I drove the BMW M5 for a week — and it’s the reason why gas guzzling sport sedans have new life

Let me start off by saying that by no means would I ever want to buy a gas guzzler, especially having tested many of the best electric cars out there. But after spending a week of driving the 2025 BMW M5, it’s an excuse for anyone to drive a sports sedan with poor fuel economy. Why’s that? Well, that’s because of how it can tap into all-electric power as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). This isn’t my first rodeo testing one out, having just been impressed recently by the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid. Since it has a dedicated electric battery, the BMW M5 has a range of 25 miles using nothing but all-electric power. That’s important because it supplements its 14 mpg combined fuel economy, which can mean fewer gas fill ups in between. Even though the exact trim I drove comes in at a staggering $146,225 cost, it’s a luxury sports sedan that is a lot of fun and cool to drive. 2025 BMW M5: Specifications 2025 BMW M5: Testing summary I drove a total of 261.2 miles in my week’s worth of testing the 2025 BMW M5 Sedan, resulting in average fuel economy of 38.4 mpg. For the first two days, I made sure to use its all-electric power before defaulting back to gas-electric — so the results are a bit skewed. But despite this, it doesn’t come close to matching the fuel economy I’ve gotten with other PHEVs like the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, Kia Sportage PHEV, and Lexus RX450h+. Then again, the BMW M5 Sedan isn’t anything like those PHEVs because it’s really not trying to break records for efficiency or fuel economy. Performance, handling, and speed are top priorities for this sports sedan, but having that all-electric power is helpful to lessen the need to refill on gasoline. If you charge every night, you’ll have a full battery that’s capable of getting the M5 upwards of 25 miles according to BMW. In my testing, however, I found charging it came out to about 33 miles of range — which I’ve tested to be pretty accurate running through the all-electric range with one long distance drive. 2025 BMW M5: What I Like You get 33 miles of all-electric range This is without question the biggest selling point in my opinion about the 2025 BMW M5 Sedan. You wouldn’t catch me ever wanting to buy a gas guzzler that gets about 14 MPG combined fuel economy, but it does bring up the conversation about how gas-powered cars in general could get a new lease on life. Much like the other plug-in hybrids I’ve tested, I can lean on nothing but its all-electric power to save the gas for later on. And since it’s able to get back a full charge overnight through a standard 120V outlet, I’m not as concerned about the terrible fuel economy it gets. In fact, this is the kind of thing that could remold people’s misconceptions about EVs. Aggressive design meets shimmery paint job When I drove to the nearest convenience store with a gas station, one of the attendants stopped me as I was getting out of the M5 because he was so fixated on the paint job. Honestly, I felt the same way because the Sepia Metallic paint job looks muted at first, appearing all gray, but when the light hits it at just the right angle, it shimmers in gold. It’s a dazzling light show I’ll admit, which is made better by the sporty design language of the M5. The wider stance of the M5 paired with its low clearance to the ground distinctively gives it an aggressive stance. It brought out the youth in me that craved sporty styles all those years ago. Really, it’s luxury meets sporty at its finest. Tight steering and power when you need it The 2025 BMW M5 is one of the most fun rides I’ve had in the last year, just coming up short of the BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupe, Lucid Air Touring, and Mini Cooper Countryman EV on my list. Still, the 717 hp performance produced from its 4.4 liter M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine delivers outstanding response, which paired with a tight steering, makes it a breeze at rounding tight corners and getting to cruising speed. There’s an M1 boost button on the steering wheel that prepares a boost to enable maximum acceleration at 30 mph, which results in extra power when I need to accelerate. There are also the paddles on the steering wheel that lets me shift the gears manually, which sort of mimics an arcade style racing experience. Auto-dimming headlights I confess that BMW has some of the best looking lights around in its vehicles — like how the BMW iX grill lights up at night — and the M5 Sedan is no exception. While it has the same eye-catching lighting sequence whenever it’s unlocked with the key fob, I really love the tech behind how its headlights automatically dim. The high beams in particular really show off this process the best, as they slowly turn on when it senses there’s no vehicle in front of me. When it does sense one, it performs this breathing action that slowly brings down the light so they’re not blinded. It’s cool and works rather well in knowing then to turn on and off, so that’s one less thing I’m having to manage while driving. Smooth ADAS, slick looking HUD Naturally, a luxury vehicle at this price point comes with all the premium features you can think about. Two of the most notable include its smooth Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) called "Active Driving Assistant" that allows the vehicle to maintain cruise control speed, while applying the necessary braking, acceleration, and steering all on its own. There’s also an augmented view for navigation that overlays directions onto the live feed of the camera in the front of the M5, which is then shown on the driver’s display. There’s also the slick looking head-up display that’s projected into the windshield. Not only is it one of the sharpest I’ve come across, but it’s also one of the largest HUDs. Stepping inside of the BMW M5 is a journey to another world with the amount of ambient lights, large screens, and comfortable seats it has. One thing that stands out to me are the tiny air vents around the dashboard. I do appreciate the minimalist and clean look BMW’s aiming for, but it could’ve spared some room for more vents. The ones for the back seats are actually larger, so trying to cool myself down on a couple of warmer days took a while. 2025 BMW M5: What I Don't Like Terrible all-gas fuel economy Not surprisingly, I’m not much of a fan of its all-gas fuel economy, which is why I can’t stress enough about how its all-electric battery power can help offset things. After my second day of driving the 2025 BMW M5, I didn’t charge its battery and kept to nothing but gas power. That’s when I began to see my average fuel economy begin to dip, but you shouldn’t be shocked considering this is a performance vehicle. You’re not going to buy it for its fuel economy. That’s for sure. 2025 BMW M5: Bottom Line Like I’ve said earlier, there’s no way I would ever want to buy a gas guzzler — especially one that gets 14 mpg combined. Nor would I ever want to spend this much on any vehicle for that matter. But the 2025 BMW M5 Sedan does prove something that I’ve been a staunch supporter of: the need for more PHEVs. Despite the laughable fuel economy, the fact that it gets 33 miles of all-electric range breathes in new life to gas-powered cars. I’m not saying it’s going to be what drivers solely will rely on, but it certainly helps out in lessening the burden of buying gasoline. There are few sports sedans that’s this much fun to drive, but the combo of being able to use gas and electric power certainly helps in giving it a wider appeal outside of car enthusiasts. Man United handed new Casemiro goal verdict as Alan Shearer responds to Sean Dyche VAR point

