CIEE Alicante is currently seeking dynamic professionals to teach a Sustainable Toursim course in English to U.S. college students studying in Alicante, Spain. Sustainable Tourism (taught in English)January 28 – May 1445 hours, 2 days a week, 2 hour class sessionsCourse DescriptionStudents explore the development and management of tourism in a way that is environmentally, socially,culturally, and economically responsible. Using criteria established by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council,students define the global baseline standards and principles for sustainability and tourism, and discuss bestpractices in sustainable tourism management. They explore key goals of sustainable tourism, including economicdevelopment, poverty alleviation, sustainable management of natural and cultural resources, socialresponsibility, and rescuing and protecting cultural heritage. Students investigate cases where tourism hasimpacted the local community. Along the way, they make tangible suggestions for how best to manage tourismfor optimizing economic and social gains while assuring the lasting integrity of the environment, infrastructure,and cultural heritage that supports it.Selection Criteria: Candidates must hold a relevant Master’s degree at minimum and be able to teach at college level in English. Teaching experience with students from U.S. colleges and universities is valued.
