The Cost Estimation & Quote Lead (SME) is a high-impact role responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing comprehensive cost estimates for new automotive components, assemblies, and programs.As the organization’s subject matter expert, this position provides strategic financial insight and cost leadership during quotation, sourcing, and launch phases, supporting Program Management, Engineering, Operations, and Purchasing in key decision-making processes.⸻Key Responsibilities• Lead the analysis of customer RFQs, engineering drawings, CAD data, and technical specifications to develop detailed cost breakdowns for products and tooling.• Build, validate, and refine end-to-end cost models encompassing materials, labor, machine utilization, tooling, packaging, logistics, overhead, and capital investment.• Partner with cross-functional teams to define viable manufacturing processes and cost-effective production strategies.• Deliver cost summaries, margin analysis, and price proposals to support customer quotations and internal financial reviews.• Assess supplier quotations for raw materials, components, and tooling; benchmark competitiveness and identify cost risk or opportunity areas.• Identify cost drivers and lead value engineering, process optimization, or design-to-cost initiatives.• Maintain and improve cost databases, ensuring alignment with standard rates, manufacturing assumptions, and corporate costing methodologies.• Track cost evolution from prototype through SOP (Start of Production) and provide visibility to leadership.• Support ECN evaluations through financial impact analysis and scenario modeling.• Contribute to financial planning, target cost achievement, and profitability improvement programs.⸻Qualifications• Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, or related field.• Experience: 5–8 years of solid, hands-on experience in cost estimation, quoting, should-cost analysis, or financial modeling within automotive manufacturing (Tier 1/Tier 2 preferred).• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, including stamping, machining, welding, injection molding, and assembly operations.• Tools: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and costing/quotation software.• Documentation: Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, process flows, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).• Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical skills, financial acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex cost structures clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.⸻Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)• Experience leading full RFQ cycles and cost negotiations.• Knowledge of should-cost modeling frameworks.• Exposure to design-to-cost, VA/VE, or continuous improvement initiatives.• Experience supporting customer or supplier negotiations.NIDEC AMEC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