Manchester United kept their unbeaten run going against Nottingham Forest – but the game was not without controversy. United were held to a 2-2 draw with Forest in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with Casemiro opening the scoring at the City Ground. Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona put the home side in front in the second half before Amad Diallo rescued a point for the Reds in the closing minutes. The stalemate saw United's run of three consecutive wins in the Premier League come to an end, as Ruben Amorim's side fell to seventh place in the table. The draw wasn't without its controversy, though, particularly with the opening goal from Casemiro . United were awarded a corner after the ball was judged to be out of play, although some replays suggest some part of the ball was still in play. The Reds went on to score from the corner with a Casemiro header, which led to plenty of frustration from Forest manager Sean Dyche and the home crowd. Dyche told BBC Sport after the game why he believes VAR could be introduced to check decisions such as corner kicks, which would have prevented United from having a chance to open the scoring. Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer, while believing that the ball did go out of play, disagreed with the need for VAR intervention. He said on Match of the Day: "Sean Dyche has got a point, I'm not sure how the assistant referee on the far side can actually see that far and be absolutely certain that the ball was out [of play]. Because it wasn't, it was nearly 70 yards away, so they can't be certain because the ball isn't out [of play]. "I agree with Sean, I understand his frustration and his anger, but I wouldn't say that we'd like to get VAR involved because the game his stopping and starting as it is. "I know he says it will only take four or five seconds, but I wouldn't encourage that. But I would encourage the officials to do their job properly and get it right and not guess, because they've guessed there and got it wrong." Effective implementation of scheme The Chief Minister recently launched the Thayumanavar Scheme, under which ration products are to be delivered at the doorsteps of senior citizens aged 70 and above, and differently abled persons. However, despite being 83 years old, I am yet to receive any such delivery. Since the age details of all cardholders are already available in the family card database, there should be no need for a separate application process. Insisting on fresh applications only adds to the hardship of senior citizens and defeats the purpose of the scheme. I appeal to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to direct officials to identify eligible beneficiaries from existing data and ensure doorstep delivery of ration items without delay. This would truly make the scheme a boon for the elderly. Asmabagh Anvardeen, Ramanathapuram Safety concern A large number of two-wheelers and autorickshaws coming from Malaikoil Road are seen entering the Palani bus terminus through its exit gate, instead of using the designated outer road to reach Railway Feeder Road. These vehicles move in the opposite direction through the first platform, where buses bound for Oddanchatram and Kanakkampatti are stationed, creating panic among passengers, especially the elderly, women, and children. Such reckless riding not only violates traffic norms but also endangers public safety. The traffic authorities must take stringent action against violators and impose hefty fines. Installation of a prominent “No Entry” board at the exit point of the terminus would also help prevent such repeated violations. M. Sainithii

