"These tears will cost Lalu Yadav very dearly": JDU's Neeraj Kumar questions RJD chief's silence after Rohini Acharya 'quits politics

Patna (Bihar) [India], November 16 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) leader Neeraj Kumar on Sunday questioned the silence of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi after their daughter Rohini Acharya announced her decision to quit politics and distance herself from the family, calling the development "a matter of concern."Speaking to ANI, Neeraj Kumar said Rohini Acharya, who had donated a kidney to her father, had been "treated unfairly". "Rohini Acharya is a daughter who saved her father's life, a daughter is Lakshmi. Insulting her has never been part of our tradition. Why are Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi silent on this?" he asked.Referring to past family disputes, the JDU leader said, "This is the second incident. It happened with Aishwarya first and now with Rohini. These tears will cost Lalu Yadav very dearly. He should not become the 'Dhritrashtra' of politics and must expose the one who is at fault. This is their internal matter, but it is certainly a matter of concern."Rohini Acharya, who has been a prominent supporter of her father during his health struggles and political campaigns on Saturday posted an emotional message on social media declaring that she would step away from politics and sever ties with the family. She announced her decision to "quit" politics and "disowned" her family taking all "blame" for the party's poor show in the polls."I'm quitting politics and I'm disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do and I'm taking all the blame," Acharya wrote on X.However, the Rashtriya Janata Dal has not issued a response to the controversy.Tejashwi Yadav and his close aide RJD MP Sanjay Yadav have "thrown" her out of the family, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini claimed yesterday.Tejashwi's sister alleged that she was "disgraced, abused, and even hit" when she questioned Sanjay Yadav about the party's defeat."I have no family. You can go and ask this to Sanjay Yadav, Rameez, and Tejashwi Yadav. They are the ones who threw me out of the family," Rohini Acharya told reporters in her first reaction after being asked about her 'shocking' announcement earlier in the day.Claiming that the party leadership don't want to take responsibility for the defeat in the Assembly election, Rohini Acharya said, "They don't want to take any responsibility. The whole nation is asking why the party failed like this. When you name Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are thrown out of the house, disgraced, abused, and even hit," she said.RJD suffered poorly in the Bihar assembly polls as the party got just 25 seats, despite contesting on more than 140 seats in the 243-member state assembly. The ruling NDA got 202 seats, a three-fourths majority in the 243-member House. (ANI)

Tamil Nadu govt moves SC against President withholding assent to NEET exemption bill

New Delhi [India], November 16 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Supreme Court challenging the President of India's decision to withhold assent to the Tamil Nadu Admission to Undergraduate Medical Degree Courses Bill, 2021.The Bill, which was unanimously passed by the Legislative Assembly, sought to exempt the state from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and restore admissions based on Class XII marks with a scientific system of normalisation. The Tamil Nadu government has said that the communication from the Governor's Secretariat on March 4, showed that assent to the Bill was withheld mechanically on the aid and advice of the Union government and without assigning any reasons. However, in contrast, the state government had furnished detailed replies to every objection raised by the by the Ministries of Health, Education and AYUSH, it said. The President's action has created a constitutional impasse, said the state government. It has termed the action patently "unconstitutional" and a serious violation of the constitutional framework that regulates Centre state relations in legislative matters. The petition further submitted that unexplained withholding of assent frustrates Article 201 and destroys the working of Article 254(2), which allows state laws on concurrent subjects to prevail within the state after receiving Presidential assent."If such withholding is upheld, the constitutional avenue available to states to enact laws that differ from Union legislation will become meaningless," it added. The suit further pointed out that there were reports of impersonation, irregularities and paper leaks in earlier years of NEET examination and a numerical score cannot measure qualitative attributes required in the medical profession. It has sought a declaration that the President's action in withholding assent to the 2021 Bill is "unconstitutional and liable to be set aside". Wexford man who assaulted a teenager and her mother receives an eleven month prison sentence

