Joining now is a long-term investment in yourself—you’ll grow alongside the company, directly shaping its science and trajectory.About the RoleWe are seeking a hands-on Research Associate to support R&D efforts at our Jacobus laboratory. In this role, you will work directly with company leadership to advance the development and screening of novel therapeutic constructs. Driven by milestones and impact, this role thrives in a startup environment where results outweigh routine — ideal for someone excited to contribute to foundational experimental work within a fast-moving biotech company.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute in-vitro assays for screening therapeutic plasmid candidates.Perform routine mammalian cell culture, plasmid transfections, and cell-based functional assays.Run apoptosis-based readouts (e.g., caspase assays, Annexin-V staining, TUNEL assays).Conduct molecular cloning workflows: PCR, gel electrophoresis, bacterial culture, plasmid prep.Prepare and stain biological samples for flow cytometry and plate-based assays.Independently operate flow cytometry analyzers.Execute gene and protein expression assays (e.g., qPCR, ELISA, Western blot).Maintain accurate, well-organized experimental records using electronic notebooks.Analyze data, troubleshoot experimental challenges, and present findings to the team.Contribute to assay optimization, experimental design, and project planning.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBS or MS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.BS with 3+ or MS with 1–2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in biotech, biopharma, or academia.Technical SkillsStrong working knowledge of mammalian cell culture and sterile technique (required).Experience with flow cytometry (required).Experience with apoptosis assays (preferred).Familiarity with protein and nucleic acid workflows (e.g., Western blot, ELISA, qPCR, etc.) (required).Molecular cloning and plasmid handling experience (required).Experience with viral transduction is a plus.Additional Skills & TraitsDetail-oriented with strong data documentation and organizational habits.Ability to troubleshoot independently and adapt to evolving project needs.Collaborative team mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency with scientific software: Prism, ImageJ, Excel, PowerPoint, Benchling (or equivalent).Driven by milestones and impact; thrives in a startup environment where results outweigh routine.CompensationSalary: $50,000–$60,000 annualized, depending on experience and scope.Equity: Eligible for vesting upon extension.Structure: Full-time, salaried (exempt) position — initial 3-month funded term with potential for renewal and equity participation as the company scales.Why Join UsWork directly with founders in a high-impact, entrepreneurial biotech startup.Shape the foundation of a next-generation therapeutic platform.Accelerate your growth through hands-on scientific ownership and startup exposure.Play a central role in achieving key R&D milestones that determine the company’s next phase.Equal OpportunityGenetic Circuit Therapeutics provides equal consideration for all qualified applicants.