Wordle Hints Today: Answer for November 2, 2025 — NYT Puzzle #1597 explained

TIL CreativesWordle Hints Today: Answer for November 2, 2025 — NYT Puzzle #1597 explained The New York Times’ globally popular puzzle Wordle returned on Sunday with another brain-teasing challenge. For those asking “did Wordle hints reveal an easy clue today?” — the answer is yes, though players still found the five-letter puzzle a test of both vocabulary and logic. What Is Wordle and Why It Continues to TrendWordle, a daily word puzzle now owned by The New York Times, continues to be one of the internet’s most played and shared games. Since its NYT release in October 2022, the game has maintained its simplicity — guess a five-letter word within six attempts using logic and deduction. The puzzle’s appeal lies in its structure. Each guess provides feedback:Green tiles confirm the letter and its correct position.Yellow tiles mean the letter exists in the word but is misplaced.Grey tiles rule out letters that are not part of the answer. This mechanism encourages analytical thinking while allowing players to test their linguistic instincts. Millions now begin their day with Wordle, sharing results and debating strategies across social media.Did Wordle Hints Give Away Today’s Answer? For puzzle #1597, many players found themselves searching “did Wordle hints make it too easy today?” The clues released earlier in the day certainly narrowed things down, as mentioned in a report by Beebom:Live EventsThe word starts with: “R”Vowel count: TwoDouble letters: NoneFinal hint: “A violent animal with a sickness.”These hints pointed directly toward the word RABID — a word meaning “affected with rabies” or “extremely fanatical.”The Wordle answer for November 2, 2025, puzzle #1597, is RABID.Understanding Today’s Wordle: “RABID"The word RABID is both literal and metaphorical. Literally, it refers to an animal infected with rabies, a deadly viral disease affecting mammals. Figuratively, it describes someone exhibiting extreme enthusiasm or irrational intensity — such as “rabid fans.”The difficulty level for today’s Wordle was rated easy, especially for players who began with vowel-rich starting words like ARISE, ADIEU, or RATIO. Once the “R” and “A” were revealed early, the rest of the puzzle came together quickly.Best Strategies to Tackle WordleSeasoned players know that strategy can make all the difference. Experts recommend:Start with balanced words — Those containing common vowels (A, E, I) and consonants (R, S, T, N, L).Observe color feedback carefully — Every guess eliminates possibilities; repeating eliminated letters is a common mistake.Experiment with vowels — If consonants don’t fit, try positioning the vowels differently.Don’t fear repetition — Though RABID didn’t contain double letters, past puzzles like MUMMY and SHEEP prove repetition can be crucial.Use Wordlebot analysis — The NYT’s Wordlebot evaluates your guesses, helping refine strategies for future rounds. How Wordle Keeps Its AppealEven after more than three years of daily puzzles, Wordle’s popularity remains undiminished. Its clean design, accessible gameplay, and social media shareability make it a staple of modern internet culture. Beyond English learners and casual players, linguists and educators have praised it for promoting vocabulary retention and pattern recognition. The game’s short format also provides an appealing cognitive break — a “coffee-break challenge” that refreshes the mind without requiring a long time commitment.FAQsWhat is the Wordle answer for November 2, 2025? The Wordle answer for Sunday, November 2, 2025 (puzzle #1597), is RABID.Did Wordle hints today make the puzzle easier? Yes. Rylan Clark says 'I've had loads of messages' as he shares update on mum Linda

Rylan Clark says he has had “loads of messages” from concerned fans after reading a “fake” news story about his mum Linda. The 37-year-old has starred alongside Linda on Celebrity Gogglebox and regularly speaks to her on his BBC Radio 2 show. During Rylan on Saturday, the star revealed he had received an outpouring of support from fans who believed Linda was unwell. He however told listeners that his mum was “absolutely fine”. He said: “I’ve had a load of messages today and yesterday. My mum’s absolutely fine and I think there’s a fake news site on Facebook saying that my mum’s not well or something. “She’s fine, she’s absolutely fine. She’s already been playing with the wheelie bins this morning. Thank you for the lovely messages but Linda is good.” Previously Rylan revealed he “would love” to do more work with Linda but says she is “not well enough”. Linda has severe Crohn’s disease, which has no cure, and in 2021 was diagnosed with skin cancer. Speaking to the Daily Star, Rylan said: “We’ve been offered hundreds of things. We got asked to do a travel show and the chance to go here and go there. “It would be hilarious, but she’s just not well enough to do it. Gogglebox is enough for us. She feels comfortable doing that show because we’re just sat in my kitchen." Rylan recently admitted he was “so proud” of Linda after she was booked to cut the ribbon on a Christmas grotto at her local garden centre. Rylan shared a snap of Linda alongside Santa and a shop worker from the garden centre. Rylan said in view of his millions of followers: "My mum was asked to open the Christmas grotto at our local garden centre where she goes all the time and genuinely I’ve never been more proud. He then added: "LOOK AT HER!" along with three love heart emojis before the comments came flooding in. Fellow BBC Radio 2 host and Ru Paul's Drag Race star Michelle Visage said: "I LOVE YOU LINDA! Look at that pride!!!!" The Only Way is Essex's Amy Childs commented: "We love you Linda." Strictly 2024 contestant and actress Sarah Hadland shared: "I’m with her - it’s a big moment and also the discounts she can now look forward to." Capital FM's Sonny Jay gushed: "So cute." Rylan told the Radio Times that his trip to India with his pal and fellow TV star Rob Rinder for their second BBC Radio 2 series, which explores death and mortality among other topics, had not made him think about his own health, but his mother’s. He said: "I’m more worried about losing my mum than losing my own life. I feel like coming back from Varanassi was eye-opening. It made me realise I’ve just got to enjoy things I’m doing, and if I’m not enjoying it, then don’t f***ing do it."

