India's Top Six Cities See 26% Rise In New Office Supply, Pune Tops List: Vestian

India's top six cities witnessed a 26 per cent annual growth in new supply of office spaces during the September quarter to 16.1 million sq ft as developers look to encash strong demand of premium workspaces from global and domestic firms, according to Vestian.. US-based real estate consultant Vestian data showed that the new supply of office space was the highest in Pune at 3.70 million sq ft during the July-September period, an increase of 164 per cent from the year-ago period.. In Delhi-NCR, the new office supply increased 35 per cent to 3.10 million sq ft.. The fresh supply of office space in Chennai jumped 320 per cent to 2.1 million sq ft, while the supply doubled in Mumbai to 1.80 million sq ft.. However, Bengaluru, the biggest office market in India, witnessed a 6 per cent drop in new office supply to 3.40 million sq ft.. In Hyderabad, too, the new supply fell 51 per cent to 2 million sq ft during July-September period of this calendar year.. Interestingly, Kolkata, the seventh major cities tracked by Vestian, saw no fresh supply of office space during the latest September quarter.. Vestian CEO Shrinivas Rao said, 'The third quarter of 2025 reported the highest absorption of the current year, primarily driven by GCCs (global capability centres). This robust demand kept the office market buoyant amid global trade uncertainties and geopolitical tensions.' He noted that construction activity also gained momentum, with significant supply additions across key markets.. 'Robust absorption, healthy supply, and a diversified occupier base are expected to drive the next wave of growth in the coming quarters. H-1B visa restrictions may further amplify the demand for offices in India as more and more GCCs expand their footprint in India,' Rao said.. According to Vestian, the leasing or absorption of office space rose 6 per cent to 19.69 million sq ft during July-September period of 2025 across seven major cities in the country.. Major developers who are constructing office spaces include DLF Ltd, Tata Realty & Infrastructure, Hiranandani Group, Embassy Group, Prestige Estates, Sattva Group, and RMZ Group.. There are four listed Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) that are backed by rent-yielding office assets. They have a huge portfolio of office assets and are also expanding through both greenfield and brownfield routes.. The four listed REITs are Sattva-Blackstone backed Knowledge Realty Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, K Raheja-backed Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Brookfield India Real Estate Trust.

China's CPI Rises 0.2% in October

Beijing, November 09 (QNA) - China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.2% year-on-year in October 2025, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Sunday. On a monthly basis, the CPI also rose 0.2% last month, according to this data, cited by Xinhua News Agency. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, increased by 1.2% year-on-year, marking the sixth consecutive month of acceleration in growth pace. NBS statistician Dong Lijuan attributed the consumer price increase last month to the continued effects of policies to expand domestic demand. Sunday's data also revealed that the producer price index, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, went down 2.1% year-on-year in October. (QNA)

