Unity group, Parsvnath to earn ₹120 crore in annual rental income from new 5 lakh sq ft mall in Delhi

Realty firms Parsvnath Developers and Unity Group will earn an annual rental income of about ₹120 crore from their new operational shopping mall in the national capital. In 2023, Parsvnath and Unity Group formed an equal joint venture to develop a mall with 5 lakh square feet of leasable area. Last month, they opened the mall 'Unity One Elegante' at Netaji Subhash Place, Delhi. "We have leased 100 per cent of the retail space in our mall," Unity Group Director Harsh Bansal told PTI. When asked about the rental income, he said it would be around ₹10 crore per month and ₹120 crore annually. Bansal said the joint venture firm has to give nearly ₹20 crore as lease rental to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Parsvnath Developers Chairman Pradeep Jain noted that there is a huge demand for quality retail space across the Delhi-NCR market. In a regulatory filing last month, Parsvnath said a special purpose vehicle, 'Unity Parsvnaths LLP', a joint venture with Unity Group, has developed this mall. The shopping mall has been developed on 28,400 square meters. According to Cushman & Wakefield, leasing of retail spaces in shopping malls and prominent high streets rose 45 per cent in July-September to 2.41 million sq ft across eight major cities on better demand for retailers and fresh supply. Unity Group has six operational malls in Delhi and Mohali, comprising around 2 million sq ft. Three of the malls are in partnership. Parsvnath Group has a presence in over 37 major cities across 13 states. It has developed many housing and commercial projects. Published on November 2, 2025

Affordability takes center stage in New Jersey, Virginia governor races

Affordability takes center stage in New Jersey, Virginia governor races

Nearly one year since Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, Americans' concerns and anxieties about high bills, inflation and the cost of living that helped propel him back to the White House now loom over the upcoming elections in New Jersey and Virginia. How acutely voters are grappling with those challenges -- and who they hold responsible for them -- could shape the outcome of the major gubernatorial races, and with them, the trajectory of both parties heading into the 2026 midterms, experts told ABC News. "The theme of affordability is pretty widespread across these elections," Dr. Ashley Koning, the director of the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University, told ABC News. The message of affordability also propelled Zohran Mamdani, a little-known New York assemblyman who has vowed to freeze the rent for rent-controlled apartments in New York City, to the Democratic nomination and helped make him the favorite in Tuesday’s mayoral race. In New Jersey, "it's really a focus on what is happening to people's wallets," Konig said. Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli have both sparred over cost-of-living issues in the governor's race. Sherrill's agenda includes plans to expand affordable housing with tax incentives for developers. She has also said she would declare a state of emergency to freeze utility rate hikes. The Garden State has one of the highest average residential electricity rates in the country, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. According to the Regional Plan Association, New Jersey's electricity rates spiked between 17 and 20% over the summer. Ciattarelli, a businessman and former state representative, has zeroed in on taxes -- vowing to reduce the state's personal and corporate tax rates, and expanding a property tax freeze for seniors in the high-tax state. A new Quinnipiac Poll taken in the final days of the race found that 25% of likely voters say taxes are the most important issue in deciding who to vote for. Some voters in the state have held outgoing Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy responsible for economic conditions in New Jersey, creating a challenge for Sherrill in a state that has not kept the same party in the governor's mansion for three consecutive terms since 1961. "I think most voters probably have that at the front of their mind here because I think everyone's feeling it," Kelsey Anthony, an attorney who voted early for Ciattarelli, told ABC News's Martha Raddatz. "The last eight years have been really telling, and the current administration has really done a number on a lot of New Jersey families." In Virginia, where tens of thousands of residents who are federal workers and have been impacted by the government shutdown, Trump's record -- and frustrations with the federal government -- can be felt more acutely. About 6 in 10 Americans blame Trump for the current rate of inflation, while more than 6 in 10 disapprove of how Trump is handling tariffs, the economy and managing the federal government, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos' KnowledgePanel. "I think it has gotten worse," Juliana, a single mother of three and a clinical technician in a Virginia hospital, told ABC News' Elizabeth Schulze in an interview about the economy since last year's election. "Virginia's really expensive," she said. "In order for you to really make it, you need you need another person in your life that will work with you." Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, a former member of Congress, has focused her closing message on the economy, hitting the Trump administration's trade policy and the impact of the shutdown and cuts to the federal government on Virginians. Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, who has trailed Spanberger for most of the race, has attacked Spanberger over Democrats' positions on the government shutdown and focused on trans issues, which helped Republicans win the governor's mansion in 2021. She has also sought to exploit backlash around violent text messages sent by the affects Zack Roday, a Republican Virginia-based strategist, said Democrats are settling on an economic message that "unifies their party," and that there's still a year for the country's economic outlook to improve and for Republicans to sell Trump's policies ahead of the midterms. "If cost of living is at the top, then that's clearly where they will stay, but there's also a lot of time for the Trump policies -- and a lot of activity around trade and the tax code," he said. "And he has a massive microphone." Even some Democrats concede that there are elements of the Republican tax law popular with voters, such as provisions for no taxes on tips and overtime for some service workers. But cuts to federal government programs, as well as the Trump administration's tariff policy, could overshadow the economic conversation, analysts and operatives told ABC News. "Clearly there is support for [lowering taxes], but it is not a policy position that affects the short-term pain people are feeling," Democratic strategist Caitlin Legacki told ABC News. Vedanta well-positioned to gain from commodity cycle, deleveraging efforts: Analysts

