2-8)Comfort with approaches like Montessori or other child-centered methodsAppreciation for Japanese culture and how it shows up in our schoolWhat matters most:You're warm and enthusiastic, but also know how to set clear expectationsYou're flexible and enjoy collaborating with a small teamYou can read a room and adjust your teaching when neededYou respect both structure and creativity, and know when each mattersYou genuinely love helping children become independent, confident learnersNote: We welcome both international and Japanese educators who are passionate about English-immersion education.
