India News | Delhi Police Busts International Fake Call Centre, 8 Held While Alleged Kingpin Absconds

New Delhi [India], November 20 (ANI): Delhi Police have busted an international fake call centre operating from Satbari village in South Delhi and arrested eight people, including a woman, accused of operating a large-scale illegal call centre from a residential building and targeting foreign nationals using VoIP-based calling setups, foreign databases and forged communication tools. According to officials, the racket was being run by Sanu, a wanted criminal with past involvement in illegal activities. He fled moments before the raid and is currently absconding and a special team has been formed to trace him. World News | IMF Flags Deep Corruption Risks, Urges Urgent Reforms to Lift Pakistan's Economic Growth

Islamabad [Pakistan], November 20 (ANI): The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its long-awaited Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment (GCDA), has highlighted persistent corruption challenges in Pakistan driven by systemic weaknesses across state institutions and called for urgent structural reforms, Dawn reported. The publication of the report is a precondition for the IMF executive board's approval of a USD 1.2 billion disbursement expected next month. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. According to Dawn, the GCDA estimates that Pakistan could raise economic growth by 5 to 6.5 per cent over five years if it begins implementing a comprehensive package of governance reforms within the next three to six months. The report presses for an end to preferential treatment for influential public sector entities in government contracts and demands transparency in the functioning of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Also Read | Russia-Ukraine Peace Plan: Trump Administration 'Quietly' Pushes Fresh Peace Deal With Moscow to End War. The IMF assessment, quoted by Dawn, stresses that "a unifying theme is the emphasis on increasing transparency and accountability in policy formulation, implementation and monitoring," adding that this includes improving access to information and strengthening the capacity of state and non-state actors to participate effectively in governance and economic decision-making. It noted that Pakistan could generate "between a 5pc to 6.5pc increase in GDP" by pursuing the recommended governance reforms. The report states that both the IMF and the government agree that confronting and reducing corruption vulnerabilities is essential for sustainable reform, asserting that anti-corruption efforts work best when governance-strengthening measures are combined with initiatives that directly confront corruption and enhance integrity. Indicators show weak control of corruption over time, affecting public spending effectiveness, revenue collection and trust in the legal system. Citing the GCDA findings, Dawn reported that Pakistan faces systemic governance weaknesses across several state functions. The country remains exposed to corruption risks stemming from weaknesses in budgeting, fiscal reporting and the management of public resources, particularly in capital spending, procurement, and oversight of state-owned enterprises. The report also highlights an overly complex and opaque tax system run by authorities with insufficient capacity and oversight, further undermining performance. The judicial sector is described as inefficient and constrained by antiquated laws, making it unable to reliably enforce contracts or protect property rights due to organisational complexity and concerns over the integrity of judicial personnel, Dawn added. On procurement reforms, the IMF has demanded the elimination of preferences for SOEs in all public sector procurements, including the removal of provisions for direct contracting, and the mandatory adoption of e-governance procurement across all state transactions within 12 months. It has also called for the immediate publication of the first annual SIFC report detailing all investments facilitated, concessions granted and the rationale behind them. The report, as cited by Dawn, said the SIFC must develop explicit protocols and strengthen transparency measures due to its wide-ranging functions and authority. It also questioned the circumstances of the SIFC's creation and noted that although it was established through an amendment to accelerate investment and privatisation efforts, the Board of Investment continued to exist alongside it. The IMF observed that corruption vulnerabilities significantly affect fiscal performance. Pakistan's declining tax-to-GDP ratio is attributed to the complexity of the tax system, frequent rule changes and low public trust. The report further noted that the government retains substantial discretionary power over spending, with large gaps between enacted budgets and actual expenditures, and limited parliamentary engagement or public transparency. According to Dawn, discretionary allocations tend to favour districts represented by those in government or senior bureaucracy, reflecting the system's vulnerability to political influence. This skewed spending pattern has contributed to low returns on public investment. He stated that Ayodhya belongs to everyone and that both Hindu and Muslim residents have lived there together for generations. According to him, the city's cultural and spiritual importance should serve as a foundation for strengthening communal bonds. Ansari also highlighted the need for the administration to ensure that the growing influx of devotees and tourists is managed smoothly. He said that with rising footfall at the Ram Temple, the city requires improved facilities, connectivity, and safety measures. He added that development projects currently underway are shaping Ayodhya into a major pilgrimage and heritage centre. Calling for an environment of brotherhood, Ansari said that the Ram Temple should become a symbol of peace rather than division. He urged people across the country to support harmony and respect all faiths, noting that the real progress of Ayodhya lies not only in infrastructure but also in maintaining unity among its citizens. World News | India Calls for United Global Action on Energy Security on Sidelines of COP30 in Brazil