Football: Monaco ship four goals and suffer back-to-back league defeats

Hamstrung by a controversial refereeing decision, AS Monaco lost 4-1 at the hands of Lens on Saturday, succumbing to back-to-back defeats in Ligue 1 for the first time since October 2024. It was a night of what-ifs at the Stade Louis II. Aleksandr Golovin had the chance to give this match a completely different complexion. The Russian benefited from a defensive error from the visitors. Allowed to run half the pitch unimpeded, with all 10 of Lens’ outfield players up for a corner, he could not beat the one man who stood in his way, Robin Risser. The Lens goalkeeper thwarted Golovin’s attempts to round him. Monaco would give Lens plenty of gifts later in the game, but unlike the Principality club, the visitors didn’t pass them up. Folarin Balogun went close just moments later, but once again could not beat Risser. But Sébastien Pocognoli’s side soon found themselves trailing. Odsonne Édouard had already gone close with a header off the inside of the post, juggled but ultimately caught by the grateful Philipp Kohn. He didn’t pass up his second invitation, which came courtesy of a misplaced Thilo Kehrer pass, straight to Florian Thauvin. The ball fell to Édouard via Adrien Thomasson, and he made no mistake with Kohn on the ground and out of mind. Scuro denounces “unacceptable” red card Just as it did against Paris FC a week earlier, which consigned Monaco to their first league defeat at home in 2025, the verve and intensity quickly seeped out of Monaco’s game after a strong start. But they were handed an equaliser. Balogun came in between Mamadou Sangaré and the ball, eliciting the contact, falling, getting back up, and slotting home from the penalty spot. The UMSNT forward would have a greater bearing on this game, but not in a positive sense. Having worked their way back into the game, Monaco fell back behind courtesy of some more sloppy defending. Jordan Teze and Kehrer were at sixes and sevens, allowing Wesley Said ample space to finish at Kohn’s near post. Les Monégasques needed to use the break to regather themselves, but before they could do so, the match was put beyond them. Balogun, having scored, was then shown red. Bastien Dechepy took his time to produce the red card for Balogun’s tackle on Sangaré, but once he did, VAR did not contradict him. “For me, it is not acceptable that this situation is a red card. Especially when you look at the criteria. We had similar situations during the game but nothing was given. We don’t understand why VAR didn’t intervene in this situation. By the rules, it shouldn’t be a red card, and it had a massive impact on the game,” said Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro, who passed through the mixed zone post-match to denounce the refereeing display. Lens exploit “favourable” conditions But for Scuro, as for Pocognoli, it was not about finding excuses, even if plenty were posited, from the refereeing, to the scheduling, the absentees… Even Lens manager Pierre Sage alluded to “favourable” conditions for his side, but as he noted, they still had to be “exploited”, and they certainly were. Just seconds after Balogun’s red, the man on the receiving end of that consequential challenge, Sangaré, was up on his feet and bursting through the defence, finishing low to Kohn’s right, ensuring that Lens headed into the break two goals and one man to the good; the game was decided, the second-half an epilogue of an already completed novel. Les Sang et Or, buoyed by their vocal fans, who had travelled en masse, extended their lead to three goals as Said doubled his account, this time with a near-post header. There were chances to extend that lead: Matthieu Udol had a half-volley saved off the line, and Rayan Fofana contrived to miss the target from around the penalty spot when it looked harder to miss. But the feeling of insignificance was predominant in the second half. It was epitomised by Ansu Fati’s late miss from the spot. The awarding of the penalty, extremely harsh after an adjudged handball from Andrija Bulatovic, was met with a muted response from the crowd, and the miss from Fati was one of absolute apathy. By the time the full-time whistle had gone, Monaco had already come to terms with the loss some 50 minutes earlier, and many had already headed towards the exits. Pogba to return against Rennes? “It is a big disappointment tonight,” admitted Scuro, although Pocognoli insisted on a “measured response”, despite the severity of the scoreline on the night. “There is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster in between these good and then more mixed performances, that is why I am quite reserved in victory but also in defeat,” added the Belgian, who, having replaced Adi Hutter one month ago, has seven points from a possible 15 in Ligue 1. It means that Monaco go into the international break on a low note, but the break is certainly a welcome one. “Some [players] will be able to have a breather,” said Pocognoli, who will nonetheless see many of his players fly off to the four corners of the globe to represent their national teams. But it isn’t just about the players. “For my staff and I, it will be good to have a breather for a few days because since I arrived, we’ve been working rigorously,” added the Monaco manager. But more importantly, it should be a new-look Monaco when they face Rennes on November 22nd. “So many key players will be back, and that will make us stronger,” said Scuro. Denis Zakaria, who came off the bench in the defeat on Saturday night, Lamine Camara, Vanderson, Eric Dier, and Lukas Hradecky are all expected to return… as is Paul Pogba. “I expect that he can have some minutes and start to show himself in Ligue 1,” revealed Scuro. With or without Pogba, Monaco must show a reaction. Zimbabwe police seen as corrupt and politicised Published: 09 November 2025 The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is widely viewed as corrupt, politicised, and ineffective, according to a new report by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights), which paints a grim picture of public trust in the country's law enforcement institutions. The report, titled "The 2024–2025 State of Peace Report: Mobilising Ideas and Actions for Peace in Zimbabwe," found that public confidence in the police has eroded to just 17.9%, with many citizens perceiving the force as a tool for political repression rather than public protection. The study, which assessed peace and governance trends across the country, concluded that law enforcement agencies have been "weaponised against suspected government critics.""On the degree of militarisation or policing, a combined 76% report frequent encounters with law enforcement, while 24% report rare or no contact," the report noted.ZimRights said this polarisation shows a divided national experience - with some communities facing constant police surveillance, while others endure near-total absence of policing."For the majority who report frequent encounters, the presence of law enforcement is often concentrated in urban centres, politically sensitive zones, or areas associated with illicit activity," the report said. The report highlighted that increased police visibility, particularly in urban areas, was not viewed as protective, but rather as politically motivated and intimidating."About 55.9% of those surveyed felt that the presence of police or military personnel reduced safety or had no impact," ZimRights found."This reinforces perceptions of surveillance and intimidation rather than community safety."The study further observed that the police tend to intensify their presence during political campaigns, demonstrations, or periods of unrest, reinforcing the perception that the ZRP is used to suppress dissent rather than uphold law and order. In contrast, many rural communities said they experience little to no engagement with law enforcement."In rural areas, 22.7% reported rare or no contact with law enforcement," the report stated."Respondents describe situations where police are unable or unwilling to respond to reported crimes, citing logistical constraints such as a lack of transport."This absence of official policing has forced communities to rely on informal systems - including neighbourhood watch groups and traditional leaders - to maintain security. However, ZimRights warned that such substitutes lack proper accountability and capacity, creating inconsistent protection. The human rights watchdog concluded that the dual experience - of coercive over-policing in some regions and state neglect in others - has deepened a national crisis of trust in law enforcement."For those frequently encountering police, the institution is seen as coercive and politically motivated," the report stated."For those who rarely encounter them, the police are viewed as absent and ineffective. Both realities contribute to the erosion of confidence in law enforcement institutions."ZimRights urged the government to demilitarise policing, strengthen community trust, and ensure independent oversight of the police force to restore legitimacy. - The Standard Tags: Police, You might also want to read this Police accused of releasing stock theft suspects Police foil launch of movement against Mnangagwa term extension Police hunt suspect in SIM swap fraud Police warn motorists over tampering with number plates Vendor wins US$21k lawsuit against council police Police launch manhunt for 'Madzibaba Veshanduko' Police Amendment Bill gazetted Ex-cop wants Commissioner General Mutamba jailed Police hunt youth service graduates after viral video Zimbabwe rolls out drug test kits to police posts

