Your jobAs a Research Assistant and Analyst in the Animal Breeding and Genomics department at Wageningen Livestock Research, you will support researchers in the laboratory. By applying various lab techniques, you will contribute to the development of (new) methods for processing, analysing, and preserving different types of samples.You will work on a range of projects, including the cryopreservation of semen, embryos, oocytes, and ovarian tissue from various livestock species and aquatic animals. In addition, you will contribute to cell culture research and the processing of microbiome samples. You will also be involved in the execution, analysis, and interpretation of DNA-related laboratory work.Your Tasks And Responsibilities As An Analyst IncludeCollecting samples from various livestock speciesApplying molecular genetic techniques such as DNA isolation, PCR, and sequencingCryopreservation of genetic material (such as semen, oocytes, and embryonic cells)Recording and managing samples, data, and protocols within quality systemsReporting results to researchers and contributing to scientific projectsYour teamYou will collaborate with colleagues within the Animal Breeding and Genomics (ABG) department. The department consists of around 50 dedicated project leaders, researchers, and analysts. We are renowned for our expertise in animal breeding, biological understanding of traits in cattle, pigs, poultry, and fish, as well as in sensor technology and big data analysis.Your qualitiesYou have practical skills in handling animals and collecting samples. You are well organised, ensure proper documentation of your work, and enjoy contributing to the success of a larger team.You Also HaveA completed laboratory education at MBO+/HBO level (equivalent to upper secondary vocational or bachelor level)Some experience with molecular biological techniques, cryopreservation and/or general laboratory workAffinity with the livestock and animal husbandry sectorsGood command of the Dutch languageWillingness to travel within the Netherlands and possession of a Category B driving licenceAs our international working environment increasingly operates in English, this position requires English language proficiency at level C2. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
