Packers’ Jordan Love reveals what he, Aaron Rodgers still text about

The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet Sunday night in one of the most anticipated games of the 2025 NFL season, as Aaron Rodgers faces the Packers franchise he once defined and the young quarterback who replaced him, Jordan Love. While Rodgers has moved on, now leading the Steelers to a 4-2 start, his connection to Green Bay remains strong. That includes an ongoing friendship with Love, the player once viewed as his successor and now a leader in his own right. Love, drafted 26th overall in 2020, spent three seasons learning behind Rodgers and said their bond has carried on beyond the trade that sent Rodgers to the Jets in 2023. “We shoot each other a text every now and then,” Love recently shared. “A lot of it is just saying good luck throughout the season. A-Rod texted me and was talking about some of the plays we’d run and some of my footwork, things like that, complimenting me, so obviously it’s great to be able to hear from him. I’ve got so much respect for him, and any time he gives me pointers, stuff like that, obviously, you want to get feedback from a legend like that.” The respect these two Packers legends share is genuine Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK The mutual respect between the two is genuine. Rodgers said his admiration for Green Bay and its fans remains as deep as ever, confirming that when he retires, he will do so as a Packer. “I was there for 18 years,” Rodgers said. “Regardless of when I hang it up, that’s the bulk of my career. I’ll retire a Packer and see what happens after that.” Love, meanwhile, continues to grow into his own legacy. Through six games, the Packers stand at 4-1-1 with Love at the helm, matching Rodgers’ early-season success in Pittsburgh. The two quarterbacks’ careers, once intertwined by controversy, now reflect mutual growth and respect. As the Packers travel to Pittsburgh, the meeting will be more than a game between mentor and student. It will be a full-circle moment for two quarterbacks forever bound by Green Bay’s lineage. One representing its past, and the other shaping its future.

China gives Japan’s new prime minister Sanae Takaichi the cold shoulder

China has held off on congratulating Japan’s new prime minister nearly a week after her appointment, a break with precedent that sends alarm about the state of relations between the two countries. China hawk Sanae Takaichi, 64, took office on Tuesday, becoming the first woman prime minister in the country’s history and the fifth person to hold the office in five years. She took over from Shigeru Ishiba, who was congratulated by both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang on the day he assumed office in October last year. Beijing also sent immediate congratulatory messages to former Japanese leader Fumio Kishida when he was elected in October 2021, and Yoshihide Suga when he took office in September 2020. Asked on Thursday whether Beijing would congratulate Takaichi, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said: “China made proper arrangements according to diplomatic practices.” “China and Japan are each other’s close neighbours. China’s fundamental position on its relations with Japan is consistent and clear,” Guo added. “We hope Japan and China will meet each other halfway … honour its political commitments on major issues concerning history and Taiwan, uphold the political foundation of the bilateral relationship, and fully advance the China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit.” Guo’s comment echoed a statement on Tuesday when he said, “China noted the result of the vote and considers it Japan’s internal affair”. A former internal affairs minister known for her conservative views, Takaichi was chosen to lead Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party earlier this month in a run-off vote against more moderate candidate Shinjiro Koizumi. Some observers have warned that tensions between Beijing and Tokyo might escalate under Takaichi’s administration, citing her controversial positions on Taiwan and Japanese wartime history. Takaichi has strongly advocated for the prime minister to visit the controversial Yasukuni Shrine honouring Japan’s war dead. Visits to the shrine by politicians anger Chinese because of Japan’s 1931 invasion and occupation of China and the atrocities its troops committed there. Takaichi’s engagement with Taiwanese officials has also drawn criticism from Beijing. In April, Takaichi met Taiwanese leader William Lai Ching-te in Taipei, where she called for cooperation on defence aimed at “maintaining our security guarantees”. She also met Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung in Japan in July. Beijing sees Taiwan as part of China, to be reunited by force if necessary. Japan and most other countries, including the United States, do not recognise self-governed Taiwan as independent, but Washington is opposed to any attempt to take the island by force and is committed to arming it for defence. Relations between China and Japan have long been dogged by territorial disputes, wartime history and the complexities of Tokyo’s alliance with Washington. Despite recent efforts to deepen economic cooperation and promote people-to-people exchanges, ties remain largely strained, especially on the security front. Those tensions are likely to persist, with Takaichi pledging in her first policy speech on Friday to accelerate a defence spending target by two years. The Chinese foreign ministry said this commitment added to regional doubts about Japan’s defence policy. “In recent years, Japan has been drastically readjusting its security policy, increasing defence spending year after year, relaxing restrictions on arms exports and seeking military breakthroughs,” Guo said. “Japan’s neighbouring countries in Asia and beyond have to strongly call into question its commitment to the exclusively defence-oriented policy and the path to peaceful development.”

Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon drops a bar after Dunk of the Year submission

Aaron Gordon turned back the clock and delivered another reminder of why he’s one of the best dunkers the NBA has ever seen. During Saturday night’s Denver Nuggets matchup against the Phoenix Suns, Gordon threw down a jaw-dropping 360 dunk that immediately sent NBA fans into a frenzy, and his postgame reaction was pure gold. When asked about the play, Gordon laughed and said, “I was trying to get on Top 10. ESPN. Da na na, da na na.” "I was trying to get on Top 10. ESPN. Da na na, da na na." Aaron Gordon with an all-time quote when asked about his 360 dunk 😆 pic.twitter.com/2Zg6v1zhQp https://t.co/wNNv4E4vUG — ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) October 26, 2025 That single line perfectly captured both the swagger and self-awareness that have defined Gordon’s career. The dunk itself looked straight out of his 2016 and 2020 Dunk Contest highlight reels, the same creativity and aerial control that once had fans begging for him to take home the trophy. While the dunk stole the spotlight, Gordon’s overall performance showed how much he has evolved beyond being just a high-flyer. He finished the night with 17 points, three steals, two rebounds, and an assist, shooting 5-of-11 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. His energy on both ends of the court fueled Denver’s intensity in a strong win over Phoenix. Meanwhile, Nikola Jokić continued his usual brilliance with his second triple-double of the season, posting 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 15 assists despite a quiet scoring night. Jamal Murray added 23 points and six rebounds. Murray also shot from half-court at the end of the first quarter, which had the fans in disbelief. Meanwhile, Christian Braun impressed off the ball with 20 points on 60% shooting. Gordon, who dropped 50 points in his season debut against the Warriors earlier this week, has wasted no time proving that he’s more than a role player next to Jokić and Murray; he’s Denver’s heartbeat. His blend of athleticism, defense, and charisma gives the Nuggets an emotional edge few teams can match. And if Gordon keeps delivering highlights like this? Expect more “Da na na, da na na” moments on ESPN, and perhaps another deep playoff run for the defending champs.

Israel says to determine which international forces are unacceptable for Gaza

“We control our own security and we have made clear to international forces that Israel will decide which forces are unacceptable to us — and that is how we act and will continue to act,” Netanyahu stated at the outset of a cabinet meeting. “This is, of course, accepted by the United States, as its most senior representatives expressed in recent days,” he added. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that U.S. officials are getting input on a possible United Nations resolution or international agreement to authorize a multinational force in Gaza and will discuss the issue in Qatar. “Many of the countries that have expressed an interest in participating at some level — whether it be monetary or personnel or both — are going to need that (a UN resolution or international agreement) because their domestic laws require it,” Rubio told reporters traveling on his plane between Israel and Qatar en route to Asia. “So we have a whole team working on that outline of it.” The administration of President Donald Trump wants Arab states to contribute funds and troops for a multinational force to keep the peace in Gaza. Israel has dismissed the idea of Turkish troops participating. Rubio stated on Friday during a visit to Israel that an international security troops to be put in place in the Gaza Strip under a ceasefire accord will have to be made up of countries that Tel Aviv is “comfortable with”. Rubio said that the future of governance in Gaza still needs to be worked out among Israel and partner nations but could not include Hamas, adding that any potential role for the Palestinian Authority has yet to be determined. The first phase of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire deal was reached on Oct. 10. Since the ceasefire took effect, the Israeli army has committed 80 violations, killing 97 Palestinians. Phase one includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas. Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed over 68,200 people and injured more than 170,300, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Cake picnic brings bakers together in Kumasi