The Home Secretary has issued a statement after police gave new details following a mass stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Ten people were rushed to hospital by ambulance and an 11th victim later attended hospital by themselves after the incident on an LNER service yesterday evening (November 2). The train was brought to a stop at Huntingdon station, where police arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder. Speaking at a press conference this morning (Sunday), Superintendent John Loveless said the incident is not thought to be a terror attack at this time. Join our Court and Crime WhatsApp group HERE He confirmed the suspects were both born in the UK - one, a 32-year-old Black British national, and the other, a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent. Unhappy Mohamed Salah admits Liverpool’s 'freaky season' has been tough but says the Reds are back

Mohamed Salah says Liverpool’s season has been “freaky” and far from ideal, but believes their latest win shows the Reds are finally finding their rhythm again. Mohamed Salah's landmark goal helped Liverpool secure a much-needed 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, simultaneously ending a difficult four-game losing streak in the league and providing a massive boost to manager Arne Slot. Salah's composure in front of goal netted him his 250th goal for the club across all competitions, a feat only surpassed by legends Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285). More significantly, the strike against Villa took his total Premier League goal involvements for the club (goals and assists) to 276 (188 goals, 88 assists), matching the record previously held by Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney for a single club. The 'Freaky Season' Admission The relief was palpable for the reigning champions, who had lost six of their last seven matches across all competitions. Speaking after the win, Salah did not shy away from the club's recent troubles. “We have had a few losses in the Premier League and Champions League, but I am glad we started to come back and it is a good push before some important matches,” Salah told PL website. “I’m not happy with how this season started, but it is a freaky season for us with new signings needing time to adapt and get to know each other. Everything will be fine.” The crucial breakthrough came moments before halftime, courtesy of a rare mistake by Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, whose misplaced pass found Salah to calmly slot home. Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch added the second goal in the 58th minute, capping a professional performance that marked Liverpool's first clean sheet in the Premier League since mid-September. The victory was a decisive result for Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has been under intense pressure following the club's worst domestic run in decades. The arrival of several new signings over the summer, including Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, has necessitated a period of adjustment. Slot has continually stressed the need for patience, and Salah’s comments back this assessment, highlighting the challenge of integrating new talent. Statistically, Salah’s record-equalling achievement, reaching 276 goal involvements in just 298 league games for Liverpool, compared to Rooney’s 276 (183 goals, 93 assists) in 393 appearances for Manchester United, shows his unprecedented efficiency as 'The Egyptian King'. The win lifts Liverpool to third in the league table, providing a much-needed injection of morale ahead of a challenging week. The victory will temporarily quiet the speculation surrounding Slot’s position, giving the squad renewed belief. The true test of their "return" to form comes next, as Liverpool must face a Champions League clash with Real Madrid and a high-stakes Premier League trip to rivals Manchester City. Salah, with his contract extending to 2027, is now perfectly poised to surpass Rooney's record and potentially become the first player to achieve 300 Premier League goal involvements for a single club, further cementing his legacy. The emphatic win over an in-form Aston Villa is exactly the kind of result Slot and his team needed to draw a line under the recent slump. With their talismanic forward in record-breaking form, Liverpool will aim to prove that their 'freaky season' is now an anomaly of the past.

Why cooking gas prices may increase amid looming scarcity

Nigerians could face another cooking gas scarcity as supply glitches have emerged at major depotsRecent market update shows a sharp decline in active supply points, sparking concerns among familiesThe development has led to suppliers and depot operators raising their rates to almost N1,000 per kilogram Pascal Oparada is a journalist with Legit.ng, covering technology, energy, stocks, investment, and the economy for over a decade. Nigerians may soon face another round of cooking gas scarcity as supply disruptions intensify across the country’s depots. The latest market data reveals a sharp decline in active supply points, triggering concerns among households and small businesses already grappling with high energy costs. According to reports from Petroleumprice.ng as of October 31, 2025, only two facilities, Navgas in Lagos and Stockgap in Port Harcourt, are currently dispensing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Navgas sells at ₦920 per kilogram, while Stockgap’s rate has risen to ₦990 per kilogram. Industry insiders warn that this contraction in depot activity could lead to an imminent shortage if not promptly addressed. “Only two depots are selling now, and that’s very risky. It shows there’s a glitch in supply and possible scarcity incoming,” one operator said. Dangote Refinery’s slow output raises Worries Part of the supply strain has been attributed to reduced LPG output from the Dangote Refinery, which was initially expected to stabilise Nigeria’s domestic gas supply. However, recent market intelligence suggests that the refinery’s activities in the LPG segment remain limited and inconsistent. “The activity from Dangote Refinery has been slow. It’s not really selling, and that’s contributing to this emerging supply glitch,” another source disclosed. This has forced marketers to rely heavily on small-scale importers and local producers, further stressing the already fragile supply chain. Analysts caution that unless Dangote and other refineries ramp up production soon, Nigeria could face a repeat of last year’s cooking gas crisis, which drove prices above ₦1,200 per kilogram in some cities. Consumers already feeling the impact The ripple effect of the supply squeeze is now evident at the retail level. Across several states, prices for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder have started to climb again, with dealers warning that further hikes may occur if depot activity does not normalise soon. This could spell trouble for households and small-scale businesses, particularly in the hospitality and food sectors, which depend heavily on LPG for daily operations. “Retail prices are already rising. If the depots don’t resume normal operations, gas may become unaffordable again for many families,” one Lagos-based gas retailer said. Calls for government and industry action Stakeholders are urging the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and private refinery operators to work together in restoring stability to the market. “The LPG market remains fragile. Without consistent production, transportation, and distribution, even minor supply hiccups can trigger nationwide scarcity,” an energy analyst in Lagos noted. He called for a unified strategy that harmonises gas production, storage, and distribution while reducing reliance on imports. Outlook: A tense November ahead As November unfolds, traders hope that more depots will resume loading activities to ease supply tension. However, if the current pattern continues, Nigerians could face another round of price shocks as the festive season approaches. For now, the mood across the LPG market remains cautious. Both consumers and industry players are keeping a close watch on depot inventories and refinery output, hoping for swift intervention to avert another crisis. Cooking gas scarcity hits major cities Legit.ng earlier reported that households across Lagos, Ogun, and other major cities are reeling from severe cooking gas shortages as prices have jumped by over 80%. Where gas once retailed at around ₦1,150/kg, vendors now demand ₦1,600/kg or more. In some areas, queues form at street corners as customers rush to refill their cylinders. Source: Legit.ng

