Under the leadership of a Senior Human Resources Partner (SHRP), the HR Associate (HRA) will work alongside HR Partners and Shared Services to provide HR generalist services. This role will provide consultative services on uncomplex employee/labour relations matters, support HR operations in collaboration with Shared Services, and works with the HR Centres of Expertise to implement HR programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background as an HR Generalist in HR operations. The HRA will work within a large, unionized, complex organization and will collaborate with the HR Partners, HRHSE Centers of Excellence (CoE)’s and the Staff Service Center to support numerous programs and initiatives.Responsibilities Human Resources Operations:Support departments/faculties in HR Operations in collaboration with the Shared ServicesAnalyze trends and recommend process improvements to the Senior HR Partner.Communicate proactively with Finance and HR Partners to address emerging issues in a timely manner.Escalate employment, benefits and payroll-related issues to Shared Services for various employee types and support staff, graduate assistants, academic teaching staff, casual appointments, and temporary appointments.Participate in assigned projects, committees, and cohorts. Talent Acquisition:Provide advice and support for the end-to-end recruitment process, working with the appropriate stakeholders.Assist in the recruitment and selection of tenure-track faculty positions.Support duty to accommodate and recall processes in collaboration with Shared Services.Facilitate the onboarding of new employees, providing the necessary tools and resources.Coordinate non-Canadian hires and support relocation processes with Shared Services Job Design and Organization Development:Create or review Job Fact Sheets/Position descriptions in consultation with HR Partners and Job Design and Evaluation (JDE) teams.Collaborate with JDE to align job evaluations with expectations.Make recommendations on appropriate position evaluation for casual appointments.Provide preliminary advice on hiring policies and procedures for research project personnel. Performance Development:Support departments/faculties in complying with annual performance appraisal and probationary review processes.Provide ongoing support and coaching to people leaders on performance development and management. Learning and Development:Support the implementation of institutional programs and initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness and learning.Conduct or arrange in-service training for departments/faculties under the direction of HR Partners or Senior HR Partner. Employee Relations:Provide advice on collective agreements, handbooks, policies, and procedures to employees at all levels.Support attendance and absenteeism issues, return to work planning, accommodations, terminations, coaching, counseling, and discipline recommendations under the direction of the Senior HR Partner.Assist with workplace disruptions and conduct research for disputes, grievances, complaints, and arbitrations.Support the delivery of offboarding programs for voluntary and involuntary terminations. Employee Wellness and Return to Work:Assist leaders and supervisors in facilitating the return to work process for employees on leave of absence.Identify and address potential workplace issues to support a successful return to work.Participate in developing and implementing return to work plans, including temporary modified duties and permanent accommodations.Collaborate with relevant units and partners to gather required information for a successful return to work.QualificationsBachelor's degree, preferably with a specialization in Human Resources or a related discipline.Minimum of 2-3 years of HR generalist experience in a unionized environment.CHRP designation (asset).Experience working in a large and complex organization or public sector (asset).Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and collective agreements.Proficiency in HR systems, such as PeopleSoft applications (Campus Solutions and HCM) and Google Suites.Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Demonstrated professionalism, results orientation, teamwork, flexibility/adaptability, and customer service skills.If you are a highly motivated and detail-oriented HR professional looking to contribute to the success of our organization, we encourage you to apply for this position.
