Paulo Dybala Ends Drought As Roma Edge Sassuolo To Move Second In Serie A

Paulo Dybala scored his first Serie A goal of the season to give Roma a 1-0 victory at Sassuolo on Sunday to lift them level with leaders Napoli. Roma moved to 18 points alongside the champions. After 16 minutes Dybala set up Bryan Cristante for a shot. When Arijanet Muric saved, Dybala pounced to put the rebound into the empty net. It was the Argentinian's 130th Serie A goal but his first from open play since last December. "These are three important points," said Dybala. "We knew we could move into first place before this match, but we're not getting carried away. The championship is still very long." Under Gian Piero Gasperini, who took over in July, Roma have become stingy in defence but are struggling to score. In eight games they have conceded three goals -- two fewer than any other team -- while scoring only eight. Roma sit second because their goal difference is two worse than Napoli, who beat fourth-placed Inter Milan 3-1 on Saturday. All four of their defeats this season have come at home, including a loss to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday and against Inter Milan in Serie A last Saturday. "I'm very satisfied because the team reacted well after two defeats this week," sid Gasperini. "The priority now is to win again at home. We have to reward our fans. At home, we have to be more effective." AC Milan, held to a 2-2 draw by Pisa on Friday at the San Siro, dropped to third, a point behind. Later on Sunday, Juventus, who have not won since September 13, visit Lazio in Rome.(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)

Tua Tagovailoa's swollen eye sparks concern after Dolphins QB woke up with mystery illness on day of Falcons game READ MORE: NFL looking into Ravens after team correct Lamar Jackson's injury By OLIVER SALT, US ASSISTANT SPORTS EDITOR Published: 18:07 GMT, 26 October 2025 | Updated: 18:23 GMT, 26 October 2025 Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is sporting a gruesome swollen eye after waking up with a mystery illness on the day of their game against the Atlanta Falcons. Hours before their clash with the Falcons, the Dolphins added Tagovailoa to their injury report with an illness but did not give him an injury designation, meaning he was still able to start at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Yet as he took the field, fans spotted that the 27-year-old has been left with a significantly swollen left eye. It is unclear what type of illness Tagovailoa is battling, but it didn't prevent him from finding De'Von Achane in the end zone for a first-quarter touchdown. Nevertheless, fans were left concerned after spotting his swollen eye in Sunday's game. 'Why is he even playing? Wtf,' one user wrote on X. After their recent defeat to the Cleveland Browns, Tagovailoa said: 'I think with that, some of it has to do with being able to see guys with their guys also up front and our guys. 'I’m not the tallest guy in the back there either, so being able to see and then sometimes when that happens, you don’t want to just throw it blindly.' The Dolphins have endured a miserable start to the season, going 1-6 in their first seven games to leave head coach Mike McDaniel under serious pressure. Tagovailoa has thrown 10 interceptions this season, tied with Las Vegas quarterback Geno Smith for the most in the NFL, and he is on pace to surpass the career-high 14 picks he threw in 2023. The struggling quarterback has completed 139 of 205 passes for 1,313 yards this season, but has appeared to regress from his 2023 form, when he threw for a career and league-best 4,624 yards. McDaniel has expressed overwhelming confidence in Tagovailoa since becoming Miami's coach in 2022, but he recently emphasized the need for his play to improve. Despite his struggles amid a 1-6 start, the Dolphins coach indicated Wednesday that there's no strain in their relationship. 'We had a great hour-and-a-half meeting yesterday,' McDaniel said. 'We had a great hour meeting the day before, as Tua and I have always operated. 'I think there's zero uncertainty with Tua on my conviction in him and my belief in him. We're both very eager to do better at our jobs, and we're both very committed and trusting of each other to respond to what is necessary for the team to do better.' Face of ‘devil monster’ who raped, tortured and killed 12-year-old girl in crime that shocked France