Vedanta's second-quarter results met street expectations on robust operational performance, with analysts viewing the miner as well-positioned to benefit from the commodity rebound while advancing its deleveraging strategy. Brokerages Nuvama, Citi, ICICI Securities and Investec maintained a strong bullish stance on metals and natural resources major Vedanta Ltd. They cited factors such as Vedanta Resources' leverage being at comfortable levels, potential medium-term upside in aluminium on the London Metal Exchange (LME), volume growth, likely lower costs, and the likely completion of the demerger process as reasons for the bullish call. Nuvama said Vedanta's focus on demerger and delivery is on the verge of paying off, supported by tailwinds from commodity prices. The brokerage expects this to contribute to higher third-quarter earnings. "Q3 FY26 EBITDA is likely to jump 20 per cent QoQ led by higher prices, volume, and lower aluminium cost of production," Nuvama said. It increased Vedanta's FY27 estimated EBITDA by 4 per cent to ₹63,450 crore, factoring in higher commodity prices. Citi Research saw potential medium-term upside for aluminium on the LME as a positive factor. "Our commodities team expects aluminium to average $3,500 in 2027. Aluminium has bullish fundamental exposure to structural energy-transition and AI trends and is leveraged to a cyclical growth rebound and US debasement concerns. During 2026, dovish Fed prospects, related lower US real interest rates, and a pickup in the US and global growth expectations are likely to be supportive," it said. In its analysis, Citi factored in higher prices for zinc, aluminium, and silver in FY27, which will boost Vedanta's earnings. "We incorporate FY27 zinc/aluminium/silver at $2,850/ $2,800/ $40 vs $2,700/ $2,600/ $38 earlier. We raise FY26/FY27/28 EBITDA by 6 per cent, 15 per cent and 16 per cent, largely on higher aluminium and zinc LME and power EBITDA (commissioning of new assets)," it said. ICICI Securities said Vedanta is a prime beneficiary of the commodity cycle, with the company's aluminium division continuing to deliver strong earnings amid higher LME prices. "Aluminium division is expected to drive the majority of earnings, aided by better volumes, lower costs, and potentially better LME (aluminium demand-supply likely to be favourable). Power segment and zinc shall play a supporting role," the brokerage said. Stating that Vedanta is a pure commodity play, ICICI Securities noted that the mining major will likely be the biggest beneficiary of a rally in commodity prices. "Aluminium, zinc, and silver contribute over 80 per cent of EBITDA, and the company has good growth plans for these segments, enabling the growth story to remain intact. Additionally, the aluminium segment would see backward integration into bauxite-alumina-coal, which would make Vedanta one of the lowest cost producers," it said. UK-based Investec Bank PLC said that the management execution on debt refinancing at Vedanta Resources - the company's parent firm - is noteworthy, implying a tapering yield ask into FY27 or FY28. Investec also noted that Vedanta's dividends in 1HFY26 stood at ₹23 per share, with the brokerage estimating an incremental dividend of ₹20 a share in H2 FY26. Vedanta's profit after tax before exceptional items jumped 13 per cent year-on-year to ₹5,026 crore. The company clocked second quarter EBITDA of ₹11,612 crore, reflecting 12 per cent YoY growth with EBITDA margin expanded by 69 bps YoY to 34 per cent. Published on November 2, 2025

Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi return as New Zealand announce T20I squad for West Indies series

Auckland [New Zealand], November 2 (ANI): The New Zealand Cricket Team have included fast bowler Kyle Jamieson and spinner Ish Sodhi as New Zealand announced the T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against the West Indies. Uncapped Wellington Firebirds all-rounder Nathan Smith has also been included in the 14-strong squad and could be in line to make his T20I debut after featuring in squads against Sri Lanka home and away last season, according to a press release from New Zealand Cricket. Jamieson returns from the side injury that ruled him out of the ODI series against England, while Sodhi is back in the T20I squad after featuring against Australia at the Mount in early October. The upcoming five-game series will be the Blackcaps' final T20I matches before coach Rob Walter names his preliminary squad to contest the ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February 2026. Matt Henry, who missed the final two ODIs against England with a calf strain, will miss the West Indies T20 series to undergo a pre-planned conditioning block to ensure he is ready for the ODI and Test series. Kane Williamson wasn't considered for selection after earlier today announcing his retirement from T20 International cricket. The West Indies touch down in New Zealand on Sunday night and will take on the Kiwis in five T20Is, three ODIs, and a three-Test series, which runs up until Christmas. New Zealand coach Rob Walter welcomed the returns of Jamieson, Smith and Sodhi. 'Kyle's been back bowling this week and is tracking nicely for this series.' Nathan's made an impressive start to his international career in the Test and ODI formats, and we back him to do the job if he gets his T20 chance in this series. Nathan's made an impressive start to his international career in the Test and ODI formats, and we back him to do the job if he gets his T20 chance in this series,' he said, as quoted by the New Zealand Cricket press release. 'Ish is our most capped T20I player, and it's always great to be able to add his skills, energy and experience to the group. Matt has played every game for the BLACKCAPS since the tour to Zimbabwe in July - so it's the right moment for him to have a short break, and the fact he will also get some time to rehab his calf is another upside,' he added. Walter said that his side will be looking forward to the upcoming five-game series. 'It's great to have five opportunities to take on a dangerous side like the West Indies. I know the team is looking forward to getting into the rhythm of a full series and building some momentum following the rain-affected series to start the summer. The T20 World Cup is coming closer and will obviously be part of people's thinking, but we need to make sure our focus is on the series at home and playing well in front of our home fans,' he concluded. Mass stabbings on train that left nine fighting for life was ‘isolated incident’