Strictly Come Dancing viewers spot same 'annoying' issue for Harry Aikines-Aryeetey after 'stitch up'

Strictly Come Dancing fans have spotted an 'annoying' issue for Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, which, unfortunately, isn't his fault. The former Olympic athlete has been among the celebrity contestants taking part in this year's series, having been partnered with professional dancer Karen Hauer. But it isn't Harry's first time in the ballroom, with the former Team GB star having taken part on Strictly's Christmas special last year alongside another pro, Nancy Xu. The Gladiators star has been impressing in the BBC One dance contest so far, however, has found himself being criticised by the judges, especially when it comes to themed weeks. On Saturday night (November 1), Harry and Karen were back on the dance floor having made it through to week six of the competition, which just so happened to be the show's annual Halloween special. But it ended up being a difficult night for the pair as they landed at the bottom of the latest leaderboard with 26 points following their American smooth to Mystical Magical by Benson Boone. Anton Du Beke was heard noting the smoothness and fluidity of Harry's performance, but picked up on a mistake in the middle which was also noted by his fellow judges. It led Motsi Mabuse to say: "We saw the mistake, but keep doing what you guys do," while Craig Revel Horwood advised: "I would suggest a softer approach," while admitting that Harry and Karen bring their heart and soul to every dance they do. But Strictly fans felt like Harry was unfairly criticised, blaming the themed weeks for his struggle. @nyealison commented: "Judges seem to be harder on Harry than anybody else. I loved it @karenhauer. They will get all my votes as usual." @heyitsstanka said: "I saw the mistake but it was so minor and he got it back straight away, I was even wondering whether it was supposed to look that way. Annoying how much judges pick him apart for one tiny wrong step but excuse some other people’s mistakes like ‘that happens!’ Ugh anyway!! Well done Karen and Harry, loved the dance! So cute!" @nickib1343 posted: "Inconsistent comments and marking from the judges yet again. He made one minor mistake and recovered brilliantly. Loved this performance." @notthatpoppy wrote: "Once again everyone’s saying george is the victim of bad theming but they’ve got harry doing a ‘spooky’ space age american smooth to abysmal benson boone #Strictly." However, fans think they spotted the reason for his problem. @TashAmaka noted: "Harry has been stitched up costume and dance wise #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing." @robdavidson74 added: "Harry was let down by the costume department- his trousers were too long at back and got trapped under his heel. #StrictlyComeDancing."

Andrew 'refused to sign off statements supporting abuse survivors', King's friend claims

A friend of King Charles and Queen Camilla has claimed that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor routinely refused to sign off statements that supported survivors of abuse following his disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019. The disgraced royal was stripped of his prince and Duke of York titles by the monarch last week over his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. In a statement announcing Andrew's exile , the heads of the family publicly shared their "thoughts and utmost sympathies" with "the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse". In an interview with The Sunday Times , a friend of the King and Queen revealed that references to victims were removed from all previous statements drafted by courtiers and issued by Buckingham Palace. Any such communication had required Andrew’s sign-off, the source added. The former prince denies sexually assaulting the late Virginia Giuffre , who alleged the offences happened on three occasions - including when she was 17 - after being trafficked by Epstein. The friend told the paper the King had "lost patience" with his brother and that Thursday's shock announcement was "no longer a statement by committee, it’s a statement from the King". They added there had long been a sense from the royal family that "voices of the victims needed to be heard in these pronouncements, because they feature so heavily in this saga". There were worries that the allegations levelled at Andrew would affect the credibility of the Queen and the Duchess of Edinburgh’s work campaigning against sexual abuse. Pressure is now building on Andrew to give evidence before a powerful US Congressional committee. Members of the House Oversight Committee have called for the former prince to reveal what he knew about the actions of Epstein and his accomplice and ex-partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. As well as being stripped of his royal titles, Andrew has been evicted from his residence of 22 years - the Royal Lodge in Windsor. It has been claimed Andrew is set to get a six-figure payout and an annual payment as part of his "relocation settlement" after being forced out of his Crown Estate home. The former prince will receive the one-off payment to cover his move, followed by the regular stipend to prevent him from "overspending in his new life as a commoner", The Guardian newspaper reported. The yearly payment privately funded by the King would be worth several times his £20,000-a-year Navy pension, the paper added.