The court heard that John Paul McGuire (47) of 77, Talbot Green, Wexford, assaulted a woman at her home on May 9, 2020 during a party where a number of drinks had been consumed. The woman was said to have received a number of bruises. On July 8, 2022 McGuire assaulted the then 16-year-old daughter of the aforementioned woman. The accused was also charged with criminal damage to the woman’s apartment block and to her phone on dates unknown. The defendant was also charged with a public order and criminal damage offence at Sharkey’s takeaway in Rosslare Harbour, Wexford. The court heard that on December 16, 2020, when Covid regulations were still in place, the accused refused to wear a mask, was verbally abusive to staff members, and committed €100 worth of damage to the protective plastic screens in place. The accused also pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving and no insurance. Gardaí informed the court that McGuire has 19 previous convictions, most of which relate to public order matters. Edward King, solicitor for the accused, stated that his client is deeply remorseful and wishes to apologise for his behaviour. Mr King stated that McGuire has struggled with alcohol addiction most of his adult life and was highly intoxicated at the time of the offences. Mr King outlined that at the time McGuire was in an tumultuous relationship with the woman he assaulted at the time which he described as a “match made in hell”. He stated both parties where in the throes of addiction resulting in the two year period of their relationship being bad for both of them. Mr King described his client as “one of those people who cannot drink and should not drink". However, in the period since the offences were committed the accused has addressed his alcohol dependency. Mr King said that the offender who committed these crimes is very different than the man who was before the court on this day. Judge Cheatle stated that the assaults are too serious, especially the assault on the teenager, and therefore sentenced McGuire to 11 months imprisonment on that charge with a further 11 months to run consecutively suspended for 18 months on the assault charge of the girl’s mother. On the charge of drink driving a three year disqualification was imposed to run consecutively with a two year disqualification on the no insurance matter. Solar 21 investors see €122m of their cash wiped out in liquidation of group’s power station firm

A subsidiary of Solar 21 called GB-Bio – which owned the Tansterne Biomass plant near Hull in the UK – was placed into liquidation, owing a total of over £128m (€145m) to its creditors. At the time of its liquidation, the firm had total assets available to distribute to preferential creditors of just over £103,000, according to a statement of affairs prepared by the company in July. Money funnelled into GB-Bio from funds raised through loan notes marketed by its Solar 21 parent company and purchased by a large number of Irish retail investors – mainly from pensions and other savings – made up the vast bulk of what was owed to GB-Bio’s creditors. One industry source said the liquidation of GB-Bio likely marked “one of the biggest write-offs of Irish retail investor funds in a single project in recent years.” They added: “Over €120m poured into Tansterne over a decade – and absolutely nothing to show for it at the end, not even worth scrap metal it seems.” The plant never worked properly, despite regular assurances that it was nearly ready The statement of affairs for GB-Bio, now in liquidation, showed that one creditor, another Solar 21 subsidiary called Biomass 21 Renewable Energy Limited (B21RE), was owed £107.2m (€122m). Much of that money was raised by Solar 21 in Ireland between 2018 and 2020 in a fundraising push by the Rathcoole-based renewable energy investment vehicle, owned at the time by Achill Island brothers Michael and Andrew Bradley. The funds – invested in Solar 21 fundraising companies as part of its Project 1 funding drive, of which Tansterne was a central part – had been channelled to GB-Bio through B21RE, company records show. In 2019, Solar 21 had told investors in its Project 1 batch of investments (of which Tansterne was a central part): “What began as a 12-acre greenfield site is now a functioning biomass plant which will consume 150,000 tonnes of waste wood per year at full capacity. “Investors will be receiving their initial investment, plus a return of 31.5pc. Brokers have been liaising with their clients to plan the maturity process,” said the newsletter. The sale of the Tansterne plant – which the company had valued at over €100m just two years ago – had long been touted as a key part of the plan to raise the money to repay investors. But in reality, the plant never worked properly, despite regular assurances that its commissioning was close. The statement of affairs records that the biomass plant had a book value of £60m but would realise an estimated £1.6m, valuing it at little more than the metal used to build it. In June, it was sold by GB-Bio as part of a “pre-pack -administration” for a total sale price of €4m. That price included €3.3m of debt, meaning the sale did not provide any return to the scheme of arrangement that was sanctioned by the High Court in Dublin in November 2023 as a way to repay the hundreds of millions pumped into Solar 21 by its Irish investors.

