The current response portfolio focuses on Health, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and WASH programming through Project HOPE programs and local partnerships.This role is offered as a consultancy position based in Jamaica for Local Nationals only. We are looking to fill 4 (four) positions. These consultants will be working in the western regions of Jamaica supporting operations near Westmoreland, St. James, Trelawny, Hanover, and St. Elizabeth parishes. This is six- month consultancyPosition SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Midwife is to provide comprehensive maternity care in a challenging setting, ensuring maximum access and utilization of services by affected populations in areas without health care, and referring when possible. In addition, the midwives may be asked to support healthcare delivery through Project HOPE in the communities where they are residing.This role is offered as a consultancy position based in Jamaica for Local Nationals only. We are looking to fill 4 (four) positions. These consultants will be working in the western regions of Jamaica supporting operations near Westmoreland, St. James, Trelawny, Hanover, and St. Elizabeth parishes. This is six- month consultancyPrincipal ResponsibilitiesDeliver comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, with an emphasis on maternal care, in humanitarian and crisis-affected settings.Ensure equitable access for all populations, including screening, initial management, and referrals related to gender-based violence (GBV), mental health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), malnutrition, anemia, and neonatal complications.Independently manage low-risk pregnancies, ensuring consistent follow-up and adherence to establishedclinical guidelines and protocols.Screening of all pregnant and lactating Women with supplementation of HEB and LNS-MQ when available using MUAC Screening method.Promptly identify and ensure safe referral of high-risk pregnancies to a gynecologist/obstetrician forspecialized evaluation and treatment.Conduct and supervise respectful and evidence-based labor, childbirth, immediate newborn care, and postnatal services, particularly for women unable to access hospital-based care. This includes the emergency stabilization of maternal and neonatal cases and coordination of medical evacuations when necessary.Support gynecologists during sensitive clinical procedures and examinations, offering appropriate medicalassistance and ensuring patient dignity and safety.Administer family planning services, providing comprehensive counseling on available contraceptive methods, potential side effects, and follow-up requirements to ensure informed choices.Oversee nutrition screening for pregnant and lactating women, ensuring adherence to established treatment protocols in collaboration with the Nutrition Department.Prepare and submit accurate and timely SRH service reports, including daily and weekly statistics and narrative updates, as per organizational and donor requirements.Maintain meticulous documentation and registration of all SRH beneficiaries, ensuring data integrity and continuity of care.Ensure the operational continuity of the SRH unit in the absence of the obstetrician, acting within the professional scope and regulatory limitations of the midwife role.Facilitate health education sessions for beneficiaries, covering essential topics such as breastfeeding, pregnancy danger signs, self-care, and appropriate care-seeking behaviors.Provide psychosocial support and clinical guidance during emotionally challenging circumstances, including miscarriage, stillbirth, congenital abnormalities, or neonatal death.Strictly adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols and follow all guidance provided by the designated IPC Focal Point to maintain a safe environment for both staff and beneficiaries.Work in close coordination with the MMU Supervisor to compile, verify, and submit reports and relevant health data.Ensure strict confidentiality of all patient records and reports, sharing information only with authorized personnel in compliance with data protection and privacy standards.Uphold Project HOPE’s Code of Conduct, core humanitarian principles, and actively support the implementation and promotion of PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) protocols in all professional interactions.Perform any other duties as assigned, in alignment with the scope of the midwife role and organizational needs.Minimum QualificationsMidwife certification and registration required.A minimum of two years’ experience as a midwife in public or private health facilities.Ability to provide and counsel on basic STI treatment and family planning preferred.Willingness to work in unstable areas.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and working English required.Must be able to demonstrate a positive working relationship with clients and colleagues with professionalism and integrity.Demonstrated skills in creative problem solving particularly in limited resource settings.Understanding humanitarian work / having worked with vulnerable populations.Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to humanitarian principles.Flexibility and Adaptability: Adapts to changes in work environment.Identifies with Project HOPE mission, vision and core values.Open to residents of Jamaica onlyPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Consultants should be able to work in an office setting, communicate effectively, and travel as needed. Assignments may include field or emergency deployments in austere or hardship environments.
