Job DescriptionThe City of Port Arthur is seeking dedicated individuals to join our law enforcement team. As a member of our police force, you will play a critical role in maintaining safety and order within the community. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to serve and protect the public, while collaborating with a team of skilled professionals.Key Responsibilities **Patrol Duties:** Regularly patrol designated areas to deter and detect criminal activity, enforce laws, and ensure public safety. Utilize both vehicle and foot patrols to monitor neighborhoods, commercial areas, and public spaces. **Emergency Response:** Respond promptly and effectively to calls for assistance, including accidents, emergencies, disturbances, and other incidents requiring police presence. Provide first aid or other immediate assistance as needed until further medical help arrives. **Law Enforcement:** Enforce local, state, and federal laws. Issue citations, warnings, or make arrests when necessary. Conduct thorough investigations of crimes, traffic accidents, and other incidents, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses and suspects. **Community Engagement:** Foster positive relationships with community members and organizations. Participate in community events and outreach programs to build trust and promote cooperation between the police force and the public. Address community concerns and provide information on crime prevention. **Reporting and Documentation:** Prepare clear and accurate reports regarding incidents, arrests, investigations, and other law enforcement activities. Maintain detailed records and ensure documentation is completed in a timely manner. **Court Appearances:** Testify in court when required, presenting evidence and offering factual accounts of incidents and investigations. **Training and Development:** Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills and stay updated on current laws, regulations, and law enforcement techniques. Collaborate with team members to conduct drills and simulations. **Ethical Conduct:** Adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior and professional conduct. Respect and uphold citizens' rights and ensure equitable enforcement of the law.Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent required; college degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred. Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age. Valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Successful completion of a state-certified police training academy. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and psychological evaluation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations with professionalism and composure. Physical fitness to meet the demands of police work, including the ability to pursue suspects on foot, lift heavy objects, and work long or irregular hours. Basic proficiency in computer skills and the ability to learn new technology and software applications.Work Environment The role involves working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Officers may be required to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to provide 24/7 coverage.