Business News | India's Retail Market Set for $1 Trillion Leap by 2030: Fireside Ventures

New Delhi [India], November 16 (ANI): India's consumption story is entering a transformative decade, with the retail market on track to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030, driven by rising disposable incomes, rapid digital adoption and a widening aspirational class, according to a recent report by venture capital firm, Fireside Ventures. The venture capital firm says the shift is not merely about scale but about the structural rewiring of how India shops. Fireside notes that India's retail channels are undergoing their most dramatic reconfiguration yet. General trade, which accounted for more than nine-tenths of the market in 2014, is expected to shrink to about 70 per cent by 2030 as modern trade, e-commerce, quick commerce and direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands gain ground. D2C platforms and quick commerce alone could command up to 5 per cent of the market within the decade. As consumers adopt new formats and digital-first habits, branded retail is projected to double in size and approach USD 730 billion--nearly half of the country's total retail market. Fireside highlights that digital-native, new-age brands are expanding two to three times faster than traditional players, riding on data-led product innovation, agile distribution, and sharper customer engagement. The firm's analysis maps a vast landscape of emerging consumer cohorts. In its report, highlighting the opportunity in the Indian consumer market to the investors, the VC firm added, "Map your audiences, and you'll see the opportunity take the shape of many substantial markets, whether India I, the 15 per cent population driving 35 per cent of retail, and 60 per cent of branded purchases; or Bharat, the larger, fast-digitising 85 per cent of the country, quick to adopt retail, and hungry for new brands and experiences. The report added that by 2030, India is expected to host 1.1 billion internet users and more than 400 million online shoppers, creating what Fireside calls the flattest consumption opportunity the country has ever seen. Fireside Ventures believes the next hundred iconic consumer brands will emerge from founders who are rewriting the rules--building niche, culturally rooted, digitally fluent labels that speak to a new, experimental and proudly regional Indian consumer. World News | US Confirms Successful Stockpile Flight Tests of B61-12 Nuclear Gravity Bomb

