As part of the new Design Support Contract (DSC) which will commence in 2025, we are seeking applications from talented intermediate and senior level Electrical Engineers to join our teams based in Sydney Garden Island Defence Precinct office.This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside industry leaders and like-minded engineers on sustaining Navantia designed warships in service with the Royal Australian Navy (including Hobart Class DDGs, Canberra Class LHDs and Supply Class AORs).In the role you will be responsible for delivering electrical and controls systems for naval ships. Systems responsibility includes:• Electrical Plant – Electric Motors, Generators.• Electric Cabling, Connections and Cable Installation Systems.• Power Distribution Systems, Protection Devices and Switchboards.• Power Conversion Equipment and Batteries.• Ships Lighting System.• Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)• Alarm Systems and Warning SystemsYour responsibilities will include:Provide high level of electrical engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.Complete electrical and control systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process.Undertake technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification.Create engineering designs to integrate platform electrical and control systems into naval vessels.Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established Navantia and customer standards.Work effectively within the broader Navantia Engineering Team to engage with different engineering disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs.Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule and engagement of internal and external stakeholders.Participate in the design coordination meetings with the rest of the Engineering Team members.Participate in Design Review meetings with the Client.Liaison with Clients (internal & external) and subcontractors.Requirement’s analysis and verification development.Provide mentoring and support to junior engineers, as applicable.Project Management, including management of task schedule, resourcing, budget and progress monitoring and reporting.Assist in planning and coordinating on‐board installation works, including scopes of work, installation work packages and test procedures.As the ideal candidate, you will have:Bachelor’s degree ‐ Engineering (Electrical)Proven skills and experience in a electrical engineering function.Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment.Experience with electrical and control systems on a naval ship platform, including with medium voltage power design and analysis up to 440VAC.Proven ability to produce clear and well‐presented reports to a suitable quality and standard.Strong interpersonal skills.Project Management skills.Experience working with technical shipbuilding regulations (Classification Society and IMO requirements).Experience in the relevant CAD/3D software package (Micro‐station, AUTOCAD).Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and Clients.Australian Citizenship.What it's like to work with Navantia AustraliaNavantia Australia plays a key part in the Australian government's Naval Shipbuilding Plan, we are committed to growing Australia's shipbuilding and sustainment capability and we want you to grow your career with us.
