About Us:The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. You can review the 2025-2026 Benefits Guide or visit the City of Glendale's Benefits page for more information.  Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:Regular status positions offerThe City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year. Vacation leave accrues at: 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year) Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service. Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year). Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day. RetirementThis position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).The current contribution rate is 12%. It is one of the best places to work, to grow your career, skills, and advance your future.Plan, coordinate, and implement activities for youth/adult sports and facility/field rentals for city wide programs and activities.Trains, coordinates, evaluates, supervises and handles payroll for assigned staff.Plans, coordinates, and implements activities for recreation programs and special events; evaluates outcomes.  Maintains and monitors contracts for programs, events, services and facility useMay coordinate permitting process for events and programs taking place in Glendale.Participates in establishing goals and objectives for assigned program areas.Participates in planning the department budget; provides estimates; monitors the budget for program areas of responsibility.Develops rules for games, sports, events, programs; prepares accident and statistical reports. Assists in developing public information materials needed for programs and events including programs and site maps.Meets with citizen groups to discuss needs; coordinates program development.Performs on-site program inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and safety policies and procedures.Calculates and recommends fees for programs; maintains budget and financial records for program areas.Investigates and resolves citizen complaints or problems.Provides front-line customer service, education, and information to the public regarding municipal and state codes, regulations, and permitting procedures.Prepares reports and statistical analysis on recreation and special event activities in area of responsibility.Interprets and enforces department policies, procedures, and regulations.Monitors use, care, and maintenance of equipment.Coordinates registration procedures for programs; collects and records registration forms and fees.Trains and monitors work of assigned staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, tourism management, business, marketing or a related field and two years' experience in professional level recreation or special events work, including six months of supervisory experience.Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