A mass stabbing on a train, which left nine people with life-threatening injuries, was an “isolated attack”, and further information on whether it was terror-related will be provided as soon as the UK government has it, the Defence Secretary has said. A man with a large knife is believed to have been shot with a Taser by police after going on a bloody rampage on a high-speed train after it left Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening. British Transport Police (BTP) declared a major incident and said two people were arrested after the train was stopped at Huntingdon station. Police also declared “Plato”, the national code word used by police and emergency services when responding to a “marauding terror attack”, before the declaration was later rescinded. There have been no fatalities so far from the stabbings on the 6.25pm train service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, with the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer describing the incident as “deeply concerning”. A 10th person suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Speaking on Sky News on Sunday morning, John Healey said “there’s no reason for the rest of us not to get on with our lives” as he described the incident as “isolated”. Addressing whether or not the incident was terror-related, he told the broadcaster: “The early assessment is that this was an isolated incident, an isolated attack. “So there’s no reason for the rest of us not to get on with our lives, get on and travel to the places we need to get to. “But those sorts of conclusions, those further assessments and that information will be provided to the public as soon as we’ve got them.” Counter-terrorism police are assisting with the investigation. Mr Healey added that the British public should be “more vigilant”, but said people are “not going to be deflected from carrying out our everyday lives”. Huntingdon railway station remained taped off by police on Sunday morning – with the train still visible on the platform. A number of officers were positioned around the station and the road directly outside the station’s car park, the A1307, was shut with a number of police vehicles are on the road. The Times newspaper said witnesses had spoken of seeing a man with a large knife and passengers hiding in the toilets to escape the rampage. One man, who gave his name as Gavin, told Sky News he believed he saw the suspect tasered before he was arrested. Olly Foster, who also witnessed the incident, told the BBC an older man “blocked” the attacker from stabbing a younger girl, leaving him with injuries to his head and neck. Mr Foster told the broadcaster other passengers used their clothing to try and stem the bleeding. Video footage on social media showed scores of blue-light police cars and emergency vehicles in a station car park before the suspect was arrested, and a team of armed police running towards the stationary train at Huntingdon station. The attack is understood to have started shortly after the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train left Peterborough station. LNER, which operates East Coast Mainline services in the UK, said disruption to its services between London Kings Cross and Lincoln, Doncaster, Leeds, Bradford Forster Square and Harrogate was expected to last until Monday, with passengers advised to defer their travel where possible.

Moses Simon sends strong message to Eric Chelle ahead of World Cup playoff vs Gabon

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has sent a crucial message to Eric Chelle ahead of the 2026 World Cup playoffsThe 27-year-old put up an impressive performance for his club during the Ligue 1 on Saturday night, November 1Nigeria are on the quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar Moses Simon has continued his impressive run for both country and club in the 2025/26 season. The Super Eagles winger scored the winning goal in Paris FC's 1-0 win against Monaco in the Ligue 1 on Saturday night, November 1. Simon completed his move to the promoted side during the summer transfer (June 25) from Nantes and has proven to be a decent player. Monaco, who were six matches unbeaten with two wins and four draws, piled the pressure from the blast of the whistle as they almost went forward in the 14 minutes when Aleksandr Golovin sent an effort wide of the left post. The visiting team soaked up the pressure from Monaco but in the 30th minute, Jean-Pjilippe Krasso rattled the post with his powerful left-footed shot as the first half ended in a stalemate, per beIN Sports.. In the 53rd minute, Moses Simon found the back of the net after connecting to Maxime Lopez's cutback pass. The Super Eagles player's goal secured Paris FC's first win in four matches, which moved them to 10th on the log, per Sofascore. Simon ready for Gabon Moses Simon has taken his goal tally to three for Paris FC in 11 appearances in the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season. His latest strike comes just two weeks ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup playoff clash against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco, on November 13. The former Levante winger came under heavy criticism during the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Lesotho. However, he silenced critics with an explosive performance against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, providing the assist for Victor Osimhen’s third goal with a pinpoint free kick from the right wing, and setting up the fourth goal that sealed Nigeria’s place in the playoffs. Simon will deliver - Saheed Nigeria sports journalist Toyin Saheed believes that Nantes winger Moses Simon can replicate his form in the playoff against Gabon. Speaking in an exclusive comment with Legit.ng, Saheed said Simon remains one of the most outstanding and committed players in the current squad. He added that Nigeria can rest assured that the team is going to the World Cup. Saheed said: “Moses Simon has regained his form and this is good news to the Super Eagles and Nigeria. His goal against Monaco will be a boost for the team and Eric Chelle. We need everyone including the wingers to be ready for the playoffs. “Simon has always given his best to Nigeria whenever he is called upon and he can be pampered if he is having a bad game in some instances." Sam Sodje sounds Nwabali warning Legit.ng earlier reported that former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has urged Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, to act swiftly on what he describes as a growing overconfidence problem with first-choice goalkeeper Nwabali. Sodje expressed concern that Nwabali’s recent attitude and inconsistency could prove costly for the Super Eagles as they chase a World Cup ticket. Source: Legit.ng