Belem [Brazil], November 20 (ANI): Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, addressed the High-Level Ministerial Leadership Session of the ISA SIDS Platform, held on the sidelines of UNFCCC CoP30 in Belem, Brazil, on Wednesday (local time), the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said. The event was organised under the theme 'Uniting Islands, Inspiring Action - Leadership for Energy Security'. It brought together Ministers and senior representatives from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), member nations of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), and partner organisations to advance collective actions for energy security, affordability, and resilience. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. The event emphasised that SIDS face unique vulnerabilities - high dependence on imported fossil fuels, climate-induced disruptions, and fragile infrastructure. Further, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change highlighted in its statement that the "ISA SIDS Platform aims to create a transformative digital and financial ecosystem to accelerate solar deployment through standardised procurement, blended finance, local capacity building, and streamlined access to solar technologies" Also Read | Russia-Ukraine Peace Plan: Trump Administration 'Quietly' Pushes Fresh Peace Deal With Moscow to End War. Addressing the session, Yadav underlined India's commitment to supporting SIDS in advancing clean energy pathways through ISA. Opening his remarks with optimism, the Minister highlighted India's rapid strides in renewable energy and stated, "Today, India has crossed 500 gigawatts of installed electricity capacity - and more than half of it is clean energy. India has already reached 50 per cent non-fossil energy capacity, five years ahead of its NDC target". The Minister also informed that "India is now the 4th largest renewable energy producer and 3rd in solar power globally." He stated, "It happened due to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his belief in Scale, Speed, and in the power of ordinary people". Sharing grassroots stories, Yadav spoke about the PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Programme and narrated the experience of a school teacher benefiting from the scheme. The Minister talked about how the beneficiary's life got transformed from being a person who used to wait for the electricity bill every month with fear, to now waiting for the sunshine, which has now become his income. He also emphasised that over 20 lakh families have adopted rooftop solar in India, calling it "freedom for every household" and "a mini power plant on every roof". On solar for agriculture, he said, "Solar for Agriculture is a new dawn for our farmer community. Now, they work with the sun and sleep with peace". Solar pumps and solarised feeders are making farming more reliable and more dignified by providing assured daytime solar-powered clean energy for all agricultural needs. No diesel. No waiting. No stress, he informed. The Minister highlighted initiatives lighting up remote and forested areas through the PM JANMAN scheme, and India's major push in energy storage. He informed, "India is building some of the world's largest 'solar and battery' projects, including a project in Ladakh that will store enough clean energy to light up an entire city". He emphasised that for SIDS, such models can help reduce diesel imports, cut energy costs, and improve climate resilience. Reaffirming India's commitment to the International Solar Alliance, Yadav said, "ISA has emerged as a Global Solar Family. More than 124 countries are now part of the International Solar Alliance. Think of ISA as a global solar family -- from the islands of the Pacific to the savannas of Africa to the mountains of South America." He added that ISA is accelerating solar project design, mobilising finance, generating local jobs, and making solar energy the first choice for clean, reliable electricity. The Minister concluded with a call for Shared Global Action and stated, "Solar energy is spreading its light in more than technological ways. It is Hope and Empowerment. It is Independence. It is Dignity. It is Peace." (ANI) (This is an unedited and auto-generated story from Syndicated News feed, LatestLY Staff may not have modified or edited the content body)

Sports News | Former Australia Captain Makes Key Predictions for Upcoming Ashes Series

Perth [Australia], November 20 (ANI): Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has delivered his predictions on the upcoming Ashes series, offering his thoughts on the key players for Australia and England and his predicted series scoreline, as per the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Ponting spoke in depth about the Ashes with host Sanjana Ganesan on the latest episode of The ICC Review, and the Australian great believes the upcoming series will be a lot closer than many experts are predicting. Also Read | Northern Warriors Beats Aspin Stallions, Deccan Gladiators Secure Six-Run Win Over UAE Bulls in Abu Dhabi T10 League 2025. While Australia have held the Ashes since 2018 and has lost just four Test matches to England on home soil since the turn of the century, Ponting believes England will be competitive during the five-match Test series Down Under. "I don't think there'll be any draws, just the way that England play," Ponting declared, as quoted from the official website of the ICC. Also Read | Roger Federer Elected to 2026 Class of International Tennis Hall of Fame. "If there's reasonable weather through the Australian summer, we know that the biggest concern for the last 15 years has been Sydney with the amount of days we've lost there," he said. "Perth and Brisbane this time of year are normally great. So I don't foresee any drawn games and I just think it's going to be really, really close," he added. "So I'm going 3-2 Australia," he noted. "The fact that there's no draws. I just think that's how potentially close it could be. And obviously I'm taking everything into account there as well," Ponting said. "The fact that England have only won four Test matches in Australia this century and I'm predicting that they're going to win two in this series. So that's how much closer I think it could be," he added. Ponting believes the opening partnership of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett will be crucial for England as he thinks Australia's bowlers can dominate the tourists' middle-order should early inroads be made. Ponting thinks England's openers must attack Australia's quicks to try and obtain the upper hand early in their innings. "I have had a bit of a look back through the last couple of years when