Our team designs and develops complex mechanical systems and machines from concept to completion, with a focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.About The RoleOur client is seeking an experienced IT Team Lead to oversee and coordinate the daily operational activities of the IT function. This role is responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and cost-effective IT services across infrastructure, applications, data management, collaboration platforms, and cybersecurity.The successful candidate will drive digital transformation initiatives, support engineering software workflows, and ensure technology aligns with business strategy. The role operates within a matrix reporting structure, ensuring local IT priorities are achieved while remaining aligned with Group IT standards, governance frameworks, and cybersecurity requirements.POSITION INFO:Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical LeadershipSupport and implement an IT strategy aligned with business objectives.Define, monitor and report on IT metrics and KPIs to senior management.Lead, mentor and manage IT team members.Document and enforce IT processes, policies and standards.Facilitate IT onboarding/offboarding and training for staff.Provide hands-on technical expertise across infrastructure, systems and end-user environments.Troubleshoot complex technical issues escalated from the service desk.Ensure stability and performance of IT infrastructure including:Microsoft 365Windows Server environmentsActive Directory / Azure ADNetworking infrastructureBackup and disaster recovery systemsEndpoint management systemsEnterprise applicationsIT Infrastructure (Network, Hardware & Applications)Oversee and maintain servers, networking, cloud services and backup systems.Plan and manage network infrastructure installations including cabling, routers and Wi-Fi access points.Monitor system performance and ensure infrastructure reliability.Ensure hardware and software installations meet company standards.Manage the lifecycle of business and engineering applications (selection, deployment, licensing, upgrades and support).Manage IT support services including the service desk, hardware lifecycle and remote access solutions.Troubleshoot technical issues to minimise downtime and productivity loss.Configure and support Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 environments.Coordinate with external software vendors to resolve technical issues.Maintain and audit an accurate database of all IT assets.Manage data storage, access controls and secure file sharing processes.IT SecurityEnsure alignment with Group IT security policies and cybersecurity frameworks.Maintain cybersecurity governance including risk assessments, vulnerability management and incident response.Implement Group IT security directives and controls at site level.Support POPIA compliance in collaboration with HR and Administration.Assist with security audits, assessments and certification initiatives.Ensure endpoint, network and cloud security controls are implemented effectively.Promote cybersecurity awareness and training among employees.Ensure security incidents are reported and managed according to Group procedures.BackupsImplement and monitor the backup strategy to ensure data integrity and availability.Budgeting & ProcurementCompile and manage the annual IT budget.Procure IT equipment including PCs, laptops and peripherals.Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts and control costs.Digital TransformationLead digital initiatives including business process automation, cloud migration, collaboration platforms and analytics.Reporting StructureReports to the Managing Director.Works closely with Human Resources & Administration, Quality Assurance, internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors and clients.QualificationsMinimum RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.Relevant certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 are advantageous.ExperienceMinimum 6 years’ experience in IT, including 3 years in a leadership or management role.Proven experience managing IT infrastructure, enterprise applications and cybersecurity.Experience supporting multi-site environments and remote users.Strong background in vendor management, procurement and contract negotiation.Experience working with IT governance frameworks (e.g., ITIL) and service management practices.Exposure to internal and external audits, including compliance and remediation processes.Technical SkillsInfrastructure: Windows Server, Active Directory / Azure AD, DNS, DHCPCloud & Networking: Azure, VPN, SD-WAN, firewall and network designSecurity: Endpoint protection, EDR, SIEM, MFA, encryptionCollaboration: Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) and ExchangeAutomation: PowerShell scripting advantageousCompetenciesStrong project and stakeholder management skillsVendor, contract and licence management experienceKnowledge of data governance, information security and complianceEnterprise architecture awarenessPersonal AttributesHigh integrity, professionalism and ethical standardsStrong attention to detail and organisational skillsSelf-driven with a proactive, solution-oriented mindsetAbility to work under pressure and manage multiple prioritiesExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsResilient and adaptable in a dynamic work environment