Classic rivalries set to light up opening day of Hong Kong Sixes 2025

Hong Kong, November 2 (ANI): The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 will begin on November 7 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, promising three days of exciting six-a-side cricket in the unique six-over format. The tournament features 12 teams divided into four pools, with top international and domestic players coming together for one of the sport's most entertaining events, as per a release from Hong Kong Sixes. The opening day will see ten matches played, setting the tone for a high-energy weekend of cricket. Among them, three contests stand out for their history and competitive edge. Few matchups draw as much attention as India vs Pakistan, and their meeting in Pool C is among the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament. Dinesh Karthik will lead India, with Stuart Binny on his side, while Abbas Afridi will captain a dynamic Pakistan side. The fixture is known for its passionate following, and fans can expect a full house when the two sides face off on Friday afternoon. Defending champions Sri Lanka will open their campaign against Bangladesh in an all-Asian clash in Pool D. Sri Lanka, led by Lahiru Madushanka, will look to begin their title defence on a strong note after lifting the trophy last year. Bangladesh reached the semifinals in 2024 and will aim to go one step further this time under the leadership of U19 World Cup-winning captain Akbar Ali. Both teams have players with international experience, setting the stage for a closely fought match between two spirited sides. Cricket's oldest rivalry will take centre stage in Hong Kong as England take on Australia in Pool B. The two sides famously met in the 2008 Hong Kong Sixes final, where England came out on top. Their encounter this year is expected to be another intense contest, with both teams eager to start their campaign with a win. (ANI)

3 Dates for Disney Investors to Circle in November

Walt Disney (DIS +0.77%) has a lot on its plate as we head into Thanksgiving later this month. The iconic media stock finds itself trading only marginally higher in 2025. It enters November negotiating with YouTube TV to gets ESPN, ABC, and other of media networks back on the live TV streaming service. Unlike last year -- when Disney put out the year's three highest grossing films worldwide -- it has just one of the nine top draws in 2025. It's still the world's most prolific theme park operator, but its closest rival just reported a big jump for its gated attractions business last week on the strength of a new bar-raising destination. Can a new Disney World experience, encouraging financial results, and a fresh theatrical release get it back on track? Let's take a closer look at some of the dates that Disney investors will want to circle in November. Theme parks may stir up nostalgia, but they are never supposed to be time capsules. The experience needs to evolve to exceed rising price tags and expectations, and that brings us to the official opening of "Zootopia: Better Zoogether" at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida next weekend. Based on Disney's popular Zootopia animated franchise, the animated 3D show has in-theater effects replicating confetti launches, stampedes, and spitting animals. It replaces "It's Tough To Be a Bug," one of the few remaining attractions from when Disney World's fourth theme park opened 27 years ago. There are much bigger changes coming to Disney World's gated attractions in the years to come. However, as the world's most-visited theme park resort starts to gear up for the popular holiday season, it's always good to have something new for guests to experience. Zootopia-related events will serve as bookends this month. The meaty center in this sandwich will be Disney's fresh financial results. There's a lot riding on the fiscal fourth-quarter results that the House of Mouse will be reporting on the morning of Nov. 13. Wall Street pros aren't holding out for much. Analysts are modeling $27.8 billion in revenue, a less than 1% year-over-year increase. The bottom-line outlook isn't better. The $1.03 a share profit that the market is expecting is a 10% decline. A silver lining here is that Disney has come through with double-digit percentage earnings beats in each of the three previous quarters. What was holding Disney back this summer? It fared better on the theatrical front last year with Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. On the theme park front, rival Comcast (CMCSA +1.88%) opened the Epic Universe theme park at its Universal Orlando resort in May -- minutes away from Disney World. Comcast announced financial results on Thursday, turning heads with a 19% increase in revenue for its theme parks business for the first full quarter for Epic Universe operations. Will those gains come at the expense of Disney World's tourist magnets or did an uptick in tourist counts benefit the leader? There are also some big questions to answer with Disney's streaming business. Did Disney+ hold up under the threat of cancellations over the short-lived Jimmy Kimmel suspension? Are subscribers on board with the full-featured ESPN streaming service that launched in August? One thing that happened after the quarter came to a close was subscription prices going up again. Will Disney offer any color on potential churn following the Oct. 21 price hike? Disney is a bellwether of entertainment stocks. In less than two weeks, its own earnings season appearance will be required reading or hearing for all industry investors. A weak year at the multiplex should get a boost in the final few weeks of the year. Zootopia 2 hits theaters on Thanksgiving Eve. Avatar: Fire and Ash will premiere in December, a lock to be the biggest film among this year's theatrical releases. Zootopia 2 should draw well. The original animated feature came out in 2016, one of just four movies to top $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide that year. It's also probably worth mentioning that three of the four biggest movies of 2024 -- from any studio -- happened to be animated sequels. It's the right film at the right time to boost Disney in a year that hasn't gone right as often as investors would like.