England have played really good Test cricket and it's been on the back of some really good, fast, positive starts from their openers," Ponting noted. "Because of the way that they play, they come out, they play their shots, they put pressure back on the opposition straight away and sometimes before you know, you look up at the scoreboard and they are none for 70 or 80 and you're sort of eight or 10 overs into the Test match," he said. "That's the way they'll need to do it again, I think in Australia. It won't be easy because the wickets in Perth and Brisbane if they happen to bat first anyway, which is not England's preferred style of playing," he added. "England always like to bat second if they can, but I just think if they don't get off to flying starts and Duckett and Crawley can't be consistent at the top of the order, it just puts so much more pressure on those middle-order players on (Joe) Root, on (Harry) Brook, on Ollie Pope, who we know hasn't got a great record in Australia either," he noted. "And all of a sudden you might look up and Ben Stokes is in a whole lot earlier than what England would want him to be. So I think they (England openers) are crucial," Ponting said. "Everyone will talk about Root and Brook and Stokes and the impact that they could have on this series. But if the openers don't get England off to a really good, solid, fast start, then the Australian bowlers could dominate and get into that middle-order nice and early with the newer Kookaburra ball and it could be exactly what Australia are after," he added. Ponting is a long-time admirer of England captain Ben Stokes and believes the star all-rounder remains the most crucial player for the tourists. The former Australian skipper is especially keen to see how Stokes performs with the ball, given he will be able to provide front-line quicks Jofra Archer and Mark Wood the chance to freshen up in between spells. "The captain is always the most important player going into an Ashes series anyway, but I just think the way that England might line up in that first game, if they play Wood and they play Archer, they might play Atkinson as well. I just think that the role of Ben Stokes with the ball for England becomes so vitally important because he is well documented, you know, how fit he is, how hard he's worked," Ponting said. "He's made some sacrifices to his diet and his lifestyle to give himself a chance to be as good as he can be with the ball in this series. I think if he is fit and bowling as well as he can, then he's almost England's best bowler anyway in Test cricket, but he also gives Archer and Wood that chance to just freshen up a little bit," he added. "Also gives them the chance to maybe not even think about playing a specialist spinner if they don't want to in Perth and Brisbane, which is something I know that England have been talking about," he noted. "I think his role is crucial for England's success right the way through this entire series. If he's fit, healthy and strong and bowling as well as he can for five games makes them a much, much better team," he said. With Pat Cummins ruled out of the first Test due to a back injury and no certainty to return for the second Test in Brisbane, the Aussies will hand the captaincy reins to a familiar figure in former skipper Steve Smith. Ponting expects Smith to thrive in the role. "I think his (batting) record as captain is better than it is as a player anyway," Ponting noted. Smith's average dramatically improves when he leads the side, going to 68.98, almost 13 more than his career average of 56.02. On the other hand, his average when he doesn't captain is 49.90. "So his average is better than it is as a normal player. The fact that there's a bit of conjecture around Australia's top-order, I think, means that Smith needs to have a great series with the bat for Australia to win," he added. "There are always lots of people looking and talking and commenting on the way the captains go and as a captain, these are the moments that you live for," he said. "These series, being able to forge your reputation in Ashes series, whether you're an Englishman in Australia or you're the home captain, this is what we all play for," he noted. "So I'm really looking forward to not just the battle between the two captains, but these two teams for me line up incredibly well and I can't wait for Friday to come around," Ponting said. He originally predicted Josh Hazlewood would be the leading wicket-taker for both sides during the Ashes, but switched to a fellow Australian fast bowler once he found out the experienced right-armer would miss the first Test in Perth. "I actually had Hazlewood in as the leading wicket taker so I'm going to have to take that out now and I'll go Mitchell Starc now as the leading wicket taker across the series," he added. "Who knows what's going to happen if they happen to rest and rotate, that's the thing that we don't know," he noted. "If Cummins comes back in and then Hazlewood comes back in a little bit later, there might be an opportunity that Starc misses one of those games," he said. "He won't want to...but that's the hardest thing I think about trying to pick a leading wicket-taker now is you just don't know what they're thinking about getting him through five Test matches. So I'll go with Starc," Ponting added. "And I just think everything is aligned perfectly for Steve Smith to be the leading run scorer," he noted. "Back in that No.4 spot, has made hundreds in his last few Test matches that he's played, freshened up off a break being in New York away from everything for a while, scores a 100 when he comes back in his first Sheffield Shield game," he added. "I think he averages over 60 with the bat as captain. And I just think that it probably should be an Australian to be leading run-scorer, just considering the conditions and how hard it generally is for touring teams here," he said. "I might be a little bit biased, but Starc with the wickets and Smith with the runs," Ponting noted. World News | The Many Times Trump Echoed Saudi Crown Prince Khashoggi's Denials