Dahbia Benkired (L) inflicted ‘extreme cruelty’ on 12-year-old Lola Daviet (R) in October 2022 Dahbia Benkired has become the first woman in France to receive the nation’s harshest sentence — life in prison without parole — for raping, torturing, and murdering a 12-year-old girl. The family of victim Lola Daviet described Benkired, 27, as a ‘devil monster’ for the ‘extreme cruelty’ inflicted upon the young girl. Lola’s body was found inside a suitcase in the lobby of her Paris apartment in October 2022. Her legs, feet, wrists, and face were bound with tape and she had at least 38 stab wounds across her body. Delphine Daviet, Lola’s mother, was in floods of tears as she faced her daughter’s murderer in court on Wednesday. She said: ‘Before this tragedy, we had a very simple family life, very attentive to one another.’ The family’s lives were changed forever when Lola was abducted from her apartment block on October 14, 2022. Delphine’s final words to her daughter as she kissed her goodbye were, ‘See you later.’ It was the last time she would see her daughter alive. Lola’s brother and mother heading into the trial of Dahbia Benkired who raped, tortured and murdered their beloved family member (Picture: Florian/ABACA/Shutterstock) The tragedy for the Daviet family did not end with Lola. Her father, Johan Daviet, 49, died in February last year – his death was caused by heavy drinking in the aftermath of his daughter’s attack. Delphine said: ‘He drank from morning to night. He died of grief, devastated by his demons.’ Before his death, Johan left a letter on the door of the apartment belonging to Benkired, where she raped, tortured and murdered his daughter. He wrote: ‘My darling, I still don’t understand why there was so much cruelty and barbarity towards you, you who were so kind. ‘I can’t wait to see you again.’ The note was signed: ‘You dad, who loves you for life.’ Benkired, who had been homeless at the time and was reportedly earning money as a prostitute, forced Lola to perform a sex act on her before partially severing her head and stuffing her body into a suitcase. In court on Wednesday, Benkired revealed that Lola had begged the woman not to hurt her before being led into her apartment. On the day of the attack, Benkired argued with her ex-partner – it had angered her so much that she wanted to hurt someone. The court heard: ‘I wanted to hurt him, but not little Lola. He hurt me so much that I wanted revenge, I hated him,’ she said. ‘I love him very much, but I wanted to hurt him. He had a gun at home, I was planning to shoot him, but not to kill him’. Just 15 minutes after the argument, Benkired crossed paths with Lola as she was coming home from school. A woman takes a picture of Lola’s painting portrait during the march to pay tribute to the girl in the 19th district in Paris (Picture: BERTRAND GUAY/AFP via Getty Images) As Lola kindly helped Benkired carry her suitcases upstairs, it was at that moment that she decided she was going to harm the young girl. Once Lola was in Benkired’s home, she asked her to undress and take a shower – the court heard. The murderer went on to explain how she sexually assaulted Lola and ‘slammed her head against the shower wall’ with her hand. Benkired said: ‘In the shower, for me, she turned into a ghost. She said nothing; she didn’t talk. ‘I was told that when I taped her up, she was still alive. For me, she was dead.’ Benkired also ‘started to slap her’ because she was ‘afraid she would tell her family. All the hatred I had inside me, I took it out on her… Either way, I knew she was going to die. ‘It’s not that I wanted to kill her, but that I wanted to hurt someone. But since I had raped her, I might as well kill her,’ Benkired said. After minutes of agony, Lola died from suffocation, with her body also showing signs of knife mutilation. The Attorney General on Friday said: ‘There are a multitude of wounds on Lola’s body, at least 38. At least two blows with scissors perforated the rib cage, causing unimaginable suffering.’ Images of Lola’s injuries, including traumatic genital injuries, during Monday’s hearing forced several family members out of the room. The medical examiner’s report stated that the 12-year-old victim was ‘vaginally and anally penetrated’ while she was still alive. Shocking CCTV shows moment 27-year-old Algerian migrant allegedly opens the suitcase she had stuffed the murdered child inside in busy Paris bar (Picture: Paris Assize Court / Le Parisien) CCTV footage showed the moment Benkired opened a suitcase containing Lola’s body just hours after the murder in a bar on Rue Manin. A pair of scissors, an oyster knife and an IKEA knife were found in her flat with traces of blood. Before her guilty verdict, Benkired, an Algerian migrant who has outstayed her student visa, asked for forgiveness. Crowds outside the trial were not willing to forgive as they called for her to receive the death penalty. As Lola’s devastated mother and brother sobbed in an embrace in the courthouse, the judge said: ‘This decision will not give you back Lola. However, we hope that it will be a step in your recovery process.’ Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk. For more stories like this, check our news page.

