Working with the consultant pathologists and staff of Pathology Department to ensure that the histology specimens received daily are promptly and efficiently processed and stained for examination and diagnosis by pathologists.Required to perform shift duties and call back dutiesResponsibilitiesTo maintain proper inventory levels of all supplies via the laboratory computer system and take appropriate actions to rectify any deficiencies. To review daily quality control (QC) results and discuss with Consultant Pathologists to improve areas of deficiencies. To ensure compliance with all regulatory guidelines, participating in hospital quality assurance programs, audit process, etc. To assist the Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager and Consultant Pathologists / Medical Director in supervision, problem solving and quality control / safety of the Histology Department. To assist the Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager in planning purchases, budgeting, audit, etc. To act as deputy or in-charge of the Histology Department in the absence of Senior Medical Technologist or Section Manager.Supervise junior or new staff. To be responsible for on-the-job training of new staff. To be involved in the preparation and maintaining current work instruction manuals and assist in ensuring follow through by staff. Supports flexible staffing requirements in the department. Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.Qualifications And ExperiencesRecognized Certificate in Medical LaboratoryTechnology, Science degree, Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent.Five years' experience in a histology laboratory. Prior experience in senior grade preferred.Proficient and skillful in histology work processes / quality control.Interpersonal, communication and computer skillsAdditional InformationTechnical Competency Successful completion of various section training checklists and acquires the necessary job knowledge for effective job performance. Communication Skill Interact effectively in conveying job information both oral and written Computer Skill Able to work with the computer system in the lab. Training and Teaching To carry out on-the-job training for new staff/trainees. Problem Solving Skill Able to independently troubleshoot problems that arise and resolve problems in consultation with the superior.