Washington [US], November 20 (ANI): US President Donald Trump publicly defended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman when confronted by a reporter over US intelligence findings that he had orchestrated the 2018 killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, describing the journalist as "somebody that was extremely controversial" and "a lot of people didn't like." Trump dismissed the US intelligence conclusion and insisted the crown prince had no role in the murder carried out inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. "Whether you like him (Khashoggi) or didn't like him, things happen. But he (the crown prince) knew nothing about it. And we can leave it at that," Trump said, adding, "You don't have to embarrass our guest by asking a question like that." According to CNN, the remarks marked one of Trump's strongest public defences of the Saudi leader. Also Read | Russia-Ukraine Peace Plan: Trump Administration 'Quietly' Pushes Fresh Peace Deal With Moscow to End War. Trump has repeatedly leaned on the crown prince's denial since 2018, often placing more weight on Riyadh's statements than on assessments from the US intelligence community. Shortly after Khashoggi's killing, Trump stressed the value of Saudi economic ties when asked if the incident would alter his dealings with Riyadh. He said he would "have to see what happens," adding, "I don't like stopping massive amounts of money that's being poured into our country" from Saudi Arabia. He also noted that Khashoggi "is not a United States citizen," while acknowledging "we don't like" the killing "even a little bit." Later that same day, Trump told CBS that Saudi leaders "deny it vehemently," saying the US would be "very upset and angry if that were the case," but again cautioned against jeopardising defence purchases. CNN reported that Trump continued amplifying Saudi denials. On October 16, 2018, he tweeted, "Just spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish Consulate," adding that an internal investigation was underway and that "answers will be forthcoming shortly." Weeks later, Trump questioned whether anyone could ever determine the crown prince's role. "I don't know -- you know, who can really know," he told Fox News, though he noted that some people "close" to the crown prince "were probably involved." The following day, after multiple media outlets reported that CIA assessments linked the crown prince directly to the killing, Trump claimed, "As of this moment, we were told that he did not play a role." At the same time, he highlighted Saudi Arabia as an economic and strategic partner, saying the kingdom provided "a lot of jobs" and "a lot of business." In a written statement on November 20, 2018, Trump condemned the killing as "an unacceptable and horrible crime" but emphasised that "King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman vigorously deny any knowledge." He added, "Maybe he did and maybe he didn't!" and wrote that "our relationship is with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia." CNN noted that Trump later insisted "The CIA did not say affirmatively he did it," although US lawmakers who attended a classified briefing shortly afterward said they were convinced the crown prince had directed the operation. In early 2019, Trump again highlighted Saudi Arabia's economic importance while calling the killing a "terrible event," saying, "I'm not making excuses for anybody. I think that was a terrible tragedy. It was a terrible crime." Responding to a UN investigator's call for an FBI probe, Trump said in June 2019 that the matter "has been heavily investigated." When asked by whom, he replied, "By everybody," before once more underscoring the importance of Saudi purchases of US goods. India News | BJP is Misusing EC for Its Politically Motivated Agenda: TMC's Kunal Ghosh

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], November 20 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh, in a press conference held on Thursday, expressed his party's concerns over the Special Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) in West Bengal. Ghosh alleged that the BJP is misusing the Election Commission for its politically motivated agenda, leading to undue pressure on genuine voters and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. "The way the situation has been created regarding the SIR, because of that pressure, deaths are happening from both sides. First, genuine voters are panicking, and even BLOs, coming under pressure, are committing suicide. What is happening? Even Mamata ji, our Honourable Chief Minister, has protested. After the 2001 election, when SIR was done, there was a period of 2-2.5 years. But here, the BJP is misusing the Election Commission for its politically motivated agenda. Because of this pressure, common people are committing suicide and BLOs too.", Ghosh said. He further alleged that the national Election Commission is acting under the influence of the BJP, allowing BLA-2 personnel from other places to be deployed in areas where the BJP lacks organisational presence. Also Read | Delhi Air Pollution: Air Quality in City Remains 'Very Poor', AQI at 399; Moti Bagh, Akshardham Slip Into 'Severe' Category. "The way the national Election Commission is acting under the pressure of the BJP, highly influenced by the BJP... In places where the BJP doesn't have a BLA-2 in their booth, the EC has issued a circular allowing BLA-2 to be brought from other places. Why? Because the BJP has no organisation in Bengal..", he added. Responding to BJP's Amit Malviya claim that the Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s "terror mafia" is responsible for the deaths of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in West Bengal, Ghosh called them "totally baseless" and claimed that Malviya has no connection with the ground reality in Bengal. "Totally baseless. He has no connection with the ground reality in Bengal. The family of the person who committed suicide has said so. If he has courage, let him go to their house and speak to the family.", Ghosh stated. Responding to TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's recent remarks alleging that Governor CV Ananda Bose is keeping "guns and bombs" inside Raj Bhavan and harbouring criminals, Ghosh said, "Kalyan ji filed a complaint based on what he believed was correct. He is our senior leader, a lawyer, and he acted according to his understanding. Kalyan ji had some information... but whatever is happening is a panic reaction. They filed something against Kalyan, and in response, Kalyan ji, based on what he felt was right, also filed a complaint against the allegations made against the Governor's House." Earlier, the West Bengal Raj Bhavan issued a strong statement on Sunday, accusing Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee of committing offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for