Pakistan Coach Mike Hesson Backs Babar Azam's Return For South Africa T20Is

Pakistan coach Mike Hesson has thrown his support behind Babar Azam's return to the T20 squad, as the three-match series against South Africa starts in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Azam, 31, has been recalled for the first time since December last year, having previously been dropped due to concerns over his strike rate in the format. But Hesson believes the timing is right for the batsman to make his comeback. "Yes, I certainly endorse his selection," Hesson said on Sunday. "We have rested Fakhar Zaman for this series, so it was a good opportunity to bring back Azam and I am confident he will do well." Azam, who captained Pakistan across all formats before stepping down in October 2024, is on the verge of a major milestone. He needs just nine runs to surpass India's Rohit Sharma as the leading run-scorer in T20 internationals. Sharma currently has 4,231 runs from 159 matches, while Azam sits at 4,223 from 128 games. Hesson, who took charge of the team in May, sees Azam's return as a strategic move ahead of next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. "Azam is likely to bat at number three and it is a role that I am confident that he will be able to do well and give us some options coming into the World Cup," he said. Despite South Africa missing several key players, Hesson remains cautious about the threat they pose. "Look, the squad that South Africa put together is a very dangerous side and we are wary of that," he said, referring to the team captained by Donovan Ferreira. South Africa will be without key batsman David Miller, who was ruled out due to a hamstring injury, and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee, sidelined with a pectoral muscle issue. Opener Aiden Markram and paceman Kagiso Rabada have also been rested for the series. The final two matches of the series will be played in Lahore on Friday and Saturday.(This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)

Joel Embiid finally addresses suggestion Philadelphia 76ers thrive more without him

Embiid has started the season with a negative plus/minus in both of the 76ers’ games. He finished -16 against Boston and -2 against Charlotte, while the team held positive margins during his time off the floor. Overall, the 31-year-old sits at a minus-18 so far, compared to Philadelphia’s plus-23 when he is not on the court. After the latest game, Embiid was asked about those numbers and whether he was concerned by how well the team had played without him in these first two outings. “It’s been 12 years, so I’ll take it. Keep it going. Obviously, the most important games are the best games and the playoffs. “If that’s the effort we’re going to have when I’m not on the floor, amen. It’s been a long time.” The Philadelphia 76ers might be more competitive than expected The Sixers have struggled in past seasons whenever Embiid has not been available, which is not surprising given how many games he has missed through injuries over his career. At 31, it is likely Embiid will not feature in back-to-back fixtures this year, so their ability to pick up wins without him will be crucial if they want to stay near the top of their conference standings. The Sixers also still need to get Paul George and Jared McCain healthy before they are fully settled into their regular rotation for head coach Nick Nurse. With the return of those two players, the Sixers will boast one of the deepest rosters in the league, making them a potentially formidable playoff contender.

