The ideal candidate is a collaborative visual storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about translating complex information into clear, engaging, and accessible designs.This qualified individual will join a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to delivering impactful communication products that support public health initiatives.Roles and Responsibilities:Create and design informational materials (both print and digital) to effectively communicate scientific, medical, and public health messages.Provide creative visual solutions to communication challenges and ensure final products convey the intended message appropriately for the target audience.Provide consultation, strategic guidance, and direction to internal clients, guiding them through the creative design process while delivering excellent customer service.Collaborate with subject matter experts, health communication specialists, and web and social media teams to create effective products. Work both independently and collaboratively within a design team.Ensure all graphic products meet organizational branding requirements, Section 508 accessibility standards, health equity guiding principles for inclusive communication, and other applicable standards.Use the graphic design project management system to track the status of assigned jobs and ensure timely and efficient project completion.Inform the Team Lead of project status and seek support when needed to resolve complex design challenges or client issues.Attend team meetings, provide input, and maintain strong, positive relationships with colleagues and clients.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience or 9 years with a HS Diploma.Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, including grammar skills suitable for native-speaking audiences in both languages.5 years of experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to create visual communication products.5 years of graphic design experience, including typography, color theory, and layout design.A strong portfolio demonstrating clear knowledge and application of graphic design principles.Expert knowledge of typography for long-form layout (e.g., measure, kerning vs. tracking, leading, typesetting, rhythm and proportion, typeface pairing, special characters and punctuation, families vs. classification).Expert knowledge of layout principles including visual hierarchy, balance, color theory, grids, scale, and proportion.Experience developing large, multi-chapter publications for commercial print and Section 508 web standards (chapters, table of contents, index).Knowledge of print production, including preparing and packaging files for press, understanding CMYK vs. RGB, registration marks, slug, bleeds, and trim.Experience designing in line with WCAG and Section 508 accessibility standards, including proper color contrast, text scaling, screen reader compatibility, heading structures, and paragraph vs. character styles.Strong client and colleague communication skills and openness to feedback, critique, and discussion around design rationale and implementation.Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.Must be able to obtain and maintain required agency clearance. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and/or Visual Communications.Experience designing for public health organizations.Experience applying brand standards and maintaining brand consistency across multiple presentation and design formats.Experience incorporating motion graphics, animations, transitions, or other engaging elements into digital platforms, including creating GIFs or embedding video.Experience creating digital forms.Understanding of generative AI tools within creative production workflows.SCA / Union / Intern Rate or RangeDetailsTarget Salary Range: $51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