Why Gavin Newsom is gambling on new rules for Trump 2.0

Why Gavin Newsom is gambling on new rules for Trump 2.0

At the beginning of the year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom's tenure was marked by devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, a steady stream of ridicule from the White House, and backlash from within the Democratic Party for siding with conservatives on transgender athletes in women's sports. Not to mention, in the summer of 2021, Newsom weathered a blistering attempt to recall him from office -- his starpower at risk. Yet the twice-elected governor has pulled off a reputational heel turn, marked by viral Trump-mocking social media posts and parody MAGA merch coupled with a statewide redistricting measure that would level Republican's attempt to get an edge ahead of next year's midterms. Now, Newsom is a leader running miles ahead of others, experts explained to ABC News. One of the most noticeable transformations was the rebrand of Newsom's official governor social media account. A senior Newsom official told ABC that the weekend of June 6, when the team learned the president was federalizing the National Guard into Los Angeles, was when the "red line" was crossed, and a more defiant version of the Democratic governor debuted. "That is when everything changed, with the governor, with our social media," the official said. On June 10, Newsom's @GovPressOffice account shared a TikTok video, where a voiceover, in the style of a Star Wars villain, mimicked Trump's TruthSocial post announcing the federalization of troops. That post generated over 800,000 views. The salvo continued. The same day, Newsom, on Instagram, responded to Trump mocking him as "Newscum" on Truth Social with a diss-video set to the Taylor Swift (another common Trump target) song "You Need To Calm Down," dismissing Trump as "keyboard warrior." That short video has 11.3 million views. The mocking never let up. 'Newsom Derangement Syndrome' A non-exhaustive list of the incoming includes: accusing Trump of having "Newsom Derangement Syndrome," a play on Trump's oft-referred "Trump Derangement Syndrome;" likening Trump adviser Stephen Miller to Voldemort, the villain from the Harry Potter series, and calling him submissive; calling Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem "Kosplay Kristi" and urging followers to "hide yo dogs," a reference to Noem's infamous tale of shooting and killing her own dog, Cricket; mocking Vice President JD Vance over a debunked rumor that he performed sex acts with a couch; and comparing White House border czar Tom Homan to an uncooked ham. Since then, Newsom's social media accounts have skyrocketed. Follower counts across multiple platforms for his non-government account, @GavinNewsom, ballooned -- growing to more than 11 million followers collectively. Nearly half of those followers were new this year. One of the official accounts, @GovPressOffice, has seen nearly 1 billion impressions on X since those first provocative posts in June, per Newsom's campaign. Newsom even launched his own "patriot" merchandise shop, repurposing Trump's Make America Great Again slogan -- Make America Gavin Again -- and selling REAL PATRIOT hats NEWSOM WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! And REAL PATRIOT hats, and kneepads marked with Trump's signature. A key mark in Newsom's success is upending the "when they go low, we go high" mantra coined by Michelle Obama in 2016, suggested Parker Butler, the former director of Kamala Harris' presidential campaign's buzzy social media channel, @KamalaHQ. "That is not where we are right now." 