his recent remarks alleging that Governor CV Ananda Bose is keeping "guns and bombs" inside Raj Bhavan and harbouring criminals. In a press note, the Governor's office said Banerjee's statements have "the unavoidable effect of causing fear and alarm to the people of West Bengal, which can induce any member of the public against the State or against public tranquillity." "By stating that the Hon'ble Governor is in possession of guns and bombs at the Raj Bhavan and is harbouring criminals, Shri Kalyan Banerjee has induced fear and disaffection in the minds of the common man of West Bengal against their own Governor. The same may prompt any member of the public to carry out violent attacks on the Raj Bhavan," the statement read. On Saturday, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee had alleged that Governor Bose is "entertaining BJP criminals in Raj Bhavan" and giving them weapons to attack TMC workers in the state."Tell the Bengal Governor not to entertain BJP criminals in Raj Bhavan. He is keeping them there and giving them arms and ammunition to go and attack TMC workers. As long as such a governor is in office, nothing good will happen in Bengal," Banerjee said while at an event in Hooghly, Seelampur. Business News | Indian Markets Open in Green; Experts See Enough Global and Domestic Strength for a Record High

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 20 (ANI): The domestic stock markets opened on a positive note on Wednesday, supported by strong global cues after Nvidia delivered yet another set of blockbuster numbers and boosted confidence around the AI hyperscaling cycle. The upbeat sentiment pushed both the benchmark indices into the green at the opening bell, with investors tracking firm movements in US futures and gains across Asian technology stocks. Also Read | 2026 Met Gala Theme Is 'Costume Art'. The Nifty 50 index opened at 26,132.10, rising 79.45 points or 0.30 per cent, while the BSE Sensex started the session at 85,462.78, gaining 276.31 points or 0.32 per cent. With this momentum, both indices inched closer to their record highs--Nifty's all-time high of 26,277.37 and the Sensex peak of 85,978.25, both touched in September 2024. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert, told ANI that the Indian markets were positioned for a "subdued but positive reaction" with a firm opening expected. "Focus is on the US-India trade deal plus the upcoming visit of Russian President Putin to India which will seal a slew of deals. Nvidia delivered blockbuster numbers and reassured markets on the AI hyperscaling cycle with a strong guidance. US futures are dancing upwards and Asian tech stocks are up, leading the regional indices upwards," he said. The broader market also mirrored the upbeat sentiment. On the NSE, the Nifty 100 rose 0.32 per cent, the Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.37 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was up 0.39 per cent, maintaining positive momentum across market segments. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Metal recorded the strongest start with a 0.6 per cent rise, followed by Nifty Auto, which increased 0.50 per cent. Nifty IT also traded higher in early deals. The Nifty FMCG index was flat but in the green with a 0.14 per cent gain, while Nifty Realty climbed 0.31 per cent and consumer durables gained 0.25 per cent. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted that the Nifty 50 now has "enough global and domestic strength" to try breaking above its long-term rising resistance line from September 2024, a level tested several times through October 2025. He added that repeated tests of this zone indicate momentum is compressing for a decisive move. According to him, "A clear break above 26,100 could spark short covering and open a faster extension toward the horizontal resistance around the all-time high at 26,277. A sustained move above this level would mark a new lifetime high extension 26,500-27,000." He added that support has now shifted higher to 26,000, suggesting the market is showing comfort at elevated levels. Globally, markets were also reacting to the latest FOMC minutes, which were described as a "ho hum mixture of caution and hawkishness." However, the bigger driver for sentiment was Nvidia's strong earnings update, which not only boosted the company's outlook but offered what analysts called a "macro impacting earnings reassurance" for markets. Russia-Ukraine Peace Plan: Trump Administration ‘Quietly’ Pushes Fresh Peace Deal With Moscow to End War

Washington, November 20: The Trump administration has been quietly working on a fresh peace plan with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, a source familiar with the discussions told CNN, marking one of the most significant diplomatic pushes of Trump's presidency. According to CNN, Steve Witkoff, the president's special envoy and the central figure in Washington's back-channel talks with Moscow, has been leading the negotiations. The source said the pace of discussions increased this week as US officials believe the Kremlin has shown new openness to a potential agreement. In a parallel move, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday alongside a senior Pentagon team "on a fact finding mission to meet with Ukrainian officials and discuss efforts to end the war," Army Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler said in a statement. A US official told CNN the visit was ordered by the president as part of the administration's attempt to revive peace efforts. Driscoll was expected to brief President Volodymyr Zelensky and other top Ukrainian leaders on battlefield realities, weapons requirements and the emerging diplomatic track. The trip was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Putin, Netanyahu Phone Call over Gaza, Ahead of UNSC Vote on US Resolution as Russia Offers Counter Proposal. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed his meeting with Driscoll in a Telegram post, sharing a photo of both leaders. He expressed "gratitude" to the US for its "important support that saves the lives of Ukrainians every day." He added that he "presented to partners our developments in the field of defense innovations" and "focused on the next steps to implement the historic defense agreements reached by President Zelensky and President Trump." Though Driscoll has not previously been visible in earlier rounds of talks, he is a close ally of Vice President JD Vance from their time at Yale Law School and has largely worked on defence acquisitions. Other senior officials traveling with him included Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, Gen. Chris Donahue, the top US Army commander in Europe, and Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer. Russian officials also acknowledged ongoing high-level contacts, telling CNN that US-Russia engagement is continuing, including through Witkoff. Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev visited the US in October for meetings described by a Russian source as "very productive discussions." An Axios report noted that the draft being negotiated between Washington and Moscow currently spans 28 points, covering security guarantees for Ukraine and Europe, along with the future of US relations with both countries. When asked, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov downplayed the report, saying there are "no new developments to report so far." He added, "There were discussions in Anchorage. Beyond what was discussed in Anchorage, there have been no updates yet," referring to the August meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Trump in Alaska. 'We Stopped India and Pakistan': US President Donald Trump Repeats Claim That He Stopped War Between India and Pakistan (Watch Video). CNN reported that it remains unclear how deeply Europe or Ukraine are involved in the negotiations, or whether they would support the emerging framework. The push for renewed dialogue comes as the Trump administration has repeatedly attempted to broker an end to the conflict, only for past efforts to collapse when Putin failed to commit to concrete terms. "I thought that was going to be my easy one, because I have a good relationship with President Putin, but I'm a little disappointed in President Putin right now," Trump said at a US-Saudi investment conference on Wednesday. "He knows that." After Trump spoke with Putin by phone last month, he believed enough progress had been made to plan an in-person summit in Budapest. But within days, the meeting was canceled and new sanctions, the first imposed under Trump's second administration, were rolled out. US officials told CNN the White House concluded that Putin's position on ending the war had not meaningfully changed since his last meeting with Trump at a US air base in Alaska. Earlier peace efforts had focused on freezing Russian and Ukrainian forces along present front lines, a plan backed by Europe and Ukraine as a basis for renewed talks. The Kremlin rejected that approach, insisting it wanted a long-term settlement, not a temporary ceasefire. Sports News | 2025 ADT10: Vista Riders Defend 109 as Ashraf Shuts out Royal Champs

Abu Dhabi [UAE], November 20 (ANI): The second encounter of the day at the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 saw the Vista Riders seal a 9-run win over the Royal Champs at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. Vista Riders posted 109/7 thanks to impactful cameos from Ben McDermott (31 off 16) and Dwaine Pretorius (31 off 12), after an early wobble triggered by Haider Razzaq's three-wicket burst, according to a release from Abu Dhabi T10. McDermott stabilised the innings during a shaky middle phase, while Pretorius provided the late acceleration that proved crucial in a low-scoring contest. In reply, the Royal Champs looked on course during a blistering 50-run stand between Jason Roy and Brandon McMullen, who took them to 67/3 inside six overs. But the game turned sharply as Sharafuddin Ashraf and Andrew Tye claimed three wickets each, breaking the chase open. With 17 needed off the final over, Ashraf delivered a composed finish, conceding only seven to seal a nine-run win. Earlier, Northern Warriors pulled off a narrow four-run win over newcomers Aspen Stallions at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. Also Read | Roger Federer Elected to 2026 Class of International Tennis Hall of Fame. The Warriors posted 114/1, led by Johnson Charles' composed knock of 55* (34). The Stallions' chase began with intent through Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Avishka Fernando, but tight spells from Taskin Ahmed and a superb final over from Shahnawaz Dahani ensured the Warriors held their nerve. The Warriors made a quiet start, with Hazratullah Zazai 8 (7) and Charles 55* (34) putting up just 11 runs before Zazai fell at the end of the second over to Binura Fernando. Charles took charge immediately after, launching Zohair for a six and two fours in the third over to lift the Warriors to 32/1. Colin Munro 38* (21) joined in with a cleanly struck six in the following over. Harbhajan Singh managed to slow things briefly in the fifth, but Munro's boundary kept the Warriors moving steadily to 65/1 after six overs. Charles brought up his half-century in 29 balls, while Munro continued rotating strike and finding regular boundaries. The Stallions did well to squeeze in dot balls, but couldn't break the stand. A quiet last over meant the Warriors couldn't fully capitalise, though Munro's late boundary brought up an excellent 102-run partnership off 55 balls, closing the innings at 114/1. Chasing 115, Andre Fletcher 13 (6) set the tone with two early boundaries off Trent Boult, with Gurbaz 29 (11) joining the assault to take 21 off the first over. Taskin struck back by removing Fletcher, but Avishka Fernando 33 (20) seamlessly kept the tempo, striking a boundary off Taskin and a six off Boult. Gurbaz continued clearing the ropes as the Stallions raced to 48/1 after three overs. Gurbaz attempted another big one but mistimed it, falling to a high catch taken by Thisara Perera, off Odean Smith. Dahani then tightened the screws with a miserly over, and Shamsi added to the pressure by dismissing Du Plooy 5 (5) and giving away just five runs, leaving the Stallions at 70/3 after six overs. With 34 needed off the last three overs, Saif Hassan 15 (11) struck a six and a four to bring the chase back to life, but Taskin once again swung momentum, getting Fernando caught at the boundary. Sam Billings 12* (6) chipped in with two timely boundaries to reduce the equation to just eight required off the final over. Dahani, entrusted with the last over, delivered brilliantly, conceding only two runs before removing Hassan at the boundary and then bowling Mills the very next ball. With five needed off the last delivery, Billings couldn't get hold of Dahani's pinpoint ball, sealing a tense, down-to-the-wire win for the Warriors. Delhi Air Pollution: Air Quality in City Remains ‘Very Poor’, AQI at 399; Moti Bagh, Akshardham Slip Into ‘Severe’ Category

