We are currently seeking a Terminal Manager in Thunder Bay, ON to join our team.The Terminal Manager is a hands on positions that will oversee all the day to day activities of terminal. he Terminal Manager is responsible for managing all terminal activities including freight delivery, equipment utilization and maintenance, employee scheduling, dispatch, sales and customer service. Leading and managing the terminal operations will come from a hands-on approach with the terminal team. The Terminal Manager will report to the North Eastern Ontario Manager.SummaryThe Terminal Manager is a hands on position that will oversee all the day to day activities of terminal. The Terminal Manager is responsible for managing all terminal activities including freight delivery, equipment utilization and maintenance, employee scheduling, dispatch, sales and customer service.Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage terminal employees in areas including safety, scheduling, coaching and assessmentOutline, coordinate, and monitor service schedules and levelsCoordinate freight movement, tracing, claims and dispatch in the terminal areaMonitor freight movement to ensure maximum load factors and service levels to minimize claimsParticipate in the hiring and training of employees’Schedule and monitor the use of equipment to maximize utilizationProvide ongoing training to supervisorsMaintain staff levels that insure an acceptable level of productivity and performanceWork with all employees to ensure smooth operations under all conditionsAssist with terminal operational activitiesOversee reporting and record keeping on productivity, utilization and service levelsMinimize severity or frequency of accidents of contractors and employees’ through risk identification processReview sales activities and customer contactsClaim inspections and customers as requiredDirects activities of supervisors; inspecting completed tasksDevelop and execute training plans for employeesEnsure housekeeping, productivity, and quality of work standards are maintainedAchieve terminal, as well as personal goalsManage inventory of tools and supplies to reduce risk, loss and damagePractices Safe work procedures and ensures team practices safe workAssists as needed in terminal functions that support operations goals and objectivesAll Management personnel, including supervisors are also held accountable in these critical areas as appropriate:Safety & Health: Supports all Safety & Health initiatives for the safety of all drivers, customers and other terminal employees by following all safety policies and procedures including the incident reporting system.Service: Role models the behavior necessary for overall satisfaction and support of positive relationships with employees and customers. Deals with complaints or inquires in a timely professional way that supports the mission, values and good will of Gardewine.Organizational/Job Knowledge: Possesses current knowledge to successfully perform the job; may be regarded as an expert in the technical/function area and uses other resources when appropriate. Knows the business and understands the relevant issues, task, responsibility or relationship of role to the organization.Organizational Strategy: Manages to profitability and makes decisions that enhance the organization’s financial status. Defines the standards and emphasizes the need to deliver quality services and products. Uses time productively.Supervisory Responsibilities Is responsible for leading, managing and supervising the terminal team.QualificationsExperience working in a large commercial/industrial facility leading a team. Ideally, you have post-secondary education and a minimum of three years’ experience in general freight operations. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure and manage critical and unplanned requirements. Strong interpersonal skills to foster and build working relationships with business unit leaders in addition to vendors, contractors, and suppliers. Competent ability and capacity to get the job done through a hands on approach. Experience using all Microsoft Office programs. Working knowledge of WHMIS and the Health & Safety Act.Terminal Managers must have a Class 1/AZ license or willing to obtain.Physical RequirementsFor this position you will be required to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time. The operation of power equipment on a regular daily basis. Lift up and move up to 50 pounds and adjust body position to maneuver. Need a good sense of balance with hand and foot coordination with ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights. Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season.
