Cap Services provides engaging, low-cost and no cost family, youth, and seniors’ programs and support services for North Shore residents. Our programming enhances social connectedness, wellbeing, resiliency, and promotes a sense of community belonging.  Cap Services operates and delivers programming out of Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre (LGCRC).      Overview of the Family and Children’s Program   Established in 2021, our Family and Children’s Program supports families with children aged newborn to 5 years old. We offer a variety of activities that foster social-emotional learning, offer opportunities to experience and explore indoor and outdoor spaces and strengthen parenting knowledge and skills. We provide opportunities for children and adults to come together to learn and connect in a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally safe environment. We offer structured and unstructured play that includes activities such as songs and story time, music, arts/crafts, imaginary play, fine and gross motor skills, along with parent education, resources, and referrals. We do not offer childcare or daycare programs.  Overview of the Family and Children’s Program Supervisor Role The Supervisor will play a key role in the development, delivery and expansion of our Family and Children’s Program. As we build capacity, an integral responsibility of the Supervisor will be to promote our programs in the community, and ensure programming is accessible and engaging.   The Supervisor has overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of all family and children’s programs and services, ensuring the delivery of relevant, high-quality and successful programs that meet the needs of the community. The Supervisor leads a team of staff and volunteers to collaboratively plan, coordinate and deliver onsite programs and services.  The Supervisor will work collaboratively with the Cap Services management team and reports to the Executive Director.   Responsibilities of the Family & Children’s Program Supervisor  Oversees and monitors family & children’s program and activities, assuring they align to community needs and interests. Provides supervision of program staff and volunteers including developing staff schedules, managing work assignments, planned and unplanned absences.  Develops and plans drop-in and registered programs and support services in consultation with other program staff. Delivers, facilitates, and supervises program activities, such as arts/crafts, music, circle time, storytelling, cooking and parent education workshops.  In collaboration with other Cap Services programs and LGCRC service partners, coordinates program delivery including scheduling of programs, staff, volunteers, and facilitators. Creates a welcoming environment and ensure families are familiar with the rights and responsibilities of participation in the program. Encourages and models positive behaviour within the group setting. Builds relationships with families and recognizes children/families who are potentially at-risk, in order to offer additional support, including connecting families to community resources, initiating referrals for families, and supporting them in the navigation process. Implements processes to evaluate family and children’s programs and services, and prepares reports as required for the Cap Services board of directors, and funders. In collaboration with the executive director and manager of administrative services, manages program financial resources, ensuring the program operates within the assigned budget and expenditures are in line with all organizational policies and/or funder requirements, as applicable.  Ensures appropriate resources are available to support and maintain programs, identifying any barriers to successful program execution and escalating as appropriate. Participates in fundraising activities and provides input on the preparation of funding/grant applications, as directed.  Maintain policies and procedures for the Family and Children’s Program in accordance with the broader principles and practices of Cap Services. Ensures program standards, guidelines and policies of the organization are adhered to, especially those related to staff and participant safety and suspicion of child abuse. Ensures that client information is maintained appropriately and confidentially secured.  Ensures the executive director is updated on key issues that are directly related to family & children’s programs and services.  In consultation with executive director, interviews, hires and onboards new staff.  Recruits and onboard new volunteers for the Family and Children’s program. Monitors performance and mentors program staff and volunteers. Implements support as required and in consultation with the executive director.  Provides input and develops communications and marketing collateral for program events and projects.  Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with all Cap Services staff, volunteers, clients and partners to achieve organizational goals and build relationships in an environment of inclusion and respect. Represents Cap Services in the community and builds relationships with other community services providers, such as early childhood educators, health practitioners, and Indigenous community service providers to identify potential opportunities for partnerships/collaboration and develop reciprocal referral sources. Maintain a commitment to ongoing learning and remain current on emerging trends and issues regarding child and family development work, and parenting practices, along with up-to-date knowledge of local community services and resources. Performs other related duties as assigned.   Qualifications and Experience   A certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Infant Development and Supported Child Development (IDSC), or Family Resource Practitioner (FRP).  A minimum of 2 years recent experience in program development, delivery, and facilitation, ideally in a coordinator or supervisory role, working with children 0 to 5 years old and their families, in a play-based, family-centred setting.  An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered. Experience working with diverse cultural groups including Indigenous children and families is preferred. Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate with infant/toddler certification. FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate an asset. Training in Mother Goose, Nobody’s Perfect Parenting, or similar programs is an asset.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Self-directed, innovative, creative, flexible, and solution-focused. Ability to model and support conflict resolution with children and adults. Ability to use good judgement, and demonstrate sensitivity, when working with vulnerable individuals and when making referrals. Demonstrated awareness, understanding and sensitivity in all issues related to diversity and inclusion (such as financial status, social isolation, learning ability, gender and sexual identity, language, cultural identity, and migration status). Passionate about supporting and providing opportunities for families and children to thrive.  Demonstrate basic computer literacy in standard office software programs and comfort navigating online meeting platforms. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and operate within an assigned budget. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment, and successfully manage multiple programming and administrative deadlines.  Ability to speak another language in addition to English is an asset. Ability to carry up to 20 lbs and move furniture as required for room set-up/clean-up.  Applicant Criteria  Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations. A successful criminal record and vulnerable sector check will be required prior to the start of employment. Valid unrestricted (no “N”) class 5 driver’s license. Regular access and use of own vehicle is required for this job (mileage expenses reimbursed).    How To Apply  To apply for this job, please email your cover letter and resume by 4:00pm on Friday, November 28, 2025 to: Maralyn Wild, Manager, Community Development at: maralyn@capservices.ca No phone calls please. We thank all candidates for applying and will only be contacting shortlisted candidates.