$99 earbuds that sound like AirPods? Yeah, I didn't think it was possible either — but these brand-new buds are the real deal

I test a lot of the best earbuds, and not all of them impress me. Actually, I'm quite a harsh critic when it comes to audio gear. If a pair of earbuds, headphones, or a speaker doesn't sound good, then what's the point? Surely its entire reason for existence is to play music well? Thankfully, there's a new pair of the best cheap earbuds on the market. Drum roll, please.... It's the EarFun Air Pro 4+. These are the best sub-$100 earbuds money can buy. Forget spending $179 on AirPods 4. The Air Pro 4+ are nearly perfect, and here's why. Sound so good I can barely believe it As soon as I tried the EarFun Air Pro 4+ at IFA 2025, I couldn't wait to review them properly. I had about twenty minutes to test them in a loud convention hall, and the ANC immediately drowned out external noise. Obviously, a super-loud room isn't the best place to test sound quality, but I was also majorly impressed by the sound. Thankfully, I reviewed the Air Pro 4+ this week, and I gave them 4.5 stars. It's true — they're nearly perfect. And what makes them nearly perfect? The sound. Oh, boy. They sound like angels. The Air Pro 4+ have dual drivers: one balanced armature driver and one standard dynamic driver. These drivers "share the load," so to speak, of representing different parts of the frequency range, so there isn't just one driver trying to cover bass, mids, and highs. The result is a dynamic, surprisingly wide soundscape, with fantastic instrument separation and a balanced performance across the whole frequency range. If you have a compatible device, the earbuds also have aptX and LDAC, two high-res Bluetooth codecs. If you don't like the sound out of the box, though, you're not stuck with EarFun's default EQ. With the EarFun Audio app, you can customize your EQ to your heart's content. There's even a personalized audio profile setting, which is basically a hearing test that then generates an ideal EQ based on your ears' ability to perceive sounds. This feature is similar to JBL's PersoniFi or Soundcore's HearID (from the JBL Live 770 NC and the Soundcore Space One Pro, respectively), but it's great to see on some budget earbuds. Although it's not as advanced as Denon PerL Pro's fantastic Personalized Sound — which uses tiny mics in the earbuds themselves to measure your eardrums' responses to high- and low-frequency sounds), for $99 earbuds, this is awesome. Obliterates other budget competition I've tested a lot of budget earbuds, and let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Only a couple of models stick in my mind: the JLab Go Pods ANC ($36), which are 100% the best sub-$50 earbuds money can buy. Even though I love the EarFun Air Pro 4+, the Go Pods ANC are still my top choice for those on a super-low budget. I also liked the Soundpeats Air5 Pro, but the companion app requested access to my entire media library, which put me off using the earbuds. Sorry, but I'm not about to give a random app access to every single photo and video on my phone. I actually don't allow any apps access to my entire library. I grant app access to individual photos when I need to, which takes more time but it helps me sleep at night. Anyway — I'm getting off track. I'm talking about the utterly fantastic EarFun Air pro 4+, not discussing my app privacy settings. My main point of comparison is to Apple's AirPods series. I suppose you might have heard of them? They're kinda popular, I guess. I use my AirPods Pro 2 every day, and even though they're now discontinued, I still think it's worth comparing to them. They were the flagship premium earbuds for years. I'd say the EarFun Air Pro 4+ sound 90% identical to the Pro 2. Obviously, this isn't a scientific metric — it's just my opinion — but as someone who spends hours and hours every week reviewing earbuds, I think I've got an ear for it now. I also compared the Air Pro 4+ to the brand-new AirPods Pro 3, and I'd estimate the former are 80-85% the quality of the Pro 3. Honestly? I'd go as far to say that the Air Pro 4+ sound identical to the AirPods 4 ($179). There's no doubt in my mind. I also hate the AirPods 4's lack of silicone eartips, but that's just me being picky. For $99 earbuds, that's a phenomenal achievement. If you don't believe me, that's fine. I wouldn't believe me either. I guess you'll just have to try the EarFun Air Pro 4+ for yourself. But annoyingly priced As I mentioned earlier, the EarFun Air Pro 4+'s price on Amazon isn't correct. Although the list price is $129/£109, the earbuds are $99/£89 respectively. If you see the earbuds at a "discount," do not be fooled. This is not a discount. Only a price below $99/£89 is a real discount. This is a wider issue with budget gear on Amazon, so EarFun isn't the only brand that does this, but please heed my warning. Everyone from EarFun to Tozo does this. Even so, I have confirmation from EarFun itself that the Air Pro 4+'s list price is $99/£89. I fundamentally disagree with this pricing strategy, but I understand why budget brands do it. They want you to think the product is even cheaper than it first appears, so that you buy it faster. It's simple psychology. You can use sites like Camel Camel Camel to track Amazon prices, which proves that these earbuds have only ever been sold at $99. ‘Anti-democratic’: All-party resolution demands withdrawal of SIR, vows SC battle

