OverviewAgency SummaryThe purpose and mission of the Indianapolis Fire Department is to provide emergency and fire protection services for the City of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Firefighters are also trained as paramedics, emergency medical technicians, extrication specialists, top water and rescue divers, confined space, trench rescue and as hazardous materials technicians to help save lives, protect property, and the environment. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County.Job SummaryThe position is responsible for the delivery and pick up of personal protective equipment, station wear, and other IFD quartermaster related items. Incumbent in this position will support the members of the IFD with cleaning, repairs, and replacement of all personal protective equipment. Incumbent in this position operates under the knowledge and adherence of agency standard operating policies and procedures. Minimum independent judgment is utilized. We value diversity in perspectives and experiences among colleagues and the residents of this city of whom we serve.Position Responsibilities Deliver and pick-up items to and from various IFD locations, including materials, supplies, equipment, and other items Sort, arrange, and prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for scheduled daily deliveries Assist with cleaning, inspecting, and preparing personal protective equipment sent in for service and maintaining work areas Works with the Quartermaster Asset Manager and Product Specialist in the repair of personal protective equipment Maintains entry and disposition changes associated with delivery notification and gear cleaning processes within the Quartermaster delivery system program Job Title Helps to ensure and maintain accountability and record keeping of all personal protective equipment cleaned and serviced Collects and launders training gear and assists in managing back stock inventory Assists with general organization of daily tasks for quick visual inventory of supplies Performs daily safety inspections and driver-level maintenance of vehicles including vehicle cleanliness Attend outside training to learn personal protective equipment repair aspects Must maintain strict confidentiality at all timesThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to timeQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to organize and plan for laundering and inspection of Personal Protective Equipment and the organization and inventory of all Personal Protective Equipment. willing to learn how to repair fire gear and complete required training. Basic knowledge of Indianapolis streets and highway systems. Having a working knowledge of IFD fire station locations and firefighter personal protective equipment would be beneficial. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Must demonstrate effective organizational and decision-making skills without direct supervision.Preferred Job Requirements And QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years’ experience in a related field. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to organize and plan for laundering and inspection of Personal Protective Equipment and the organization and inventory of all Personal Protective Equipment. willing to learn how to repair fire gear and complete required training. Basic knowledge of Indianapolis streets and highway systems. Having a working knowledge of IFD fire station locations and firefighter personal protective equipment would be beneficial. Must demonstrate effective organizational and decision-making skills without direct supervision.Independent JudgmentWorking ConditionsEssential functions are regularly performed in an office or warehouse environment with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions.Physical Conditions Sitting at a desk the majority of the time with some visiting of buildings and sites Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of 50 pounds Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation Tasks require the ability to perceive and hear sounds and see visual cues or signals Tasks require the ability to communicate orally
