Reporting To The ATL Director, You WillThe TeamThe Academy of Teaching & Learningâs (ATL) mission is to help students achieve a solid foundation in the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to succeed in the medical sciences program. We are designed to provide students with academic coaching to help them develop an academic action plan and cultivate effective study strategies including time management, test taking skills and content review techniques to increase their chances of achieving their target exam scores. ATL also supports students with improving their communication including occupational English skills.
Primary ResponsibilitiesThe ideal applicant will be able to engage, mentor, and assist in coaching a diverse student body, as well as work closely and cohesively in a team under the instruction and supervision of the ATL faculty and Director of ATL. To this aim, they must possess excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. It is also important the Teaching Assistant be self-directed and able to work effectively as a member of a team. Strong candidates for this role should be motivated by working on robust, complex, ever-evolving initiatives that are student driven.
Requirements/SkillsAssist in the instruction of ACE courses especially with small group learningAcademic support will consist of tutoring sessions, advising on recommended study strategies and test taking skills, content review using multiple choice questions, as well as monitoring the success of students and providing check-insServe as mentors to a cohort of students by maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidanceTrack engagement during concept clarification bootcamp sessionsParticipate in ATL meetingsAttend training sessions to become competent in tutoring and assessment skillsWork independently and collaboratively with a team by developing and cultivating relationships and networks to achieve desired resultsCreate student academic resources with the senior faculty to enhance the student experience, such as presentations, videos, and selection of MCQ questions setsComplete other duties as assigned by ACE course directors such as grading of ACE assignmentsComplies with all policies and standardsPreferred ExperienceTeaching and/or tutoring experience in academic settingMentoring or advising experience in academic settingLeadership experience in student co-curricular activitiesProficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office (specifically, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)Approach to WorkDeep commitment to the Academy of Teaching & Learningâs (ATL) mission and our commitment to an exceptional student experienceExhibits integrity and professionalism while working on island and remotelyComfortable operating in environments of changeThrives on feedback and willing to continually learn, improve, and help others growExceptionally skilled at developing and cultivating deep relationships and networks to achieve resultsWork DemandsAll Teaching Assistants are expected to start June 1, 2023Applicants must be able to work in their role as TAs until May 31, 2024Expected to work Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM ASTExpected to work 40 hours a week on averageAbility and willingness to work and collaborate with other RUSM teams, like Student Affairs and Student ServicesAbility and willingness to tutor in evenings or weekends if necessaryApplicants will be permitted to attend all residency interviews upon approval from director of ATLQualificationsMust be a recent graduate of Ross University School of MedicineMust have an M.