New Delhi, November 20: The national capital woke up to a blanket of toxic smog on Thursday, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting 399 at 9 am in the "very poor" category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Air quality showed no improvement from Wednesday, when the AQI was 392 at 9 am and 4 pm. Thick smog continued to engulf several parts of the city, severely reducing visibility and heightening health concerns. At India Gate, the AQI touched 400, landing in the "very poor" range, as per CPCB data. Pollution levels were even worse in some areas: Akshardham recorded an AQI of 420, while Dhaula Kuan stood at 423, both categorised as "severe". ITO matched India Gate at 400 in the "very poor" range. Meanwhile, Moti Bagh and Punjabi Bagh recorded one of the highest readings of the morning, with AQIs of 439 each, falling deep into the "severe" category, according to the CPCB. As per CPCB classification, an AQI between 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor', and 401-500 'severe'. Delhi-NCR Air Pollution: AQI of Delhi-NCR Remains in 'Very Poor' Range, 6 Stations Including Narela Cross 400 Mark. As of 9 am, AQI levels in other major cities were: Ahmedabad 178, Bengaluru 79, Chennai 90, Jaipur 230, Hyderabad 119, Patna 134, Pune 182, Lucknow 204, and Mumbai 145, as per CPCB. Amid the worsening air crisis, a local resident of Delhi voiced his frustration and concern. "This pollution has been going on for 10 or 15 years now. There's no permanent solution to it unless the government takes a serious look at it. Set a target to plant at least 2 crore trees in Delhi every year," he said to ANI. "Stubble burning has been going on for thousands of years. But the situation is year-round in Delhi. Find a permanent solution. We caused this pollution; we are responsible for it. There is no use in running away from your responsibility. Work seriously, protect the environment," he added. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday told the Delhi Government that school children should not be made to play outdoor sports during the highly polluted winter months from November to January. Justice Sachin Datta, while hearing a plea filed by minor students, said the authorities were failing to protect children's health and must change the annual sports calendar so that no outdoor events are held during these toxic months. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that construction workers out of work since the implementation of GRAP-3 in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, must be provided a subsistence allowance. Hearing the air pollution case, a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai also directed the governments of the aforesaid states to implement preventive measures to reduce air pollution and to ensure that their reviews are regularly conducted. In view of the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) III was implemented on November 11 across the national capital by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The measures aim to control emissions through stricter restrictions on construction, vehicular movement, and industrial operations. India News | Delhi Court Grants Permission for Further Investigation into Rape Allegations on Record Provided by Samir Modi

New Delhi [India], November 20 (ANI): The Saket District court has permitted Delhi police to conduct further investigation on the record provided by the businessman Samir Modi, while also deferring cognisance of chargesheet filed against the businessman regarding allegations of rape. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vinod Joshi on Wednesday allowed the application moved by the Investigation Officer (IO) for further investigation. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. The IO also sought time to file the supplementary record as per the directions of concerned court and the High Court of Delhi. "Considering the submissions and the orders of Hon'ble High Court of Delhi dated November 6 2025 and November 11, permission is granted," ACJM Joshi ordered on November 19. The matter has been listed on December 17 for filing of supplementary records. During the hearing, senior advocate Vikram Sharma along with advocate Siddharth Yadav appeared for Samir Modi. The counsels argued that the FIR is a counterblast to Samir Modi's complaint against the prosecutrix, which was filed prior to the registration of the FIR. The prosecutrix was demanding ₹15 crores. She gave threat of false implication if demand not fulfilled. Also Read | Nitish Kumar to Take Oath As Bihar CM for 10th Time at Gandhi Maidan; PM Narendra Modi to Attend Swearing-In Ceremony. The Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against Samir Modi in an alleged rape case. The Charge sheet has been filed before the Saket District court on November 7. An FIR under sections of rape and intimidation was lodged at the New Friends colony Police Station. Currently, Modi is on bail and has filed a petition for quashing of FIR lodged against him. It was submitted by the counsel for Samir Modi that police have not consider the documents provided by him before filing the chargesheet. "The grievance of the Petitioner is that despite the assurance, chargesheet has been filed without considering the documents furnished by him to the Investigating Officer," Justice Narula noted in the order of November 11. Samir Modi was arrested on September 18 after the complaint, and was granted bail on September 25. The Delhi High Court had issued a notice on November 6 on the plea of Samir Modi for quashing of FIR in an alleged rape case. During arguments, senior advocate N Hariharan had submitted that the matter is presently at the stage of investigation. He also submitted that the relationship between the Petitioner and the complainant was entirely consensual, and that there are several evidences which would substantiate this fact. He had further submitted that Investigating Officer is not even taking the same into consideration. After hearing the submissions, the bench had issued notice and Sanjay Lao, Standing counsel for State accepted the same. India News | Karnataka Announces Rs 5 Lakh Relief for Fatal Dog-bite Victims' Families; Rs 5,000 for Injured

