Company: Mass General Brigham Location: BelmontOverview The 3rd Class Engineer is responsible for monitoring and participating in boiler plant operations. A licensed Engineer must safely monitor, maintain, and adjust Powerhouse equipment and related systems for efficient operation and to ensure a reliable energy source for fluctuating heating, cooling, and emergency power systems.Key Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Monitoring equipment at specified intervals and recording data in operation logs: Boilers, pumps, gauges, pressure, water tanks, and other regulated equipment as well as the related building automation software (BAS) to consistently provide a balanced and efficient operating environment. Opening and closing valves; starting, stopping, and/or adjusting equipment in response to changing weather conditions or energy requirements to ensure optimum efficiency. Water and electric meter readings Smokestack readings Fire pumps Read other meters and gauges at specified intervals to ensure equipment is operating normally.For all of the above, investigate unusual readings and check operating systems to detect faulty equipment. Correct their cause(s) when able and keep team informed of progress. All logs are subject to spot-checks to maintain accuracy.Equipment Maintenance Safely perform preventative and corrective maintenance to limit equipment failure and reduce equipment downtime. Help establish and update downtime schedules for equipment updates and overhauls. Emphasize accuracy and timeliness. Water Management: record metrics and inspect deionizing tank and pumps; as well as water softener tanks and filters. Monitor and log MWRA water treatment tanks Perform and log the results of bi-weekly chemical tests of water and steam systems. Adjust the chemical treatment to maintain proper chemical values as specified by the chemical treatment company representative. Troubleshoot any abnormal readings and correct identified malfunctioning equipment affecting the system.Promoting and supporting a safe working environment All work is to be performed in a safe manner using proper safety practices, such as goggles, gloves, and equipment lock-out tags. Maintain a tidy, safe, and clean working environment to minimize danger to self and others.Powerhouse housekeeping includes trash removal, as well as routinely removing oil, grease, dirt, and soot from all surfaces, monthly: sweeping and mopping assigned areas, quarterly or more often as needed: machinery wiped down, and proper storage of tools, parts, and suppliesClearly communicates deficiencies to team and supervisor. Must respond to after-hours calls regarding equipment, systems, and/or software in the Powerhouse within their scope of responsibility. Any/all responsibilities pursuant to Chapter 146 of Massachusetts General Law not specifically mentioned above. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook or Gmail. Ability to learn new software. Must use personal phone to complete portions of work assignments using hospital-provided software. May be required to carry an on-call pager.
