Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.Job DescriptionEnsure health and safety by adhering to all legislative requirements, procedures, standards and guidelinesLead, control and motivate team to ensure that all Safety, Health, Environmental and Production targets are achievedCommunicate all legal and operational policies, procedures, standards and guidelines relevant to area of responsibility and ensure they are implemented and followedEnsure effective cost control and that costs are allocated effectively and that the various sections stay within budgetMaintain section infrastructure to complement the Operational value chain from coal face to plantEffective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developedMeeting production targets with strict adherence to maintenance and production schedulesDevelop and maintain constructive working relationships with other stakeholders to complement the operational value chainThis role is in the Mining department at a Band 6 level and reports to the Section Manager.QualificationsB Tech/ BSC in Mining Engineering (BSc) (NQF Level7)Intermediate Management Developmental Programme or equivalentIn Possession of Mine Overseer or Mine Managers’ Certificate of CompetencyComputer literate: MS OfficeValid driver’s licenseFiery Mine Blasting Ticket/ Rock Breaking qualification for Fiery MinesExperienceAt least 5 years’ experience in an Underground Coal Mine environmentAt least 2 years' experience as an appointed Shift BossAt least 2 years’ acting experience as Mine OverseerAdditional InformationKnowledge of mine planning principles and processesKnowledge of Thermal Coal core value chain and Operational Codes of Practices and ProceduresWhat We OfferWhen you join Thungela, you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package.
