Ghana’s Foreign Ministry Pushes Digital Frontier with E-Visas

Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced on Tuesday that the country plans to implement electronic visas by 2026 to streamline the visa process and boost trade, diplomatic relations, and investment. Addressing attendees at the MOBEX Africa Tech Expo and Innovation Conference 2025 in Accra, Ablakwa explained that the e-visa initiative is part of the foreign ministry’s drive to modernize Ghana’s diplomatic services for the digital era. He stated that the e-visa system would simplify the process for investors, technologists, and business professionals to travel to and work in Ghana. Ablakwa also emphasized the ministry’s wider digital initiatives, such as introducing digital consular services for Ghanaians living abroad and conducting virtual diplomatic engagements to enhance reach and cut costs. Speaking on the conference theme, “Resetting Africa’s Digital Identity and Sovereignty,” He emphasized the importance of Africa harnessing technological opportunities and using digitalization as a driver for transformation. He added that the success of initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area would rely heavily on strong and reliable digital connectivity. To help close the digital divide, the ministry is working with its African counterparts to remove obstacles to cross-border digital services and promote the mutual recognition of digital credentials

Në raportet politike, ka rol delikat. Rezultatet janë, nuk mund të mohohet. Ka goditur edhe majtas, edhe djathas. Në njëfarë mënyre ka goditur më shumë pozitën. Pritshmëritë janë gjithmonë të larta. Kemi të bëjmë me një institucion drejtësie, që ka disa procedura, që duhet të respektojë ligjin. Duhet të kemi një institucion që të bëjë check and balance. MIIF partners Internal Audit Agency to strengthen audit response skills

The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and operational excellence with a two-day internal training programme. The training led by the Internal Audit Agency, forms part of MIIF’s institutional capacity-building framework and brought together staff across departments to deepen their understanding of audit processes and improve the quality and timeliness of responses to audit queries. In her opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of MIIF, Justina Nelson, underscored the importance of the training, noting that robust internal controls and sound audit practices are the backbone of every credible financial institution. “Accountability is not merely a word to us at MIIF. It is part of our core values; the very currency of public trust. Every decision we make, every cedi we manage, and every process we undertake must meet the highest standards on behalf of the people of Ghana,” she said. She further noted that the Fund’s ability to respond to audit queries clearly, promptly, and accurately reflects not only its technical competence but also its culture of transparency and integrity. She encouraged participants to actively engage in the training, share departmental experiences, and apply the lessons learned to strengthen MIIF’s institutional systems. Nelson commended the Internal Audit Department and facilitators of the training for their dedication and partnership in strengthening MIIF’s systems, noting that the Fund’s pursuit of excellence must remain uncompromising. “The systems we strengthen here will not only make our work more efficient, they will make MIIF stronger, more credible, and better positioned to fulfill our mandate,” she noted. Sustainable mining practices to protect Ghana’s ecosystem – MIIF CEO The Acting Director, Technical, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Internal Audit Agency, Senanu Mensah, who led the training sessions, cautioned public servants to be deliberate and precise in their audit responses. “In responding to audit queries, public servants must be guided by what they report, because they do not know where their responses will end up,” he added. Swan sparks rush-hour disruption at Scotland’s busiest railway station

Passengers faced major delays and cancellations to rush-hour rail services after a swan was found on the tracks of Scotland’s busiest railway station. Network Rail said a bird had been found on the high level of Glasgow Central at around 5.49pm. “We’re dealing with a swan on the tracks at Glasgow Central high-level station. Services to/from the station are being disrupted, but trains are still moving at a reduced speed,” the railway operator said. “Thanks for your patience if you’re affected. “We have a response team on site at Glasgow Central working to help retrieve the swan from the tracks as quickly as we can.” Network Rail posted a picture of the avian “culprit” just after 6pm, adding that its teams were “working to keep services moving and move the swan out of harm’s way”. Tokyo: On the second stop of his five-day Asia visit, US President Donald Trump met Japan's Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday. After the meeting, Trump described the Japanese monarch as "a great man." Trump's visit marked a renewed engagement with Japan's leadership amid his ongoing tour. Trump, dressed in a navy suit and gold tie, was warmly welcomed by Emperor Naruhito, who smiled and waved as the US leader arrived. The two shook hands and posed for photographers before entering the palace. The meeting took place inside a simple room with wooden furniture. The White House later shared a picture of their meeting on X. The meeting lasted for more than half an hour. Trump told reporters, "A great man," referring to the emperor, whom he had last met during a state visit in 2019 when he was hosted at a banquet, as per CNN.