Harare bombing victim gives up Published: 09 November 2025 Zanu-PF activist and government critic Sybeth Musengezi says he has given up hope of ever getting justice after police failed to make progress in investigating the petrol bombing of his house in October 2022.Musengezi's Harare home was attacked by unknown assailants two years ago, resulting in the destruction of property worth several thousand dollars. The incident occurred at the height of his legal battle challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa's legitimacy as Zanu-PF leader and his subsequent attempt to block the party's elective congress through the courts.Speaking to The Standard, Musengezi said he has received no meaningful response from the police despite providing names of suspects believed to be involved in the attack."I didn't get any help or justice from the police," he said. "They refused to investigate the list of suspects that I gave them after receiving reliable information on who was responsible. The investigating officers told me they needed clearance from Zanu-PF headquarters to proceed since the suspects held respectable offices in the party and government."Musengezi said he was repeatedly referred to different police departments without any progress being made."I tried to follow up for almost a year with the anti-terrorism unit at Harare Central Police Station, who were handling the case," he said. "I was always passed from one officer to another until I got tired and left it hanging."The activist's ordeal mirrors a string of similar attacks targeting government critics in recent years. In a separate incident last month, the Sapes Trust conference room in Harare was petrol-bombed just hours before opposition politicians were scheduled to hold a press conference there. The event was meant to address allegations that Zanu-PF was plotting to extend Mnangagwa's presidential term from 2029 to 2030.On the same night, the home of another activist, Gilbert Mbwende, was also bombed.Sapes Trust director Dr Ibbo Mandaza confirmed that police have yet to provide any updates regarding the attack on his institution."There has been no communication or progress from the police since the bombing," Mandaza said.Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition spokesperson Obert Masaraure expressed concern over the lack of transparency and accountability from law enforcement authorities."It is widely known that a basic forensic expert could quickly determine the origin and type of explosive used," Masaraure said. "Armed with that information, the state could easily trace who imported or authorised the use of such materials. The continued silence completely erodes public confidence in the state's role as protector of its citizens."Police officials did not respond to requests for comment on the status of the investigations. For Musengezi, the silence has become an answer of its own. "I have stopped expecting anything," he said quietly. "If the police wanted justice, they would have acted long ago." - The Standard Tags: Bomb, You might also want to read this Mnangagwa bomb: Cops dragnet closing in on suspects Detectives sweat over grenade attack probe MDC Alliance fears crackdown after election rally bombing

