Open to any current Municipality of Anchorage employee working within the Solid Waste Services Department.his is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services (SWS)HOURS OF WORK: Monday thru Friday: Hours are TBDLOCATIONS: Central Transfer Station 1208 East 56th Avenue & Anchorage Regional Landfill 15500 E. Eagle River LoopThe Superintendent oversees and directs day to day operations and maintenance of the Disposal utility. This includes the Central Transfer Station, Girdwood Transfer Station, and the Anchorage Regional landfill. Duties include scheduling staff and equipment, monitoring costs of services, providing direct supervision of subordinates and performance evaluations, completing disciplinary action reports, and conducting interviews for both new and existing employees. Responsible for conducting accident investigations and assisting with the negotiation of new union contracts. Provides support to the CFO in budget preparation and manages administrative responsibilities in the division. Responsible for identifying and resolving issues on the maintenance of disposal facilities and equipment. Provide support in the strategic planning and expansion of upcoming landfill cells. Additionally, the Superintendent is responsible for developing detailed specifications for procuring new equipment, managing gravel excavation and storage, overseeing leachate storage and removal, coordinating warehouse operations, implementing bird control measures, and addressing facility maintenance requirements.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.ORAssociate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, electrical/automation technology or a related discipline and seven (7) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.ORBachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline and five (5) years of experience specific to the responsibilities of the role, which includes two (2) years in a supervisory or lead position.Must Possess The FollowingValid State of Alaska Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement at time of hire.Satisfactory driving record at time of hire.Satisfactory Drug Test at time of hire.Manager of Landfill Operations Certification (MOLO) by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) within six (6) months of hire.Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program.
