This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on pace, ambiguity, variety and scope.Lots of words that boil down to overseeing product roadmaps, engineering teams, and technical architecture across three distinct businesses. You’ll need to be comfortable leading juniors, mids, and a leader within a new SLT group. What the role is in year one will be very different from year two and beyond. The words transformation and change come to mind as a way to pave the way for further growth. What You'll Do…Product LeadershipDefine and drive product roadmaps aligned with business objectivesAnalyze customer needs and translate them into market-leading featuresOwn delivery timelines and ensure consistent execution across businessesMake critical architectural and API strategy decisions.Team ManagementLead and develop 7-8 engineers onshore and more offshoreAssess current team capabilities and optimize structureBuild a high-performing culture focused on delivery and quality, as well as transparencyFind quick, meaningful efficiency gains within Product and Engineering.Technical DirectionGuide platform architecture and replatforming decisionsOversee API development and third-party integration strategyChallenge technical approaches and drive best practicesAddress legacy system issues and technical debt strategically. What we are after… Essential ExperienceProven track record in roles driving significant changePE/VC portfolio company or experience in early-stage or scaling environmentsDirect management of engineering teams, not just product managersAbility to make decisions on architectural decisions without hands-on codingExperience in managing distributed/offshore development teams.Leadership StyleComfortable switching between strategic planning and tactical executionBias toward action and rapid problem-solvingStrong communicator who can influence across all organizational levelsPragmatic approach to balancing innovation with delivery.Technical CapabilitiesDeep understanding of API development and integration patternsExperience with platform assessment and migration strategiesAbility to evaluate and improve development processesTrack record of solving complex technical and delivery challenges. We aren’t expecting you to cut code or bring what a CTO would to the table, but lead high-performing engineering teams as a Product leader. You're technical enough to challenge and make architectural decisions but strategic enough to set direction. You're equally comfortable presenting roadmaps to executives and debugging delivery bottlenecks with your team. You thrive on building and fixing, not optimizing a well-oiled machine.Think of this gig as your "these aren't the droids you're looking for" moment—except we actually are the droids you're looking for, if you're into fixing legacy systems and shipping products at ludicrous speed. I like Star Wars. I can't help it.If this sounds like it might float your boat, apply and say hi!Brett Skeenbrett.skeen@affix.com.au