Mystery over Sikhala's arrest in South Africa deepens Published: 09 November 2025 Prominent Zimbabwean opposition activist and lawyer Jacob Sikhala is set to appear in court in Pretoria, South Africa, on Monday, where he is expected to learn more about the circumstances surrounding his mysterious arrest over alleged possession of explosives last Friday.Sikhala, who currently leads the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), was detained alongside his 78-year-old uncle at a roadblock in Pretoria. Police allege the two were found in possession of 26 blasting cartridges and 15 capped fuses - a claim the outspoken activist has vehemently denied. The 53-year-old former legislator, known for his fierce criticism of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government, maintains that he is the victim of a political setup.According to sources close to Sikhala's defence team, there are suspicions that his arrest may have been part of a well-orchestrated plot to frame or discredit him, possibly involving elements linked to Zimbabwean intelligence."He was trapped on trumped-up charges," one associate claimed. "This has all the hallmarks of political persecution that has followed him for years."Sikhala, who was reportedly in South Africa for medical treatment, is said to have been lured into a meeting by individuals posing as Congolese political figures or miners who expressed interest in supporting his democracy efforts in Zimbabwe. His lawyer, Eric Mabuza, confirmed that Sikhala denies any knowledge of explosives being in the vehicle."My client insists there were no explosives in the car when he and his uncle went for dinner," Mabuza said. "He believes this incident smacks of foul play."Sikhala has been arrested more than 70 times in Zimbabwe, mostly on charges widely viewed as politically motivated. Despite this, he has rarely been convicted - a pattern his supporters say highlights the persecution-by-prosecution approach used by authorities to silence dissenting voices. His most recent detention in Zimbabwe, in 2022, saw him spend nearly 600 days in prison before being released earlier this year without conviction.South African police have confirmed the arrest of two men - aged 53 and 78 - in connection with the explosives case. Law enforcement officials say the arrests followed a tip-off, and investigations are underway."Investigations are continuing. CCTV footage and other evidence are being reviewed to establish the sequence of events," a police spokesperson said.Sikhala and his uncle are expected to appear in court tomorrow morning, where charges and further details of the case will be formally presented. The arrest has sparked a wave of speculation and outrage among Zimbabwean civil society groups, who see the incident as part of a broader regional crackdown on exiled critics of the Harare administration. - online Tags: Sikhala, You might also want to read this Sikhala remains in SAPS custody Sikhala to appear in SA court today Sikhala says he is lucky to be alive Sikhala says he was set up by Zanu-PF Sikhala arrested in SA over alleged explosives smuggling Sikhala was warned before his house bombing Sikhala finally commences court action against Mutanho Sikhala reps reprimand police Sikhala hires private investigators after house bombing 'Bombing' of Sikhala's home condemned

'Best Moment of My Career': Fernando Mendoza Reflects on Game-Winning Drive

After helping No. 2 Indiana (10-0) avoid a blemish on its perfect record, Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza made a grand declaration on the significance of Saturday's thrilling 27-24 win over Penn State. "This, by far, is the best moment of my career," Mendoza said before praising the Hoosiers' brotherhood. "To see what we've all been through, the Iowa game, the Oregon game to now, the Penn State game, those are all games you have circled, especially being away, before the season … "These are game-winning drives that you dream of growing up as a kid. So, I think this is the top [moment] of my career right now." For some, barely beating the now-unranked Nittany Lions (3-6) might be considered a knock on the Hoosiers' magical year. But, as Mendoza noted, the program has hung on for some great wins this season, with the Week 11 victory being the most dramatic. Mendoza bounced back from an interception and an empty four-play drive to orchestrate the game-winning series. Trailing 24-20 with 1:51 to play, the Hoosiers marched on a 10-play, 80-yard drive capped by Mendoza's 7-yard pass to wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. for an unbelievable go-ahead score—coupled with a Gus Johnson call for the ages—with 36 seconds left in regulation. The Hoosiers closed it out to secure their closest win of the season. Mendoza finished 19-of-30 for 218 yards, a touchdown, and an interception to go with six carries for 20 yards and a score. Much like the wins over Oregon and Iowa, Indiana's win over Penn State was yet another test of the team's mettle. The Hoosiers scored 10 unanswered points over the final 12:41 to break a 20-20 tie with the Ducks, while another Mendoza game-winner on a 49-yard pass to Elijah Sarratt inched them past the Hawkeyes. With two games left in the regular season, Mendoza and Indiana are zeroing in on the program's first undefeated season since 1945. And, if they pull it off, Saturday's win might not be the best moment of Mendoza's career for much longer. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Djokovic pulls out of ATP Tour Finals with injury

Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the ATP Tour Finals in Turin next week due to injury, he announced on social media Saturday. Djokovic, 38, made history on Saturday when he became the oldest man to win on the ATP Tour after winning the Athens Open. Djokovic claimed his 101st title after beating Lorenzo Musetti in three sets. But he played with wrapping on his shoulder and later announced he is not fit enough to play in the end-of-season showpiece. "I was really looking forward to competing in Turin and giving my best but after today's final in Athens, I'm sad to share that I need to withdraw due to an ongoing injury," he posted on Instagram. "I'm truly sorry to the fans who were hoping to see me play - your support means so much. "I wish all the players an amazing tournament, and I can't wait to be back on the court with you all soon." Djokovic's withdrawal means that Musetti has a reprieve. He needed to win the title in Athens to qualify for the Finals on home soil but his defeat meant he finished ninth in the race. As the first alternate, he got his second chance when Djokovic pulled out. PA contributed to this report.