'It feels very unrestrained' "When we see democracy hanging by a thread, we have to take risks. It feels very unrestrained, that's the kind of energy that I think Democrats need," said Butler, now a digital strategist and co-founder at Luminary Strategies. "We need to throw the sort of old rulebook out the window," Butler added. When Newsom launched his new solo podcast "This is Gavin Newsom" in March, he said he wanted to "debate without demeaning" and engage with people most members his party wouldn't dare to speak to. He called the Democratic brand "toxic." He's positioned himself as a lefty alternative in the GOP-de-jour manosphere space. His interview with Charlie Kirk, for instance, has 1.3 million YouTube views. "When we go low, or when they go low, we go high, doesn't work when they're trying to pull the rug out completely from under us," said Olivia Julianna, a Gen-Z digital strategist and activist who spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Julianna was outraged with Newsom at the start of the year, in part due to his right-wing podcast guests, but she now considers herself a huge fan -- she's even bought his merch. "I did not take Gavin Newsom seriously until he made it clear that he was ready to take action," Julianna added. 'Holding a mirror to the clown show' Newsom's longtime speechwriter and former deputy chief of staff Jason Eliott described the online mockery as a strategy of "holding up a mirror to the clown show that is the Trump administration. We're not doing anything differently than what they are doing." Elliott said the buzz around Newsom's posts creates space for the "actual substantive work," like Proposition 50, the ballot initiative that, if approved by voters on Tuesday, will temporarily adopt a new congressional map that redraws five districts to be more Democratic-leaning, potentially flipping five existing Republican seats in the midterms. Elliott said that since the office has sharpened its tone, donations have poured in from millions of supporters. "How do you get 1.2 million people from all 50 states all across the country to buy into this defense of democracy? You do it by getting attention," Eliott said. Newsom, in a recent interview with ABC News' Jonathan Karl, concurred. "We're trying to have a little humor in this process as well, and we're fighting fire with fire, not just rhetorically, in the context of that back and forth, but substantively, we can get into the 43 lawsuits, we can get in the work we're trying to do on Prop 50," Newsom explained. "We're trying to have a little humor in this process as well, and we're fighting fire with fire, not just rhetorically, in the context of that back and forth, but substantively, we can get into the 43 lawsuits, we can get in the work we're trying to do on Prop 50," Newsom explained. John Dennis, former chair of the San Francisco Republican Party, said Newsom's tactic is the latest iteration of what he and other critics call a history of "shapeshifting." "He doesn't know who he is. So he's trying to be everybody else," Dennis said. But he admits it appears to be working. "This Prop 50 move is a very clever move for the Democrats. And he's got good people around him," Dennis said. "They know that Trump is the center of the universe right now so he's just keeping his name alive and positioning himself as the Trump fighter -- and he's going to run that all the way into the Democrat primaries." Dan Schnur, a longtime California political analyst and UC-Berkeley professor, called the Proposition 50 campaign "a self-delivered political gift for Newsom." Newsom's successes put him in a solid position to launch a presidential bid, an ambition Californians are under no illusions about. "Every governor looks in the mirror and sees a president looking back at them, and Newsom probably whistles "Hail to the Chief" when he's in the shower every morning," Schnur said. "It's hard to predict exactly how the race plays out, but the governor of the largest state in the country, who is also the most visible and impactful Trump critic, and who has access to tremendous amounts of fundraising dollars could be a pretty formidable contender."