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], November 20 (ANI): The Karnataka government has announced a compensation package for families affected by fatal dog-bite incidents and financial support for victims injured in stray dog attacks. According to the new directive, the families of individuals who die due to dog bites will receive Rs 5 lakh as compensation from the state government. Also Read | Donald Trump Jr to Visit Taj Mahal Today Along With 126 Special Guests From 40 Countries. The government has also detailed compensation for non-fatal injuries caused by stray dogs. Cases involving punctures on the skin, deep black bruising with punctures and lacerations or multiple-bite attacks by stray dogs will be paid a total compensation of Rs 5,000. Of this amount, Rs 3,500 will be paid directly to the victim, and Rs 1,500 will go to the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust to cover treatment-related expenses. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday expressed concern over the alarming rise in the number of dog bites and rabies-related deaths in Tamil Nadu. Quoting data, Chidambaram stated that the state has recorded approximately 5.25 lakh dog bite cases and 28 deaths due to rabies this year alone. Also Read | Nitish Kumar to Take Oath As Bihar CM for 10th Time at Gandhi Maidan; PM Narendra Modi to Attend Swearing-In Ceremony. In a post on X, Chidambaram said, "According to a newspaper report, Tamil Nadu recorded 5,25,000 cases of dog bites this year (so far) and 28 deaths due to rabies." "Dog lovers' concerns are valid but they should also consider the alarming data. Being a dog lover is not antagonistic to support sequestering stray dogs, sterilising them, and vaccinating them", the post further read. He further stated that the Supreme Court has directed the release of vaccinated dogs back into their habitats, except in certain public places. Chidambaram urged dog lovers to support and aid in implementing the Court's directives, emphasising that these measures are designed to ensure the safety of street users, particularly children, women, and senior citizens. "The Supreme Court has directed the release of the vaccinated dogs in their old habitats (except in some public places). There is no attempt to eliminate stray dogs. Dog lovers must support and help in the implementation of the Court-directed measures. They are for the safety of street-users especially children, women and senior citizens," the post concluded. Chidambaram's remarks come following the Supreme Court, while taking into consideration the "alarming rise of dog bite incidents", ordered all states and Union Territories (UTs) to ensure the removal of all stray dogs from every educational institution, hospital, public sports complexes, bus stands, railway stations, etc. The dogs will not return to their respective areas after the sterilisation. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria stated that all these institutions and places must be properly fenced to prevent the entry of stray dogs. The stray dogs should not be released to the same spot from which they were picked up, the bench ordered. It also said that permitting their return would "frustrate the very purpose" of securing such premises and addressing public safety concerns. "They will not be released back in the same area since releasing them back will frustrate the very purpose of the directive of the court," said the bench. It will be the responsibility of the concerned local government institutions to collect stray dogs from such institutions/areas and transfer them to designated dog shelters after vaccination and sterilisation in accordance with the Animal Birth Control Rules, the bench directed. Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories shall ensure strict compliance with the order; otherwise, officers will be held personally responsible, it said. Smoking rate falls 31%, SSM data shows

The Health Bureau (SSM) announced that Macau has achieved a significant public health milestone by meeting and exceeding the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 2025 target for reducing tobacco use well ahead of schedule. According to data released by the bureau, the smoking rate among residents aged 15 and above has dropped from 16.9% before the implementation of the Tobacco Control Law to 11.6% in 2023. This represents a relative decrease of 31.4%, surpassing the WHO’s global target of a 30% relative reduction in tobacco use by 2025. The announcement was made as the bureau concurrently marked World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day, with this year’s theme, “Short of Breath? Think COPD,” to underscore the link between smoking and the respiratory disease. This significant reduction in smoking is the result of over a decade of comprehensive tobacco control measures implemented under the Tobacco Control Law that took effect on January 1, 2012. The government’s multi-pronged strategy has integrated stringent legislation, consistent enforcement, public education campaigns, and the promotion of smoking cessation services through a “frontline-focused” and “resource-decentralized” approach. In a strategic move to counter new public health threats, the Tobacco Control Law was revised in 2022 to impose a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, distribution, sale, import, and export of e-cigarettes, also prohibiting their carrying in and out of Macau. This preemptive action has been crucial in preventing a rise in nicotine use among youth through e-cigarette and tobacco products. Alongside these regulatory measures, the SSM’s smoking cessation services have provided critical support for residents. Since the establishment of Smoking Cessation Consultation Clinics across all Health Centres in 2006, the program has offered free, dedicated support from healthcare staff. The demand for these services remains strong, with the clinics recording approximately 1,970 patient visits in the first ten months of this year alone. COPD remains a pressing global health concern and is the world’s fourth leading cause of death, responsible for approximately 3.5 million fatalities in 2021, accounting for about 5% of global mortality. Health authorities stress that smoking cessation is not only the most effective way to prevent COPD but also the most cost-efficient intervention for managing the disease. Residents seeking to quit are encouraged to utilize available resources, including referrals at local Health Centres, making an appointment via the “My Health” section in the One Account app, or by calling the dedicated hotline at 2848 1238 during office hours.