EFCC arrests three for ‘vote buying’ during Anambra governorship election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its operatives have arrested three people for alleged vote buying during the Anambra governorship election. In a statement shared on its X page on Saturday, the agency said the suspects were apprehended by its operatives monitoring the electoral process in different parts of the state. “The suspects are Emeka Ilokasia, arrested at Ward 2, Njikoka Local government, Anambra; Nwachuwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi local government and Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi village, Dukonukofia local government,” the statement reads. “All the suspects were arrested while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.” The agency added that the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are completed. Earlier today, George Moghalu, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), said despite the heavy deployment of security personnel for the election, he had received reports of widespread vote-buying. Moghalu also described the trend as “most unfortunate” and warned that the crime undermines the integrity of the electoral process. Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, had also alleged that a rival party planned to manipulate the results during the collation process. “The only concern we have received is from one or two places, particularly in the south local government, where there are reports of massive vote buying,” Soludo said. According to him, one of the candidates from that area “seems desperate to win the local government and has been sharing N15,000 per Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Trump says no US official will attend G20 in South Africa, cites ‘human rights abuses’

US President Donald Trump says no American official will attend the G20 summit in South Africa later this month, citing “human rights abuses” taking place in the former apartheid country. The G20 meeting is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg from November 22 to 23. Trump had earlier said South Africa should not be in the G20 at all and hinted that he would send Vice-President JD Vance instead of attending himself. However, the US president’s latest announcement rules out the possibility of JD Vance’s attendance. Trump said it is “a total disgrace” that the G20 will be held in South Africa, noting that he looks forward to hosting the next meeting in Miami, Florida. “Afrikaners (people who are descended from Dutch settlers and also French and German immigrants) are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and farms are being illegally confiscated,” he said. “No U.S. Government Official will attend as long as these Human Rights abuses continue. I look forward to hosting the 2026 G20 in Miami, Since returning to office in January, Trump has repeatedly accused South Africa of discriminating against the white minority and perpetuating a “genocide” against the Afrikaners. In May, he confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in the Oval Office over the claims. But the evidence Trump presented was found to be false. He had shown a screenshot of a Reuters video taken in the Democratic Republic of Congo and claimed it was proof of mass killings of white South Africans. The South African government has insisted that the claim of a white genocide is “widely discredited and unsupported by reliable evidence”. NERD portal hits 11,000 thesis submissions, 40,000 enrollments in 21 days

This figure, released by the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD), comes three weeks after its portal opened for uploads. The education ministry earlier said the data bank would combat the rising abuse of academic titles and certificate racketeering. It also made the upload of undergraduate theses compulsory for national service, with enforcement slated to begin by October 6, 2025. The NERD, in a communique, said students uploaded over 10,000 project entries in the first three weeks of its digitisation programme. It said the figure climbed to over 11,000 by the weekend of November 8, with 158 post-graduate entries from 242 active institutions. The NERD said over 40,000 students have been successfully enrolled on its system since it became operational. The agency said its analysis indicates that Ekiti State University in Ado-Ekiti leads with a total of 990 curated entries. Others in the top 10 are Bayero University in Kano and Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state. Ekiti State University – 990 Bayero University Kano – 611 Auchi Polytechnic in Edo – 532 Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State – 493 Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Osun State – 479 University of Ilorin, Kwara State – 469 Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti – 462 Kaduna Polytechnic – 379 The University of Benin, Edo State – 374 University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu – 282 The analysis showed that science and innovation, with entries of 5,952, lead as the preferred knowledge pillars. The figure, the NERD said, is not derived from science and engineering students alone. Students from arts and social science backgrounds were discovered to be pursuing research topics around innovation. Other higher industry thematic preferences are multidisciplinary at 2,091, engineering and technology at 1,958, tourism and entertainment at 1,392, infrastructure and sustainable development at 952, and humanities at 783 submissions. The NERD said it has also onboarded 135 tertiary institutions for academic credential verification purposes. Haula Galadima, NERD’s spokesperson, said a major strategic objective of the federal government for the thesis digitisation, classification, and archiving scheme is to enhance the quality of supervision without directly meddling in the process. She stated that lecturers across Nigerian institutions were likely to be more thorough with their supervisory work if they were aware that their names would accompany those works to be accessible to other researchers, captains of industry, and entrepreneurs globally. “NERD now has precision metrics to track earned allowances computation in any institution in Nigeria,” she added. “This will help the government to see the quantum of supervisory works being done by our lecturers outside their rigorous class teaching schedules, field, or laboratory work.” The NERD was first introduced in Nigeria in 2023, with the policy approved by the federal executive council on February 4, 2025. ‘A complete fabrication’ — Modu Sheriff says he didn’t accuse Shettima of creating Boko Haram