‘Anti-democratic’: All-party resolution demands withdrawal of SIR, vows SC battle The urgency of EC has raised further suspicion. The Enumeration period coincides with the peak north-east monsoon in Tamil Nadu. Synopsis: Tamil Nadu’s all-party meeting condemned ECI’s SIR as a BJP-orchestrated voter suppression tactic, mirroring Bihar’s irregularities targeting Muslims and Dalits. Resolution demands immediate withdrawal, cites legal violations, Supreme Court pendency, Aadhaar misuse, monsoon timing issues, and threats to democracy. Parties vow Supreme Court action if SIR proceeds before 2026 elections. With the SIR (Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Roll) case still pending before the Supreme Court in connection with Bihar, and with no final verdict yet, the announcement of a similar SIR process in Tamil Nadu — just months before the Assembly election — is unacceptable, said the all-party resolution. Opposition parties across India have already opposed the SIR from the beginning, and the meeting strongly condemned the Election Commission of India (ECI) for acting as a “puppet of the Union government” and functioning in an arbitrary manner. The primary concern raised by parties relates to what happened in Bihar: eligible voters — especially Muslims, Dalits, and those considered anti-BJP — were removed from the roll, while ineligible names were added, allegedly as part of a targeted political exercise. The Election Commission has offered no explanation to either Parliament or the Supreme Court. “The ECI is acting like an arm of the BJP,” the resolution said. வாக்காளர் பட்டியல் திருத்தத்தைக் குழப்பங்கள் – ஐயங்கள் இல்லாமல் போதிய கால அவகாசத்துடன், 2026… pic.twitter.com/3OYmvB1Czu — M.K.Stalin – தமிழ்நாட்டை தலைகுனிய விடமாட்டேன் (@mkstalin) November 2, 2025 Despite the serious irregularities in Bihar, ECI has decided to extend the same SIR model to 12 states including Tamil Nadu. Opposition parties said this amounts to “stripping people of their voting rights and burying democracy.” Under Section 169 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any revision of the electoral roll must be notified officially through a Gazette notification by the Union government. The SIR notification has instead been issued unilaterally by EC, in violation of both the Constitution and the law. “This SIR is legally invalid,” the resolution stated. Even though the Supreme Court had ordered that Aadhaar card can only be used as a voluntary supporting document (12th document of proof), the ECI’s 27.10.2025 circular refers to Aadhaar in an unclear manner. The notification lacks transparency and uses vague terminology such as “Aadhaar may be accepted subject to conditions,” which parties say creates room for misuse. Another contradiction The notification says: “No document is to be collected from electors during the Enumeration Phase.” But Annexure-III says that voters must submit age/birth proof to the Electoral Registration Officer when asked. There is no clarity on who will ask, when, under what form, what deadline, or where documents must be submitted. “This confusion is deliberate and meant to delete eligible voters,” the parties alleged. The urgency of EC has raised further suspicion. The Enumeration period — 4 Nov to 4 Dec 2025 — coincides with the peak north-east monsoon in Tamil Nadu. Heavy rains and floods will prevent rural voters, especially farmers, from filling and returning forms, leading to mass deletion of names, they warned. Revenue officials, who are expected to handle this work, will already be occupied with flood-related duties. Further complications will arise as the draft roll timeline overlaps with Christmas and Pongal holidays, making it difficult for those who need to add or correct their names to do so in time. “Preparation of the electoral roll is the lifeline of parliamentary democracy. The Constitution expects the ECI to function impartially and guarantee a level playing field. Instead, it is acting in favour of the ruling party at the Centre,” the resolution stated. Calling SIR “anti-democratic and anti-voter,” the meeting demanded its immediate withdrawal in Tamil Nadu. It also urged the EC to follow Supreme Court directions, fix errors, allow adequate time, and — if necessary — carry out SIR only after the 2026 election, in a neutral manner. The resolution concluded: “If the Election Commission refuses to withdraw SIR, Tamil Nadu’s political parties will have no choice but to approach the Supreme Court to protect the voting rights of the people and safeguard electoral democracy.”

‘It’s a part of who I am’ - Iwobi explains how having faith in God has helped his career

Fulham and Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has spoken about the significant impact his Christian faith has had on his professional career. The 28-year-old recently became the first Nigerian to play over 300 games in the English Premier League, reaching the milestone in Fulham's recent match against Newcastle United. The Super Eagles star has been an important player for club and country, having played a big role in the World Cup qualifying campaign. His contributions, both on and off the field, were recognised at the Best of Africa Awards in London, where he received the Baobab Award in Sport for his inspirational influence. What Iwobi said In a recent interview, the Super Eagles midfielder explained that maturity has helped him embrace his identity and openly express his beliefs. "I’ve learned this the older I’ve got... if you don’t accept me for who I am, that’s literally on you. I’m not afraid to show who I am," Iwobi told CNN. He highlighted how faith is deeply integrated into his football life, particularly with the Nigerian national team. "When I’m playing in Nigeria, we’re literally praying before training and on the bus praying before matches. It’s a part of who I am," he explained. "As long as people can embrace and showcase who they are, no one should be afraid to do that, and it’s amazing to see in this day and age everyone’s comfortable doing that now." Reflecting on his landmark 300th Premier League appearance, the former Arsenal and Everton player admitted he rarely pauses to appreciate his achievements, preferring to focus on what comes next. "I’m not one to take time and breathe and see what I’ve done. I like to keep on going," Iwobi stated. "When I came home from the Newcastle game, even though it was a defeat, just speaking to my parents and how excited they were gave me so much joy."