Washington DC [US], November 16 (ANI): The United States has successfully concluded a series of critical stockpile flight tests of its B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb carried by the stealth F-35A fighter jet, the US Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratories stated on Thursday. As per the reports released by the lab, the test was conducted from August 19 to August 21 at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada with support from Hill Air Force Base in Utah. Also Read | Who Is Ira Bindra? All About Reliance Industries’ Human Resources Chief Named Among World’s Top CHROs. The tests saw inert units of the B61-12 successfully released from the F-35A aircraft, confirming the end-to-end performance of the aircraft, aircrew, and weapon under operational conditions. The US National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories, described the trials as the only B61-12 stockpile flight tests using joint test assemblies on the F-35 platform this year. Also Read | Boat Capsize in Libya: 4 Die After 2 Boats Carrying Migrants Overturn off Al Khums Coast. These tests represent a critical step in evaluating the operational readiness of the weapon and its delivery platform. The B61-12, part of the US nuclear arsenal since its development, recently underwent a multiyear life extension programme completed by NNSA in late 2024, extending its service life by at least 20 years. The successful tests validate the bomb's compatibility with the F-35, an advanced stealth fighter, and reaffirm its reliability for future nuclear missions. The life extension programme addresses all known age-related concerns found within the nation's stockpile of B61 weapons, upgrades encryption algorithms, modernises the safety and use-control features of the weapon and supports compatibility with future aircraft designs, as per Sandia National Laboratories. The refurbished B61-12's full-scale production started in May, with completion expected in 2026. "These B61-12 F-35A stockpile flight tests and captive carry flight test were the capstone accomplishment of a tremendous amount of planning and effort by those who were involved across not only Sandia, but many other agencies," said Sandia's Jeffrey Boyd, surveillance lead for the B61-12 and B61-13. "In addition, these B61-12 stockpile flight tests represent the completion of the most B61-12 flight testing surveillance scope in a year to date and the most in a given year for the foreseeable future," he added. Beyond the successful flight tests, the series included the first-ever thermal preconditioning of a joint test assembly for carriage on the F-35. This preconditioning process, which involved testing the bomb under extreme conditions before release, ensured that the B61-12 met environmental standards required for real-world deployment. An advancement to the B61 nuclear gravity bomb, deployed from the US Air Force and North Atlantic Treaty Organization bases since 1968, the B61-12 is a modification of the B61 and has an extended service life of at least 20 years. During the second day of the series opener on Saturday, Gill was taken from the stadium to a private hospital for scans. Gill walked out to bat after Washington Sundar's dismissal and just played three deliveries before going off the field. Pant led the side as the spin troika put the hosts in a commanding position. Ravindra Jadeja scalped four, Kuldeep Yadav picked two and Axar Patel returned with one to leave the Proteas threadbare at 93/7 with a 63-run lead. Earlier on day one, Proteas batted first after winning the toss, and a fifer from Jasprit Bumrah reduced Proteas to just 159, despite a half-century stand from Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton for the first wicket. However, India did not do well either, as a four-fer from Simon Harmer and three wickets from pacer Marco Jansen, restricted them to 189/9, giving them a slender 30-run lead. New Delhi [India], November 16 (ANI): In a major development in the Red Fort car blast case, Delhi Police sources on Sunday confirmed that three cartridges recovered from the site, two live and one empty, were of 9mm calibre, a firearm type prohibited for civilian possession. A senior official said that despite the cartridge recovery, no pistol or any of its parts were found at the scene. Also Read | Delhi Car Blast Probe: 3 Cartridges of 9mm Recovered From Explosion Site Near Red Fort; No Weapon Found. "These cartridges are usually only possessed by the armed forces or those with special permission," police said. According to sources, no pistol or any part of it was found at the scene...meaning the cartridges were found, but the weapon used to fire them has not yet been found. Also Read | Tamil Nadu SIR: TVK To Hold Statewide Protest in TN Today Against Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls. The official said that they are now trying to determine how these cartridges came to be there, whether the suspect possessed them. The discovery of the 9mm cartridges adds a new dimension to the ongoing investigation, as officials probe the source of the ammunition and whether it was linked to any terror or criminal network. Security agencies examined CCTV footage and gathered forensic evidence from the blast site. On November 10, the blast near the Red Fort complex in the national capital killed 12 people and injured several others. A day earlier, Delhi Police registered a fresh FIR under sections of criminal conspiracy in the Red Fort blast investigation, officials said. The new FIR comes days after the car blast near the historic Red Fort area on November 10 killed 12 people. Meanwhile, security around the Red Fort has been heightened in the wake of the blast, with authorities maintaining a strict vigil over entry points and surrounding areas. On Friday, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had cancelled the registration of four doctors from Jammu and Kashmir - Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Muzamil Shakeel and Dr Shaheen Saeed - in the Indian Medical Register/National Medical Register with immediate effect, sources told ANI. All State Medical Councils have been informed about the decision. An order has been issued to all medical councils regarding the removal of the above four doctors, effective November 14, 2025. Delhi police have already arrested Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Muzamil Shakeel and Dr Shaheen Saeed in connection with the Delhi blast case, as they had an alleged link to past terror cases. Investigation agencies on Thursday informed that around eight suspects were allegedly preparing to execute coordinated explosions at four locations, with each pair assigned to a specific target city. Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused groups had intended to move in pairs, each carrying multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for simultaneous attacks. Delhi Police confirmed that the man who carried out the car blast near Red Fort was Dr Umar Un Nabi, after forensic DNA testing matched his biological sample with that of his mother. However, Al-Falah University has distanced itself from Dr Umar and Dr Muzammil, stating that the University has no connection with the accused beyond their official capacities, and that no questionable chemical or material is being used or stored on the University premises. Essential DNA, explosive, and other samples have been collected from the site and sent for forensic examination. The investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency. Meanwhile, an accidental explosion inside the Nowgam Police Station late Friday night left nine personnel dead and 32 others injured and caused extensive damage to the nearby building. Trump urges Thailand to recommit to ceasefire with Cambodia, threatens to halt trade talks