Ali Modu Sheriff, former governor of Borno state, has denied claims that he accused Vice-President Kashim Shettima of creating Boko Haram, describing the report as “false, malicious, and dangerous”. A publication circulating online had quoted Sheriff as saying, “It’s not me; it’s Shettima who created Boko Haram.” The report was first published in August 2016. But in a statement issued on Saturday, Sheriff dismissed the report as a “complete fabrication” aimed at misleading the public and stirring political discord. “The said story is a complete fabrication, devoid of truth, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, malign the person of Senator Sheriff, and sow discord within the nation’s political landscape,” the statement reads. Sheriff said he never granted any interview or spoke to any journalist on the matter, adding that the falsehood was designed to undermine his long-standing commitment to peace and national unity. “This false report is not only mischievous but also a dangerous piece of fake news aimed at undermining years of Senator Sheriff’s contributions to peace, national unity, and development, both in Borno State and across Nigeria,” the statement added. The former governor urged members of the public and the media to disregard the publication, noting that he had directed his legal team to identify and pursue those behind the story. “Senator Sheriff has instructed his legal team to take immediate steps to identify all individuals, bloggers, or media outlets responsible for the dissemination of this defamatory material,” his media office said. “Should the false publication not be retracted and taken down forthwith, the Senator will not hesitate to seek full legal redress under Sheriff reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s security, stability, and democratic values and vowed to ensure that the spread of misinformation does not go unpunished. Anambra guber heavily monetised… LP has no funds for vote-buying - Yunusa Tanko

Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, says vote-buying is undermining the credibility of the ongoing Anambra governorship election. He spoke on Saturday with journalists at Uruagu community in Nnewi north LGA of the state. Tanko said the group has deployed its structures across the 176,000 polling units to monitor the election in real time and provide reports. He also expressed concern about voter apathy and underscored the need to ensure citizens turn out to cast their ballots. “Our agents and coordinators are already on the ground in all 21 local governments,” he said. “But painfully enough, the process, one way or another, is heavily monetised. That has affected the election both on the part of the candidates and the electorate itself. “Most importantly, we must find a way of imposing definitive measures against those who give money and those who take it. Because if you don’t give, nobody will take.” Tanko explained that removing the influence of money will leave voters with the choice of selecting credible candidates. “At the moment, people are offering money even publicly. You see it on television and social media. People are offering money for this and that,” he said. He lamented that poverty has been weaponised to secure votes. “People are hungry. There is no doubt about it. We in the Obidient Movement are going to report this for everybody to know,” Tanko said. He said the movement’s efforts aim to make citizens aware that money is playing a decisive role in the election. “It’s a learning curve for Nigerians to understand that the Obidient Movement’s structures are on the ground, and that money is heavily influencing the election,” he said. Tanko also dismissed claims that the Labour Party (LP) is participating in vote-buying. “No, of course not. That is why we are raising this alarm. We are not involved because we don’t have the money to do that,” he said. He said refraining from manipulating voters with money upholds the movement’s credibility and commitment to free and fair elections. “Obviously, we will not engage in vote-buying or try to manipulate people using money. We simply do not have the resources,” he said. Tanko also defended Peter Obi’s integrity. “What I know is that Mr Peter Obi will never engage in vote-buying,” he said. Asked who Obi is supporting, Tanko said he had publicly endorsed LP candidate George Moghalu. “But the decision is ultimately for the Anambarians. They will decide who becomes their governor,” Tanko added. “He cannot make that choice for them. Any choice they make, he will abide by.” He reiterated that the governor’s selection rests solely with the electorate. Panic as school unveils new WASSCE subject offerings for students in SS3

