Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator and research team in executing research activities, managing laboratory operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and institutional standards. The role involves processing clinical samples, supporting experimental workflows, maintaining laboratory resources, and coordinating administrative and operational matters essential for the smooth running of the research lab. Clinical Sample Handling and ProcessingPerform plasma extraction, PBMC isolation, and DNA extraction from patient-derived samples.Coordinate with vendors, clinical research coordinators, and collaborators on sample transfer, processing, and analysis.Maintain accurate sample tracking, labelling, and documentation in accordance with established systems and protocols.Ensure adherence to biosafety, ethical, and BSL2 requirements when handling human clinical materials. Laboratory Operations and ProcurementMaintain the cleanliness, organisation, and day-to-day functioning of laboratory spaces.Support procurement activities by sourcing, purchasing, and replenishing laboratory consumables.Monitor inventory, stock levels, and usage of lab supplies.Conduct routine checks on laboratory equipment and report maintenance requirements.Update procurement and expenditure records in internal systems.Liaise with vendors, finance teams, and researchers on purchasing activities and grant-related matters. Safety Compliance (Safety Support Role)Support laboratory safety practices in alignment with NUS and CSI safety policies.Assist in conducting and documenting laboratory safety inspections and follow-up actions.Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety checklists, and safety documentation.Liaise with institutional safety officers on audit matters, training requirements, and safety reports.Assist in providing safety training and onboarding for new laboratory members. Research and Administrative SupportProvide support to researchers in sample analysis, experimental setup, and routine laboratory workflows.Coordinate with internal departments on laboratory operational and administrative matters.Maintain accurate and updated records related to inventory, procurement, safety audits, and sample processing.QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.Practical experience in PBMC isolation, plasma extraction, DNA extraction, or similar laboratory workflows.Strong understanding of laboratory safety, BSL2 procedures, and risk assessment practices.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accurate data entry.Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and reliability in completing routine tasks.Ability to work independently while engaging effectively with multiple stakeholders.