The first-ever cake picnic has been held in Kumasi, bringing together 25 local bakers to showcase their skills and learn from each other. The event was organised by Inna’s Kitchen, SAR Consult, and Yummy Bakes to promote creativity, teamwork, and professional growth among bakers in the city. Participants displayed a variety of cakes, including wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and chocolate cakes. The event created a platform for bakers to share ideas and experiences while networking with other professionals in the industry. According to the organisers, the Cake Picnic aims to support young people and women in the community by helping them develop their baking and customer service skills. The programme was led by Saddick Abdul Razack, Director of SAR Consult, Fati Adam, CEO of Inna’s Kitchen, and Hummu Jamal Ramart of Yummy Bakes. The organisers said they hope to make the event an annual one to help bakers grow sustainable businesses. CEO of Inna’s Kitchen, Fati Adam, said the event provided an opportunity for bakers to share ideas, knowledge, and skills. “It is important to come together as bakers to share knowledge, create opportunities, and help those who are vulnerable,” she said. “When we support each other, we grow together.” The CEO of SAR Consult, who trained participants on customer communication, said customer care is key to business success. “It is more expensive to look for new customers than to keep old ones,” he said. “Some customers need extra care. To give that care, you must have patience and go beyond their expectations. Be friendly, professional, and respectful to grow your business.” Dr. Yoshana Adjei, one of the participants, said the Cake Picnic gave bakers a bigger platform to socialise and learn from one another. “I learnt how to manage customers, face challenges, and still make sure they are satisfied,” she said. Another participant, Zainab Nuhu, said the engagement taught her new ways to handle customers better. “We have customers who are sometimes difficult to deal with. I learnt how to listen, apologise, solve their problems, and thank them after,” she said. The event brought a renewed sense of teamwork and purpose among the bakers, who promised to apply what they had learnt to improve their businesses and customer relationships. Organisers say future editions of the Cake Picnic will include training in marketing, packaging, and business management to help small baking businesses grow. Council to reintroduce CCTV to stop illegal dumping across Cork

Councillors were informed of the move at a meeting of the Fermoy municipal district council. It came after Independent councillor William O’Leary asked that councillors seek an update from senior officials in the council’s environment directorate as to when the use of CCTV would be permitted at so-called "bring sites". Mr O’Leary said such equipment was in place at some of these sites up until 2019, but it was discontinued due to issues with data protection and who was allowed to view and store the footage. He said he believed legislation is now in place to cover its control and roll-out again. Mr O’Leary said that, since the system's shutdown six years ago, there had been a noticeable increase in people dumping household waste at the sites. He welcomed their reintroduction, but said he was disappointed to learn the council is not considering using mobile CCTV units in known dumping spots in the countryside. Video evidence Catching the culprits is these cases is extremely hard without video evidence as they nearly always leave no documentation which could prove their involvement. Fine Gael councillor Kay Dawson said the reintroduction of CCTV would be welcome and those littering bring sites “should be caught and punished”. She added that council staff members are constantly having to clean up at these sites, as litter louts increasingly dump their rubbish outside recycling containers. She said this is costing the local authority a small fortune and diverting workers from other jobs they could be doing. Some leave bags of and boxes of bottles outside the containers when they are full, instead of coming back with them when they are empty. Independent councillor Peter O’Donoghue said he is very concerned that the council is not looking at the deployment of mobile CCTV units as there is significant illegal dumping taking place in rural woodland and forestry “because some people have no regard for our countryside”. Council officials explained that using mobile units would be problematic under new GDPR rules, although they did not comment on the exact nature of the difficulty. They said council bosses have set up a terms of reference oversight body which will administer the use and roll-out of CCTV and that the priority will be to have them in “fixed locations”.