BIG setback for Pakistan economy as major companies exit country due to…; top names include Microsoft, Shell, Telenor, benefit for India because…

Pakistan economy: Top multinational corporations including big names like Microsoft Shell TotalEnergies Telenor and Pfizer have shut their operations in Pakistan during recent years dealing a severe blow to the countrys already struggling economy. According to a recent report major global businesses have exited Pakistan over the past few years at a time when top MNCs are expanding operations in India. What caused exodus of foreign companies from Pakistan? As per a report in Japanese daily Sankei Shimbun global firms are steadily withdrawing from Pakistan due to a multitude of factors including the countrys failing economy business culture regulatory environment and institutional stability. The steady exodus of foreign companies from Pakistan showcases low investor confidence in the country due to lack of long-term policies and transparent regulations the report stated. According to Professor Pema Gyalpo a visting professor at the Takushoku University and an Emeritus Professor of Gifu Womens University Pakistan economy in a state of disrepair and is now unable to attract global investors as they are apprehensive about Islamabads economic prospects primarily due to the nature of governance or lack thereof in the South Asian country. Which companies have exited Pakistan? Among the companies which have winded up operations in Pakistan due to the above mentioned factors top names like Microsoft Shell TotalEnergies Telenor and Pfizer stand out a clear sign that even major firms are unwilling to risk investing in the country. In 2024 Pfizer ended its local production in Pakistan selling its Karachi manufacturing plant to Lucky Core Industries while British oil and gas giant Shell pulled out a year earlier after selling it stake to Saudi Arabias Wafi Energy in 2023. Similarly energy major TotalEnergies sold its stake Singapore-based Gunvor Group while Telenor has worked out a deal to sell its Pakistan operations to Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited though the process is stalled due to delays in regulatory approvals. Earlier this year in July Microsoft quietly shuttered its operations in Pakistan while Procter & Gamble recently announced the closure of its manufacturing and commercial operations in the country. Why foreign firms exodus reflects Pakistans systemic crisis? According to industry experts the mass exodus of foreign firm from every sector ranging from consumer goods to energy pharmaceuticals telecom and tech is a reflection of deepening systemic crisis in Pakistan and shows how Islamabads problems arent limited to a single sector. Experts point out issues like high electricity costs frequent power cuts weak infrastructure and administrative delays that have further added to the woes of Pakistans dilapidated business environment prompting companies to shut operations due to low profit margins and lack of trust in the system. This isnt just an economic decision for foreign companies but also reflects a lack of trust in the system. Frequent policy changes and delays in government approvals have left companies frustrated says Saad Amanullah Khan former CEO of Gillette Pakistan. How Pakistans decline benefits India? Meanwhile as corporations are withdrawing from Pakistan India is rapidly emerging as a global investment hub due to various factors such as strong economic growth a growing middle class digital infrastructure and easy policies for investors. According to official figures India attracted a whopping $81 billion in foreign investment in the 2024-25 fiscal year as global firms continued expansion of their operation in the country. Experts believe Indias regulatory framework and political stability have fostered a trustworthy environment for global investors resulting in giants like Apple Amazon and Google to rapidly expand their operations in the country while major firms are exiting Pakistan.

On Voter Roll Revision, MK Stalin Asks Cadre To Be Cautious At Every Booth

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin has accused the BJP-AIADMK alliance of attempting to win elections through the Special Intensive Revision or SIR by allegedly removing the names of working-class people, minorities, Scheduled Castes, and women from the voters' list - a move he said "will not work in Tamil Nadu".In a letter to DMK cadres, Stalin urged them to remain cautious at every polling booth to ensure that people's voting rights are protected. The Chief Minister also invited all levels of DMK functionaries to attend a special session titled "My Polling Booth, Winning Booth", scheduled to be held at Mahabalipuram on October 28. The session aims to strengthen booth-level operations ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, and will be chaired by Stalin himself. In his letter, Stalin alleged that the BJP is trying to implement SIR to "snatch voter rights.""The BJP-AIADMK combine is trying to win elections through SIR. They are attempting to remove the names of working-class people, minorities, Scheduled Castes, and women. DMK has opposed SIR and has approached the Election Commission. We are ready to support democratic electoral rolls and fight both legally and with the people," Stalin said.He further directed DMK cadres to remain vigilant in every booth. "On SIR, party cadres should act cautiously. It is their duty to ensure people's voting rights in every constituency," he said. The BJP, however, has defended the SIR initiative, contending that it is aimed at removing IDs that are duplicate or that of the deceased.