A Lagos school has abruptly communicated new subject offerings for the 2026 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE), causing panic among students already in class 3. On Saturday, TheCable obtained a communique from the Nigeria Air Force Secondary School in Ikeja Lagos addressed to parents. The communique disclosed that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has adopted new subject offerings for its 2026 SSCE. The adjustments, it stated, will apply to SS3 students, who did not offer those subjects but will write the WASSCE in under six months. Nigeria earlier launched a new basic and secondary education curriculum, with implementation set for the 2025/2026 academic year. The latest revisions aimed to reduce subject overload, incorporating new skills like digital literacy and entrepreneurship. The reform also reintroduced history as a standalone subject at the basic education level. The education ministry had stated that implementation would commence at the beginning of each three-year education cycle. This meant that incoming students in Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS1 and SS1 would be taught the revised curricula as unveiled. Students already halfway through each cycle were to finish with the old curriculum, which would eventually be phased out. However, the communique obtained by TheCable indicates otherwise, with WAEC purportedly moving to introduce the revised subject offerings in its 2026 SSCE for students who were not taught those subjects. The move has stirred panic among students, guardians, and parents alike who are seeking clarity on the policy’s direction. Calls and messages to Moyosola Adesina, spokesperson of WAEC, are yet to receive a response as of this reporting. Folashade Boriowo, press director at the education ministry, told TheCable that only WAEC can answer to how it is going about implementing the curriculum. It is still unclear if adopting the subject offerings in the new curriculum as from the 2026 SSCE is a general policy direction at WAEC. Dortmund concede late equaliser in 1-1 draw at Hamburg

HAMBURG, Germany :Borussia Dortmund conceded a last-gasp equaliser at Hamburg SV on Saturday to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga, failing to bounce back from their midweek defeat by Manchester City. Dortmund, looking to recover from Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League loss at City, struggled to carve out scoring chances in the first half, with Hamburg hitting the woodwork through Nicolas Capaldo's header in the 39th minute. The visitors did benefit from sloppy Hamburg defending before the ball fell to Carney Chukwuemeka who turned and volleyed in for a 64th-minute lead. The Ruhr valley club, however, failed to hold on to it and Hamburg's Ransford-Yeboah Koenigsdoerffer headed in an equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time to rescue a point for the hosts. Dortmund are third on 21 points, seven behind Bayern Munich, whose 16-game winning run this season ended with a 2-2 draw at Union Berlin

Kane nets late equaliser but Bayern winning run ends with draw at Union

BERLIN :Harry Kane headed in a stoppage-time equaliser to avoid Bayern Munich's first defeat of the season but their 2-2 draw at Union Berlin ended their record winning start across all competitions. Union thought they had won it with Danilho Goekhi's second goal in the 83rd minute but Kane headed in the leveller. Bayern top the Bundesliga on 28 points, six ahead of RB Leipzig. Bayern, who had made it 16 victories from 16 games with 2-1 win at Champions League holders Paris St Germain 2-1 on Tuesday, looked to have run out of steam against the hard-working Berliners. The hosts thought they had taken the lead with Ilyas Ansah's ninth-minute header but the fans were bitterly disappointed after the referee ruled it marginally offside following a VAR review. They still went in front in the 27th when Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer let Goekhi's weak shot slip through his hands and under his body. It was the first time Bayern had conceded a first- half goal and the first time they were trailing in the Bundesliga this season. Luis Diaz, who had scored twice but was also sent off against PSG, drew them level after playing a superb one-two with Josip Stanisic, sliding to keep the ball in play and curling a shot from near the sideline into the top far corner. The Colombian should have scored again for the champions in the 45th after he was sent through by Kane but he fired well wide with only the keeper to beat. It was the hosts who scored again in the 83rd when with Dutchman Doekhi volleyed in after Kane failed to clear a free kick. The England captain, however, made amends with his 13th league goal of the season.

Rugby league-Australia complete Ashes whitewash with comfortable third test victory