So here's the turn of thought. Chioma is a beautiful, well traveled, well educated, well articulated professionally trained chef. Hang on to that part. She's also married to one of Africa's most influential human beings. Together they have influence, visibility, power and resources that most people only dream of. But here's what bothers my business mind. With all of this available Chioma does not own a culinary empire in Africa. There's no recipe line, no series of cookbooks or even a well structured and branded YouTube channel. And that I think is a train of opportunity that passed her by. "Chioma had a chance to build a culinary empire. Chioma's kitchen or Chioma's bites could have become the noble of Lagos. A buffet line similar to Blackbell or a cookery brand that travels with Davido on all of his tours. And all Davido has to do is put that in his contract for every tour that he's making. Or restaurants in London, Atlanta, Lagos, South Africa or cooking shows on Netflix or branded packaged foods in supermarkets. Imagine if Hilda Baci's world record was held by Chioma. Instead at the peak of her name where thousands were singing Chioma my lover she did nothing. The station of opportunity came and went and she didn't get on board. Then you have a lot of up and coming artists that are hoping to run into Chioma or Davido at any of their restaurants that will support them. Then imagine all the global fans that love Davido and love his wife that would love to eat her cooking because she's very famous for her cooking. She had an entire global market ready for her product that she did not capitalize on. And you can't say she didn't have capital. She's a millionaire. And even if she didn't use her own money there are many people in Nigeria willing to throw millions at her for whatever she wants to do. "You also can't say she didn't have marketing. Davido's name alone is enough. Davido shifted the banking industry of Nigeria with one tweet. This is the level of influence we're talking about. But then to this date we have nothing. But this is where it concerns you too. It's not about Chioma alone. We all have our missed opportunities that we refused or failed to capitalize on. The language that you learned and never actually put it to use. The powerful person that you had access to and instead of using them to open doors for you you ask them for money and eventually they cut you out. The business idea that you had and you never tested and then someone else did the same idea and became a multimillionaire. I'm a victim of that. The lesson is simple. When you have a platform in whichever way shape or form that it comes do not let the train just pass you by. Get on the train and become a passenger so you can start your own journey. If you don't build value out of the platform that you have you'll be the greatest at what you do and you'll be the only one that knows it. And maybe Chioma doesn't need any of this. But not everybody can be as opportuned to be as rich and powerful as Chioma. Maybe the one platform you have is the only one that you need to become the greatest at what you do. Use that platform. Tenure is under fire in SC. Defenders say it safeguards academic freedom and fuels the economy.

In the first couple years of her career, University of South Carolina historian Carol Harrison felt firsthand the fragility of academic freedom. She did not have tenure when someone called her a “feminist” and implied she ought to be disciplined for it. The experience scared her. "Accusing a professor of being a feminist, that's not actually a fireable offense, right?" she said. "Accusing a professor of believing in climate science should not be a firing offense. Accusing a professor of doing vaccine research. These are all things we should be free to do. They're important forms of knowledge." Harrison, whose research focuses on French history, Catholicism and women’s history, said the early sense of vulnerability underlined for her why tenure matters. It shields scholars from people who might not like their ideas, she and other proponents say. And it has a positive impact on South Carolina’s economy, drawing in cutting-edge researchers with promises of job security. But tenure increasingly is under attack in South Carolina and beyond. The percentage of tenured and tenure-track professors in South Carolina already had been in decline over the past two decades — following a nationwide trend of increasing part-time and adjunct faculty without tenure protections. Now, spurred on by the recent assassination of a popular GOP campus activist, a group of conservative South Carolina lawmakers — including the S.C. House speaker — have proposed doing away with tenure entirely at the state’s public colleges, claiming it encourages laziness and a lack of accountability. Two tenure-track professors at Clemson University were fired over online comments about the activist, Charlie Kirk, and many of the same lawmakers who called for their removal argued that, going forward, all faculty must be held more accountable for their actions inside the classroom and beyond.