US President Donald Trump put pressure on Thailand to recommit to the ceasefire deal with Cambodia as tensions between the two nations escalate. Trump warned that trade talks with Thailand could be halted as Washington seeks to prevent the Trump-brokered truce agreement from falling apart. The warning came just days after Thailand said that it was suspending the ceasefire deal, accusing Cambodia of laying fresh landmines along the border. The Thai authorities went on to claim that these landmines wounded a Thai soldier on patrol, who lost a foot in the explosion. Since then, one person has been killed and several others injured as a gunfight went along the Thai-Cambodia frontier. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD On Saturday, Thai foreign ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura told journalists that they had received a letter from the Office of the US Trade Representative announcing the suspension of trade deal talks on Friday night. He quoted the letter as saying trade negotiations dealing with 19 per cent US tariffs on Thai goods could only resume once Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out the joint ceasefire declaration. While speaking to the reporters on Air Force One as he flew to Florida on Friday, Trump suggested that he had used “threat of tariffs” in calls with the Southeast Asian leaders. “I stopped a war just today through the use of tariffs, the threat of tariffs,” Trump said, adding, “they’re doing great. I think they’re gonna be fine. After the call between the two leaders, Thai foreign ministry spokesperson Nikorndej said Prime Minister Anutin explained the matter to Trump on their call, “who expressed understanding regarding the issue”. It is pertinent to note that it was Trump who oversaw the signing of a ceasefire agreement, held in Malaysia this October. 'Traitor': Donald Trump rescinds support for Marjorie Taylor Greene, marking major political break-up

President Donald Trump announced he is officially rescinding his endorsement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and attacked her in personal terms, while the congresswoman countered that Trump was trying to make an example of her to prevent the release of files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The president's post marked a major political breakup weeks in the making – a dramatic intensification of a simmering back-and-forth between the two former allies, who grew apart as Greene criticised Trump on a number of fronts. It spilled into a messy exchange of blows as the controversy around Epstein again took centre stage in Washington. He added: "She has told many people that she is upset that I don't return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can't take a ranting Lunatic's call every day." Greene has publicly warned in recent weeks that Trump has been too focused on foreign policy and is not doing enough to sell his domestic agenda at home – taking her message to outlets like CNN and ABC's The View. Greene, who arrived in Congress in 2021, has until recently been an ardent and outspoken Trump supporter. The Georgia Republican responded to Trump in a social media post, writing, "Of course he's coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files." She added on Saturday that she is facing threats against her, which she said Trump had helped fuel. Trump defended his efforts to engage with foreign leaders and travel abroad amid Greene's criticism, suggesting that his relationships on the world stage have benefited her district and expressing openness to endorsing a potential primary challenger. "Marjorie Taylor Greene said, 'Oh, gee, I'm spending too much time overseas. So let's say I don't meet with China. You know what's happened right now to Georgia? To every other state?" Trump said aboard Air Force One. He continued: "They're not working because your magnets and your rare earths would've kicked in, and there wouldn't have been a factory in the world working if I didn't have a relationship overseas with China." Trump said that he is in the United States "95, 98 per cent of the time." READ MORE: Trio of teens charged over alleged violent carjacking "The last thing I want to do is travel 22 hours in an airplane, as nice as this plane is," he said. Trump warned that Greene has "changed" politically in recent weeks as the Georgia congresswoman has publicly lambasted the White House's messaging on the government shutdown and Epstein. "I think that her constituents aren't going to be happy. Already, I have people calling me. They want to challenge her to a race in her district in Georgia," Trump said. He also said he was open to endorsing a rival GOP candidate in a primary race. Greene is one of four House Republicans who signed on to a discharge petition to force a vote on release of Justice Department documents pertaining to the Epstein case, but CNN has reported that the number of House Republicans who could break from Trump and vote for the files' release could be greater. Trump has repeatedly and emphatically described calls for transparency around his ties to Epstein as a "hoax." READ MORE: The political scandal every Australian PM is at risk of repeating But Greene's message has also extended more broadly to target Trump's economic policies, suggesting that the White House needs to improve its messaging on affordability issues. Greene fired back in her social media post with a pair of screenshots of text messages that appeared to be sent to Trump and his aide Natalie Harp. Most Americans, she wrote, "wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream." In a message to a contact in her phone labelled "DJT," Greene encouraged Trump to "lean into" Epstein's ties to other high-profile figures and what she described as the "deep state." In a separate message to Harp, she voiced her support for Trump but said the White House must "stop ignoring the women. … Them being raped as teenagers is not a hoax."