Huge Hollywood star would ‘rather die’ than use AI in movies

Guillermo del Toro has absolutely no desire to start using AI in his films (Picture: Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images for AFI) Guillermo del Toro had a savage response when quizzed on his thoughts about using AI in his movies. The esteemed director is no stranger to a visual challenge when it comes to filmmaking, having forged huge success in the horror and fantasy genres, often blending his stories with gothicism and fairy tale. His most famous work includes the 13-time Oscar-nominated The Shape of Water (2017), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), The Devil’s Backbone (2001), and Crimson Peak (2015), to name just a few. The 61-year-old’s latest project is an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 Frankenstein novel, with Oscar Isaac starring as the egotistical scientist while Jacob Elordi embodies his monstrous creation. Ahead of its Netflix release next month after a theatre run, del Toro has given his frank thoughts on artificial intelligence… admitting that he’d rather ‘die’ than use it to bring his characters to life. Speaking to NPR, del Toro aptly compared the recent fascination with generative AI, which, in short, is a type of AI that can create new content and ideas, such as conversations, videos, and music, to the ‘arrogance’ displayed in the Frankenstein story. The Frankenstein (2025) director is no stranger to a sci-fi challenge (Picture: AP) ‘AI, particularly generative AI—I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested,’ he declared. ‘I’m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. ‘The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, “What is your stance on AI?” And my answer was very short. I said, “I’d rather die”.’ He also said, rather poetically: ‘My concern is not artificial intelligence, but natural stupidity. I think that’s what drives most of the world’s worst features.’ Likening Victor to the ‘tech bros’ of today, del Toro explained: ‘He’s kind of blind, creating something without considering the consequences, and I think we have to take a pause and consider where we’re going.’ Indeed, AI has fuelled some fiery debates in Hollywood this year, most recently sparking outrage with the creation of a virtual actress. He famously directed The Shape of Water, which was nominated for 13 Oscars and highly praised for its visuals (Picture: 20th Century Fox) To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page Named Tilly Norwood, the brunette character quickly caught the eye of talent agents, who were keen to hire her for their projects. She was even hailed as ‘the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman’, while led to major names in the industry hitting out and expressing their anger. One of those stars was Emily Blunt, who reacted in terror after being shown a video of ‘Tilly’, who boasts her own social media presence. ‘That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed,’ the A Quiet Place actress responded on a Variety podcast. ‘That is really, really scary. Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.’ All of the criticism caused the creator of Tilly to retaliate, insisting that the digital actress is not a ‘replacement’ for a human being. The 61-year-old would ‘rather die’ than use generative AI to bring his characters to life (Picture: Ken Woroner/Netflix) Comment nowWhat are your thoughts on AI being used in films?Comment Now However, this didn’t stop other TV and film stars from speaking their minds, with Melissa Barrera calling the whole thing ‘gross’, and Matilda actress Mara Wilson raising the point: ‘And what about the hundreds of living young women whose faces were composited together to make her? You couldn’t hire any of them?’ At least fans of del Toro can rest assured that his films will long remain AI-free, a stance that has definitely paid off as far as feedback of his version of Frankenstein is concerned. Metro‘s Film Expert Tori Brazier gave the film a respectable four-star review, praising: ‘I doubt Netflix will ever get to own a movie as truly epic, imaginative, and cinematic as this again.’ Over on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Frankenstein has already earned an impressive 86% from critics, while audience reviews sit at a near-perfect 95%, with comments lauding del Toro’s ability to create ‘cinematic magic’. Also starring Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Ralph Ineson, Frankenstein will be available to stream on Netflix from November 7. Got a story?
