The BIS Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) has an opportunity available for a Member of Secretariat to join the team.The role is based in Basel, Switzerland, however, thanks to our status as an international organisation, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.This job is available as three years fixed term.The deadline for application is on Wednesday 26 November 2025 end of the day.Purpose Of The RoleThe Member of Secretariat position within the CPMI requires extensive experience as a policy expert with a deep understanding of the mechanics of payment systems and other financial market structures. It also requires extensive experience in public policy making, especially in an international context.By Joining The CPMIYou will become part of a dynamic, diverse and highly engaged team. The CPMI Secretariat team supports the Committee and its various international working groups as well as those under its joint work with the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and other international bodies.You will gain first-hand experience in international policymaking and in coordinating efforts among key international standard-setters and organisations.You will be part of global efforts in making cross-border payments safer, less costly, more transparent and inclusive; and ensuring financial market infrastructures remain a source of stability in both normal times and times of stress.You will have opportunities to professionally grow through interactions and collaboration with a diverse range of public and private stakeholders as well as policy and research experts within and beyond the BIS. Principal AccountabilitiesProvide secretariat support for the CPMI and/or CPMI-IOSCO and their working groups and task forces.Coordinate and organise support activities for specific subgroups in collaboration with the subgroup chair and line manager.Prepare background analyses, including meeting documents, for meetings involving high-level central bank officials on payments and financial market infrastructure issues.Organise the preparation, publication and distribution of reports developed by the CPMI and/or CPMI-IOSCO or their subgroups.Monitor and analyse developments in payments and financial market infrastructures and assess their implications for the functioning and stability of the financial system.Define and conduct research and policy analysis to be included in BIS publications.Establish and maintain professional contacts, partnerships and effective communication within the BIS, the central banking and regulatory communities (including relevant regional forums and associations), and with market participants and industry groups.Represent the BIS and the CPMI at meetings hosted by central banks and other international organisations.Deliver presentations on the work of the CPMI and/or CPMI-IOSCO at seminars and conferences.Qualifications, Skills, And ExperienceAdvanced degree in economics, finance, law, information technology or related fields from a university of international standing.Solid understanding of financial market structures and developments, particularly risk management issues in financial market infrastructures, and related regulatory, supervisory and oversight matters.Knowledge of payment and financial market infrastructure issues related to digital innovation and financial integrity (eg anti-money laundering) is an asset.Proactive and result-oriented approach with a strong team spirit and excellent interpersonal skills.Strategic thinking, long-term planning, and effective coordination and negotiation capabilities.Strong analytical skills with experience in innovative, policy-relevant research.Excellent drafting and communication skills in English, both written and spoken, for technical and non-technical audiences.Several years of work experience in public policymaking, particularly in the areas related to CPMI or CPMI-IOSCO policy and standard-setting work.Practical experience as a supervisor or overseer of a financial market infrastructure is beneficial.Who We AreInternationalism is at the core of our identity and the best representation of this is our workforce.
