We assure supportive learning environments, meaningful experiences and healthy relationships that create opportunities to develop resilience, to gain diversity in perspectives and to achieve enduring success for both staff and students.The OpportunityParkland School Division is seeking a Director, Financial Services - to serve as the strategic and operational leader for the Division’s financial operations. Reporting to the Associate Superintendent of Corporate Supports & Services (CFO), the Director is responsible for the leadership, management, and operation of the division's financial services department. You will lead a dedicated team and be responsible for all core accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting,internal controls, payroll and procurement.The ideal candidate is a collaborative and strategic leader with a strong background in public sector accounting, capable of managing complex financial systems and providing clear, accurate analysis to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees ensuring compliance with legislation, policy, and sound financial practices.Responsibilities Include Financial Operations: Oversee all core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and general ledger maintenance. Budgeting & Reporting: Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the division's annual operating, capital budgets and quarterly forecasts. Financial Reporting: Prepare and present timely and accurate financial statements, variance reports, and forecasts for senior management, the Board of Trustees, government and other stakeholders. Ensure all reporting is in compliance with Alberta Education and Childcare requirements and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Audit & Compliance: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors and lead the preparation of the annual audited financial statements. Ensure robust internal controls are in place and followed. Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the Financial Services team, fostering a culture of accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide financial leadership and training to instructional and operational leaders throughout the organization. Strategic Support: Provide financial analysis and strategic advice to the Associate Superintendent and other division leaders to support decision-making, long-term planning, and resource allocation. Systems Management: Oversee the maintenance and integrity of the division's financial information systems and student information systems as they relate to funding. About The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will have the following: Sector Knowledge: Experience in a public-sector environment (such as a school division, municipality, or post-secondary institution) is strongly preferred. Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and demonstrated experience with complex, integrated financial software and systems including advanced proficiency in financial modeling and analysis. Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a professional team. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. A collaborative leadership style and a commitment to service excellence. Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and ethical leadership in all financial and organizational practices. Committed to fostering positive relationships and advancing the Division’s mission, values, and community priorities . Education And Experience An undergraduate degree in management, commerce, or a related field and a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) are required. A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in a senior financial role, including leadership and management team. Experience with accounting and reporting, cash flow and investments, financial planning, projections, operating and capital budgets. Strong preference for experience in a public-sector environment (school division, municipality, or post-secondary institution).Excellent knowledge of financial information systems and ability to enhance business processes. Sound understanding of emerging trends within the financial management field as well as within the broader education sector. A sound understanding of all aspects and functions of a school division, including site-based decision making, financial management, and technology applications to enhance organizational effectiveness.