Andrew ‘refused to sign off statements supporting abuse survivors’, King’s friend claims

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor routinely refused to sign off statements that supported survivors of abuse, it has been claimed. The King’s brother was stripped of his prince and Duke of York titles by the monarch over his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday. Charles and the Queen publicly shared their “thoughts and utmost sympathies” with “the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse” as part of the announcement. A friend of the King and Camilla told The Sunday Times that references to victims were removed from all previous statements drafted by courtiers and issued by Buckingham Palace since Andrew’s disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019. Any such communication had required Andrew’s sign-off, the paper said. The former prince denies sexually assaulting the late Virginia Giuffre, who alleged this happened on three occasions, including when she was 17, after being trafficked by Epstein. The friend told the paper the King had “lost patience” and his statement announcing the removal of Andrew’s prince and Duke of York titles was “no longer a statement by committee, it’s a statement from the King”. They added there had long been a sense from the royal family that “voices of the victims needed to be heard in these pronouncements, because they feature so heavily in this saga” and because it affects the credibility of the Queen and the Duchess of Edinburgh’s work campaigning against sexual abuse. Another friend said the King and Queen were aware of the public’s opinion of Andrew, adding: “They have felt the public anger and they have acted”. In 2019, Andrew announced he was stepping back from public life in the wake of his Newsnight interview, saying in a statement that Epstein’s suicide left many unanswered questions for “his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure”. But the 2022 Palace statement on the loss of his military affiliations and royal patronages, and Andrew’s last one on October 17, in which he pledged to stop using his Duke of York title, made no mention of abuse survivors. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. Meanwhile, pressure is building on Andrew to give evidence before a powerful US Congressional committee. Members of the House Oversight Committee have called for the former prince to reveal what he knew about the actions of Epstein. Democrat Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi told BBC Newsnight that he wants Andrew to give evidence before Congress, saying: “I would go so far as to subpoena him.” He added: “Now, enforcing the subpoenas is not easy for somebody who’s on foreign soil. “However, if Andrew wishes to come to the United States or he’s here, then he’s subject to the jurisdiction of the US Congress, and I would expect him to testify.” Congressman Suhas Subramanyam echoed his stance, telling BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I think this would be a great way for Andrew to clear his name. “It would be great way for us to continue our pursuit of justice for the victims, and frankly, Andrew’s name has come up many times from the victims, and so he clearly has knowledge of what happened, and we just want him to come forward and tell us what he knows.” Lawyer Spencer Kuvin, who represents some of Epstein’s victims, also urged Andrew to testify. “He could testify about other potential co-conspirators that he saw that may have been present at the mansions here in the States that were doing inappropriate activities,” he told BBC News. The Metropolitan Police has been facing calls to fully investigate the sex abuse claims against Andrew – nearly a decade after they ruled out a criminal probe. A spokesperson for the Met Police said it was made aware of allegations around non-recent trafficking for sexual exploitation in 2015 which “related to events outside the UK and an allegation of trafficking to central London in March 2001”. They added that following the legal advice, “it was clear that any investigation into human trafficking would be largely focused on activities and relationships outside the UK”, so officers concluded that “other jurisdictions and organisations were better placed to pursue the specific allegations”. And in November 2016, a decision was made that this matter would not proceed to a full criminal investigation, the force said. Media focus on Royal Lodge is continuing, with Andrew preparing to finally quit the 30-room home in Windsor by moving to a new home on the King’s private Sandringham estate in Norfolk in the new year. On Saturday morning, a car bearing a private number plate linked to the former prince was seen leaving the grounds of Windsor Great Park. It has been claimed Andrew is set to get a six-figure payout and an annual payment as part of his “relocation settlement” after being forced out of his Crown Estate home. The former prince will receive the one-off payment to cover his move, followed by the regular stipend to prevent him from “overspending in his new life as a commoner”, The Guardian newspaper reported. The yearly payment privately funded by the King would be worth several times his £20,000-a-year Navy pension, the paper added. It is understood the King will use private funds to cover the cost, but not his Duchy of Lancaster income. The King receives an annual private income of more than £27 million from the duchy, an ancient portfolio of land, property and assets which is held in trust for the sovereign. Andrew will, however, be denied most of his half a million pound compensation for giving up his lease on Royal Lodge. He was due a payout of £558,000 from the Crown Estate after agreeing to leave the mansion, but a royal source told The Telegraph there is “a lot of work that needs doing” with the cost of repairs affecting the amount.