LEEDS, England :Australia completed a 3-0 rugby league Ashes series whitewash with a convincing 30-8 victory over a spirited but inferior England in the third and final test at Headingley on Saturday. With the series win secured with one test to spare, Australia never looked like failing to complete a second successive Ashes whitewash, and first-half tries from Josh Addo-Carr and Hudson Young put them in command. George Williams's timely try just before the interval did give the hosts hope of saving some pride. England piled on the pressure to try to complete the turnaround as things turned feisty in the second half. The hosts failed to make plenty of early second-half pressure count, wastefulness that proved their undoing again as further tries from Harry Grant and two from Reece Walsh gave the tourists back-to-back Ashes whitewashes for the first time since 1986. England needed a fast start to try to put Australia on the back foot for the first time in the first rugby league Ashes series for 22 years. They found themselves behind, however, after Addo-Carr went over in the corner with just five minutes on the clock. The hosts had their chances to issue a response but, not for the first time in the series, they failed to take advantage of some Australian defensive slips. By the time Young had reacted quickest to Cameron Munster's clever kick to extend the tourists' lead, with Nathan Cleary converting both tries, Australia were once again firmly in the ascendancy. England looked dead and buried at that point but a sensational burst from Jez Litten set up captain Williams, before four points from the boot of Harry Smith at least gave home supporters hope of salvaging some pride. Scuffles became commonplace as the crowd got their backs up, with Australia pinned in front of their own posts for lengthy periods. Chances came and went as the England defensive mistakes crept back in. Mikey Lewis's error let Grant in under the sticks to end home hopes, before Walsh reacted first to another slip from the hosts to add to Headingley's woes. Walsh danced through the weary England rearguard to finish off the scoring in style late on. With no international matches scheduled between now and next year's World Cup, England are a long way from being prepared to perform in the showpiece tournament, hosted by Australia and Papua New Guinea. They have now tasted defeat in 14 successive Ashes series since success in 1970 as Great Britain, with some supporters chanting: "You're getting sacked in the morning" in the direction of coach Shaun Wane as the match petered out.

Neom vs Al Nassr: Ronaldo and Joao Felix continue scoring form to lead Faris Najd past newly-promoted side led by Lacazette

The Portuguese duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix propel Al Nassr to another victory. Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix improved their already impressive goal tally for the season, helping Al Nassr to a 3-1 win against Neom. The Portuguese duo have been responsible for 19 of Faris Najd's 26 goals in the Saudi Pro League season (10 for Felix, 9 for Ronaldo). Cristiano's 64th-minute penalty and Felix's 86th-minute goal ensured Ahmed Abdu's late strike for Neom dealt negligible damage. Key match details Al Nassr struggled to break down Neom in the first half. However, Jorge Jesus’s half-time team talks seemed to have worked wonders, as they struck early after the break in the 47th minute when Angelo Gabriel beat Luis Maximiano. NEOM’s ability to respond was severely impacted when Luciano Rodriguez was shown a straight red review of an incident of violent conduct. Only five minutes later, Al Nassr doubled their advantage when their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo converted a 65th-minute penalty, awarded after a foul on João Félix inside the box. From then on, Al Nassr kept the pressure high, dominating possession and restricting NEOM’s opportunities. However, NEOM had chances of their own and threatened a comeback when Abdu scored in the 84th minute. However, in the 86th minute, João Félix sealed the win with a smart finish after a quick interchange on the edge of the box, leaving NEOM without any meaningful reply. The result keeps Al Nassr’s perfect start intact and strengthens their grip at the summit of the table. For NEOM, the defeat spotlights their defensive frailities.

United 'too comfortable' in dramatic draw at Spurs, says Amorim

LONDON :Ruben Amorim accused his Manchester United players of being "too comfortable" before Tottenham Hotspur overturned his team's early lead, describing Saturday's 2-2 draw as two points dropped even though they grabbed a last-gasp equaliser. Bryan Mbuemo put United ahead with a header in the first half and had seemingly set them on their way to a fourth win in five games and provisional second place in the Premier League. Spurs equalised with six minutes left, however, and Richarlison struck early in added time, only for Matthijs de Ligt to snatch a point in the 96th minute. Amorim was in no mood to celebrate a dramatic end to a game and said his team ought to have seen it out more easily, particularly after giving away the lead in last Saturday's 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest. "We have a lot of problems," he told reporters. "We are just in the beginning. I know that sometimes the results show to people that we are improving ... but we have a lot to do." 'THREE POINTS WERE THERE' FOR UNITED "To overcome everything and to manage to score is a good thing," Amorim said. "But if you look at the rest of the game, we were comfortable and I think we should do better, be more aggressive, feeling the environment in the stadium, that the three points were there, the space was there. "We need to expect that in one play anything can happen and change the mood of the stadium. And today was that." Striker Benjamin Sesko, signed this summer for an initial 76.5 million euros, started on the bench having come in for criticism with only two goals in his previous 11 appearances. The Slovenian was denied a chance to restore United's lead at 1-1 by a brilliant last-ditch challenge from Micky van de Ven which seemed to cause Sesko discomfort. Amorim insisted he was not concerned by Sesko's form, but was worried the forward may be facing a period on the sidelines. "I'm more concerned with an injury because it's in the knee and I don't know, and we need Ben to be a better team," he said.
