Farmers protest RRR land acquisition, demand fair compensation and alignment change

Hyderabad: Farmers and landowners protesting the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment staged a demonstration at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) office on Monday, demanding fair compensation under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 and a change in the route. Organised under the aegis of the CPI (M) state unit, the protest saw CPI (M) State Secretary John Wesley accuse the State government of attempting to acquire land forcibly. He alleged police personnel were being deployed to intimidate farmers, and fencing work was under way across several survey numbers. “If the Congress government acquires lands forcibly, then we will lay siege to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s house,” he warned in a statement. John Wesley said the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 requires compensation of four times the market value. He claimed market rates ranged from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore per acre, whereas the government was offering between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh per acre. The CPI (M) leader also charged that the RRR alignment was being altered to protect the holdings of industrialists, elected representatives and real estate developers, while ensuring small and marginal farmers lose their land. He warned that if the Congress government did not change course, farmers would teach it a “befitting lesson” in the local bodies’ elections.

Govt order on BC reservation: One more petition filed in Telangana High Court

By Legal Correspondent Hyderabad: Another petition has been filed in the Telangana High Court challenging the State government’s decision to provide 42 percent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections through G.O. No. 9. The petition was filed by advocates C Shanthappa and S Lakshmaiah of Dharur village in Vikarabad district. The petitioners contended that granting 42 percent reservation to BCs as a single block was invalid under the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, which mandates category-wise allocation for BC groups A, B, C and D. They argued that issuing the G.O. without such division was arbitrary and unconstitutional. The petitioners pointed out that the Anantharaman Commission had classified BCs into four groups, and failing to distribute reservation accordingly would benefit only the dominant BC castes such as Munnur Kapu, Mudiraj, Yadava and Gowda, while depriving the most backward and economically weaker castes. They urged the Court to direct the Government to apportion BC reservations in local bodies category-wise as per Section 9(4) of the Panchayat Raj Act and to amend the G.O. accordingly before conducting elections. The matter is likely to be heard on October 8 along with previously filed petitions by B Madhav Reddy and others, which also challenge the same government order. Meanwhile, several implead petitions have been filed in support of the 42 percent BC reservation. MLC Teenmar Mallanna, Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao, Mettu Saikumar, Lakshmana Yadav, BC Intellectuals Forum President T Chiranjeevulu and others have approached the Court defending the G.O. They argued that the 50 percent ceiling on total reservations applies only to education and employment, not to political representation. They also pointed out that the limit was already crossed in the case of EWS reservations provided by the Central Government. The petitioners maintained that the present BC reservations comply with Supreme Court guidelines. All these petitions are expected to come up for hearing before the High Court on October 8.

Officials gearing up for cotton procurement in erstwhile Khammam

Khammam: District administrations in Khammam and Kothagudem have been gearing up for cotton procurement in the current season. According to agriculture officials, cotton was cultivated in 2.25 lakh acres in Khammam and about 27.07 lakh quintals yield is expected. It is proposed to procure the produce at five Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) centres and nine ginning mills. Agricultural Marketing Regional Deputy Director Padmavati said that in the wake of the falling price of cotton in the open market, action has been taken to purchase through CCI by paying the minimum support price. The support price for quality cotton with eight per cent moisture is Rs 8110 per quintal. If the moisture percentage decreases, the support price will decrease, and agricultural officials should create awareness among farmers about this, she said. Padmavati said cotton farmers could book a slot from home using the Kapas Kisan app. For cotton purchase-related services, farmers should contact toll-free number 18005995779 and WhatsApp number 8897281111. In Kothagudem, agriculture officials estimated that cotton crop was cultivated in 1.72 lakh acres and 26.56 lakh quintals yield is expected. Six CCI purchase centres have been set up in the district. Meanwhile, Telangana Rythu Sangham district secretary Bonthu Rambabu wanted the CCI to relax the rule of purchasing cotton only from farmers who registered their names in the Kapas Kisan app. The CCI decision might cause a loss for cotton farmers. He said that farmers in rural areas might not have access to smartphones or may not even know how to handle the app. Hence, the produce should be procured according to the records of farmers available with the agricultural department, he added.

Soybean farmers in Nirmal, Adilabad count losses as rains damage crop

Nirmal/Adilabad: Soybean farmers are facing heavy losses as incessant rains damaged the crop during the flowering and harvesting stages in both Nirmal and Adilabad districts. According to agriculture officials, soybean was cultivated in 1.05 lakh acres in Nirmal district and 50,000 acres in Adilabad. Nirmal has around 72,000 farmers growing the crop, while Adilabad accounts for about 40,000. The government has fixed a minimum support price of Rs 5,328 per quintal. Farmers said they were witnessing a steep fall in yield due to the damage caused by rains. Many reported investing over Rs 20,000 per acre, but their returns have dropped to about Rs 15,000 per acre. They urged the government to provide compensation for the crop loss caused by adverse weather. Manmohan Reddy, a farmer from Sarangapur mandal, said his yield dropped to 3 quintals per acre compared to the normal 5 quintals. “The crop was damaged during flowering and harvesting stages, which has badly affected us,” he said, adding that the crop was also hit by disease. Harvesting has been underway for the past few days, with farmers hiring harvesters to cut the crop. However, they are struggling to protect the produce transported to government procurement centres amid the continuing rains. Many have resorted to using polythene sheets to prevent the grains from getting soaked. Between June 1 and October 6, Nirmal district recorded 1,139 mm of rainfall compared to the normal 928 mm, an excess of 29. Adilabad recorded 1,375 mm against a normal 1,015 mm, reflecting an excess of 35.

The Joint Secretary of the Awards Division formally conveyed the news, commending her exceptional contribution to digital innovation and marketing strategy—a milestone that underscores her growing national influence. Academic Precision and Strategic Insight Neelima’s journey began with a solid academic foundation in engineering and management. This rare combination of disciplines allowed her to merge analytical problem-solving with financial and strategic thinking—laying the groundwork for a career that would bridge technology with communication. Professional Journey and Industry Evolution Her initial years were shaped by her tenure as Assistant Director of Media Relations at the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), where she managed large-scale communication campaigns and stakeholder coordination. Whether leading a nationwide campaign or consulting for emerging startups, Neelima maintains her hallmark discipline—understand the vision, analyze the metrics, and deliver with precision and purpose. The Road Ahead As the marketing world shifts toward AI-driven personalization and automation, Neelima continues to refine her strategies to ensure technology enhances human connection rather than replacing it. Her focus remains on developing frameworks that balance innovation with responsibility—empowering brands to grow without losing authenticity. Her story is not just about awards or milestones—it is about consistency, discipline, and the vision to turn digital communication into a purposeful craft.
