At EML, we don't subscribe to ivory tower compliance – the organisation seeks a hands-on leader who will engage across the organisation and understand the practical impacts and outcomes of their work.The Risk & Compliance team at EML is divided into two overarching teams:Country Risk & Compliance – hold broad responsibilities within their countries/regions and where applicable hold designated titles (such as SMF or PCF designations). They are supported in the execution of their functions and activities by a global team of specialists but maintain ultimate decision-making authority and control via oversight of all parts of programmes and activities that impact on their country/region.Global Risk & Compliance – narrowly focussed specific functions or areas, providing deep subject matter expertise, framework design and execution support and standardisation across the group in the areas of Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management and Strategy, Testing and Assurance, Regulatory Engagement and Reporting, and Privacy and Consumer Protection. The Regulatory Compliance Senior Specialist – Assurance and Testing is a global specialist role, operating and coordinating across multiple regulatory regimes.The role and what you'll doWe’re looking for a seasoned professional based in Bulgaria to conduct independent reviews of control design, operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance and gap analysis as part of our Compliance Testing and Assurance programme. The role spans all regulatory domains, helping ensure we meet our compliance obligations while supporting broader business goals.Compliance Assurance Programme Support and ExecutionSupport the delivery of testing and assurance activities across multiple regulatory domains and jurisdictions.Contribute to the design, refinement, and continuous improvement of testing frameworks and methodologies.Support alignment of testing activities with regulatory requirements and business objectives.Stay updated on new or revised laws and regulations.Participate in the planning and execution of regulatory compliance testing across business units, regions, and functional areas.Interpret laws and map regulatory requirements to internal controls.Apply appropriate testing approaches based on regulatory area and risk level. Assist in testing efforts related to new regulations and the implementation of regulatory changes.Ensure documentation reflects current regulatory expectations.Assist in identifying opportunities for automation and process improvements.Conduct independent testing of compliance controls to assess effectiveness. Analysis and ReportingCompile and analyse testing results to identify trends and areas for improvement. Support root cause analysis of control deficiencies and compliance issues. Contribute to the preparation of reports for senior stakeholders, summarizing key findings. Assist in tracking and reporting compliance assurance metrics.Stakeholder Engagement Work with colleagues across the three lines of defence to ensure effective testing delivery.Regulatory Examination SupportAssist in preparing documentation and evidence for regulatory examinations. Support planning and coordination of responses to supervisory requests. Help integrate lessons learned from regulatory reviews into testing practices.What you'll bringRegulatory Testing Exposure: Hands-on experience supporting or conducting regulatory compliance testing reviews. Ability to identify regulatory and process gaps. Develop actionable improvement recommendations.Work Environment: Experience working in global or matrixed organisations, with exposure to cross-functional collaboration across time zones and cultures. Experience in payments or fintech environments is a plus.Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of relevant laws and regulations (EU, UK, APAC, US). Ability to interpret and apply common regulatory principles and testing methodologies. Understanding of risk assessment frameworks and compliance testing best practices. Professional certifications (e.g., ICA or equivalent) and/or legal qualifications are advantageous.Technical Skills: Exposure to compliance testing tools, automation platforms, and assurance technologies. Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and tools.Team Collaboration: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working in a small team environment, managing multiple priorities, and supporting junior colleagues.
