Based in Juneau, Alaska, this position oversees the processing of multi-entity payrolls using ADP Workforce Now, manages benefits administration including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans, and ensures adherence to all relevant federal and state regulations. The role acts as a subject matter expert, providing leadership, training, and support to internal teams and external partners. The manager works collaboratively with HR, Accounting, and subsidiary managers to streamline processes, improve systems, and enhance the overall employee experience. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of payroll regulations, benefits compliance, and organizational policies, committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and service excellence.QualificationsEducation: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits administration is essential, with preference given to candidates with multi-entity or multi-state experience. Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now is mandatory. Candidates should have direct experience managing employee benefit plans, working with brokers and carriers, and familiarity with Alaska Native Corporations or similar organizational structures is advantageous.Skills & Competencies: In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and benefits compliance is critical. The ideal candidate demonstrates high attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration across teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and ADP reporting tools, is required.ResponsibilitiesPayroll Administration: Manage and process payrolls across multiple entities in ADP Workforce Now, ensuring compliance with all applicable wage laws and regulations. Review and reconcile time and attendance records, wage adjustments, and supplemental pay items. Maintain accurate payroll records and generate necessary tax and payroll reports. Coordinate quarterly and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, audits, and tax filings. Collaborate with HR and Accounting to ensure data integrity and internal controls. Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency. Support recruitment and onboarding processes by coordinating offer letters and onboarding documentation to ensure consistent and compliant hiring practices.Benefits Administration: Oversee all employee benefits programs, ensuring accurate enrollment, updates, and terminations. Act as the primary liaison with benefit brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators. Lead open enrollment periods and conduct benefits education sessions for new hires and existing employees. Audit carrier invoices and reconcile with payroll data to ensure billing accuracy. Provide timely and professional support to employees with benefits inquiries, fostering a positive employee experience.Compliance & Reporting: Ensure organizational compliance with all relevant payroll, tax, and benefits regulations, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and DOL requirements. Prepare and submit required reports such as ACA 1095s, 401(k) census data, and audit documentation. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of employee and organizational data. Coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide accurate documentation and support compliance audits.Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with HR to align payroll and benefits programs with organizational policies and best practices. Train and support managers and employees on payroll deadlines and benefits processes. Participate in cross-functional initiatives, including system upgrades and process improvements, to enhance organizational efficiency.
