Akalan Law Firm, PLLC is seeking a skilled Law Clerk for a remote position, with a focus on U.S. immigration and removal defense. As a firm headquartered in New York, we are dedicated to assisting immigrants around the world through the immigration process and ultimately helping them achieve citizenship. This role entails working closely with attorneys and supporting both administrative and legal staff in handling complex immigration cases, with a particular emphasis on removal defense. The successful candidate will be involved in various aspects of U.S. immigration law and is expected to collaborate effectively with the team remotely. The responsibility mainly covers immigration laws in the United States. In this Role, You Will:Assist attorneys in representing clients on a variety of affirmative immigration matters with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).Prepare removal defense related petitions, applications, briefs, and call-ups, contributing to comprehensive defense strategies.Report to attorneys on all aspects of the immigration process, including but not limited to the identification of options for relief, preparation of immigration forms, and representation in adjustment of status, citizenship proceedings, asylum proceedings, supervision appointments before U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and removal proceedings.Maintain documentation, manage filing systems, and ensure direct communication with the attorneys. Your Qualifications and Experience:University degree in law from a reputable university.Fluency in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Documentation of a TOEFL score of 100 or higher, or an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 or higher, will be considered an asset.Proven experience in removal defense, demonstrating a strong ability to handle complex immigration cases effectively.Experience working with USCIS, ICE and DHS, understanding their protocols and procedures in immigration enforcement and case handling.Engagement in the Turkish attorney traineeship process or recent admission to a Turkish Bar Association. This is a full-time, remote position.
