Motion Robotics is part of the PowerHandling Group, a US-based company with more than 25 years designing and building material-handling technologies, with Motion Robotics being the division focused on autonomous machines. We are an international team, working in Portugal on a range of AMRs and are now scaling up our operations, moving from ideas to prototypes and prototypes to volume production of machines. Mechanical, electrical and software engineering will all be happening here in Portugal, then expanding production and sales through the US parent, PowerHandling Inc.We’re a very multi-cultural team, innovative and driven, international team that values practical problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on engineering.About the RoleWe are expanding our team and looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience — and enthusiasm — for machinery design and mobile robotics. You’ll work closely with mechanical, electronics, and software engineers to design and refine the mechanical systems behind our autonomous mobile robots, supporting the full cycle from concept and CAD modeling through prototyping, testing and production. This is a hands-on role where you’ll balance functionality, manufacturability, and reliability, improving designs as they evolve and supporting the transition from prototype to production — and see your work deployed in operational robots across industrial environments. What You’ll DoDesign and develop mechanical assemblies and mechanisms for mobile robotic systems using Onshape, a collaborative CAD platform.Take projects from concept through CAD design to a working prototype, then inhouse testing, refinement, field testing and ultimately to production.Solve design challenges and continuously improve performance and manufacturability.Create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings with GD&T standards.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet engineering and production goals. What We’re Looking ForBSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design Engineering.3+ years of experience designing industrial equipment.Proven experience designing machines or mechanical systems that have been manufactured.Proficiency in SolidWorks, Onshape or similar 3D CAD tools.Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical drawings for manufacturing and assembly.Nice to HaveExperience with FEA, CNC, sheet metal, or laser-cut fabrication.Knowledge of vacuum-formed or injection-molded plastic design.Familiarity with Design Thinking, Agile methodologies, or rapid prototyping.Awareness of DFM and DFA principles. Why You’ll Love Working HereSee your designs progress from concept to working robots used in real industrial settings.Be part of a multidisciplinary team supported by an established U.S. parent company.A competitive salary, balanced work life, and career growth opportunities as the company’s engineering and product lines expand.Relocation support and eligibility for Portugal’s NHR 2.0 program for foreign engineers (providing an advantageous tax treatment for 10 years).
