Practice Development Lawyer - Technology

The successful applicant will be an integral part of our dynamic and market-leading Technology practice group and Knowledge and Practice Development team. The role will report directly to the Knowledge and Practice Development Partner.The success of our Technology practice is driven by the practical application of up-to-date technical legal knowledge. Your role will be crucial in maintaining that success. You will be given the freedom and flexibility to innovate and strategically develop the group's knowledge function in an open and supportive environment. Ideally, you will have an interest in the use of technology to improve the group's knowledge offering. You will have the benefit of working alongside a large group of Practice Development lawyers and the broader Practice Development team.The Technology Group is a team of dedicated intellectual property and technology specialists with a depth of expertise across all industry sectors. We provide our clients with innovative and commercial support, offering practical and business-oriented solutions.Recognised as Ireland's Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year (2013, 2014, & 2016) by the leading international IP publication Managing Intellectual Property, we consistently achieve the highest ranking from international publications and commentators.Role & Responsibilities:To work with the Knowledge and Practice Development partner and fee-earners on appropriate knowledge management initiatives as they arise, for example, the capture of tacit knowledge in significant Technology transactionsTo assist fee earners (and clients where appropriate) in respect of technical and/or practical legal issues raised by clients, and to assist in the development of position papers, toolkits and other legal know howTo take responsibility for the development and production of new precedents (to a standard that is partner sign-off level) and the maintenance generally of precedentsTo play a significant role in exploiting the business development opportunities presented by knowledgeTo focus on developing a strong client-facing knowledge lawyer role through seminars, publications and client training and supporting Knowledge Plus, our online client knowledge resourceTo play a proactive role in bringing knowledge BD ideas to the Technology partner group and to collaborate with the Technology partners in implementing these ideasTo capture and disseminate relevant legal knowledge so as to ensure that the collective expertise and knowledge of the group is understood and sharedTo develop appropriate knowledge tools for the Technology team that are aligned with and informed by the business needs of the team and its client baseTo play a significant role in aligning Technology knowledge with other departments, as appropriateTo participate in other knowledge management initiatives and projects, as appropriate and providing assistance to the knowledge partner and other knowledge lawyers regarding specific Know How or Knowledge Management initiativesTo provide input and participate internal and external training initiativesTo develop and promote the expertise of our Technology team in the market including presenting to, and engaging directly with clients and at industry events as appropriateRequirementsQualified solicitor/lawyer with ideally 4+ years of post-qualification within TechnologyStrong academic backgroundKeen interest in legal knowledge, learning and developmentCommercial focus and business acumenExcellent communication skills and a willingness to present at client seminars, conferences and workshopsIT literacy and an interest in leveraging technology to improve knowledge offeringAbility to think creatively and strategically and to drive innovation and changeAbility to establish credibility with, effectively engage with and influence diverse teams of senior individualsCollaborative team player with the ability to develop and work in a dynamic, intellectually rigorous environmentBenefitsA competitive remuneration packageAccess to the firm's marquee training and development programmes, delivered through the ALG School of Business and LawDiscretionary performance bonusPension and health insurance contribution, wellbeing contribution, life assurance, subsidised gym, restaurant and coffee shopHybrid working policyThe FirmA&L Goodbody (ALG) is a leading Irish law firm with five international offices in Dublin, Belfast, London, New York and San Francisco.
