“And we do daily deposits for all three stores through there,” he noted. “Honestly, it’s very frustrating when you’re trying to maintain rural small businesses and get change and do all these things.

“It makes things almost next to impossible,” he added.

Conway has seen what happens when a bank closes in a community and there will be similar effects in Eganville.

“In Beachburg, we lost the Scotia Bank and because of that, you can see it having a long-term drastic impact on the community. And then people start driving elsewhere.

“With the Beer Store gone now too, you kind of start asking a lot of questions about what’s going on,” he continued.

He said people will either have to switch to Northern Credit Union (in Eganville) should they want to keep their banking in town, or choose Renfrew or Pembroke as the closest BMO location. There is also the CIBC in Killaloe and the Scotia Bank in Cobden, but how long will they be around, he asked?
