Job Description SummaryThe Occupational Health Physician will provide occupational health services for the designated legal entity in Istanbul and oversee occupational health for other legal entities and locations in Turkey (approximately 30% of total working time).The role includes supervising occupational health activities across the EAGM zone, which comprises Africa (Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa), Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, etc.), TCA (Turkey, Iran), and RCIS (Russia, Kazakhstan).The position reports to the EMEA Occupational Health Lead and aligns with the global Occupational Health & Wellbeing (OHW) strategy in collaboration with HR and EHS leadershipJob DescriptionOccupational physician EAGM.EAGM is a zone within International region, and part of the region formerly known as EMEA, comprising the zones Aquila, EAGM and VEGA, which for their occupational health fall under the Occupational Health Lead for EMEA.The EAGM zone comprises The LCT’s Africa (Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa) Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan a.o), TCA (Turkey and Iran) and RCIS (Russia and Kazakhstan).Within the strategy for the A-E-V region EAGM, together with the Francophone Africa countries in Vega, takes a special place. The countries generally have higher risks in occupational and general health while capability in terms of occupational health and medical care is less than in the rest of the region.This puts a higher responsibility on GEHC to assure the health and wellbeing of the employees. It means additional activities on top of the regional strategy are needed to achieve the same results and create equitable access to occupational health and medical care.The Zone has a higher need for medical emergency response support because of the external risks both occupational and non-occupational, because of lack of capability and infrastructure.All in all, EAGM needs a more hands on proactive approach to build occupational health capabilities and ensure access to care.RCIS has a well-organized occupational health and medical system. To be able to support this part of the zone sufficiently in quality and cost, we need to have a better understanding of the occupational health care services provided.The role includes providing occupational health in the designated legal entity in Istanbul directly and supervising occupational health for other legal entities and locations in Turkey. This role should take about 30% of the total working time.The Occupational Health Physician reports to the EMEA Occupational Health Lead, who sets the strategy and the priorities together with the HR and EHS leadership for Aquila, EAGM and Vega, in line with to the global Occupational Health Wellbeing (OHW) strategy.Tasks And ResponsibilitiesCarry out planning of Global and Regional (A-E-V) OHW in EAGM Zone, Coordinate and align with Aquila and Vega, especially where it concerns similar countries, eg in Africa, ME and Eastern Europe.Provide expert advice to management, EHS, HR and occupational health in the zone on occupational health and wellbeing.Build a strong occupational health system in EAGM and standardized processes to ensure quality, compliance, and business license to operate.Ensure adequate governance for all occupational health activities, including through audits and risk-based decision-making.Occupational HealthImprove quality of occupational health clinics operating under control of GEHC, clinics through audit and follow up, providing guidance and implementing evidence risk-based standards in line with Global OHW.Support and build capability in occupational health in countries with low level of OH competence. In many countries in Africa, occupational health providers are general doctors and not trained OH specialists. The EAGM occupational health physician will improve the quality of the occupational health provided through training, supervision, providing GEHC guidelines and standards where needed adapted to local circumstances and legislation, and being available for consultation on cases. This while leaving the responsibility at the country level and respecting privacy regulations.Assess occupational health and wellbeing contracts for quality and costs.Contribute to regional and global standards and guidance.Support HR and managers on medical absence discussions, return-to-work planning, and disability accommodations for diverse needs.Support compliance with local legislation while maintaining GEHC standards for inclusivity and accessibility.Access to medical careSupport MERP process and support to country or project MERPs and epidemic / disaster preparedness in designated EAGM countries,Provide emergency health support for medical emergencies and crises in EAGM,Ensure travel health for all travelers to low resource setting, including projects in EAGM,Advise on adequate health care and occupational health coverage and selection of providers for employees and travelers in low resource settings in EAGM. This through being directly involved in the sourcing process.Assess health insurance and medical care contracts for quality and costsWellbeingPrepare for effective wellbeing program, in under direction of regional OHW in compliance with strategy set by Global,Advise on wellbeing and vitality activities in the zone.Drive health promotion initiatives and collaborate with vendors to deliver innovative wellbeing programs tailored to local needs.Provide consultation on employee benefits related to health and wellbeing.Provide direct occupational health for employees of designated legal entity in Istanbul and oversee occupational health programs in both Istanbul and Ankara. This role does not include direct responsibility for occupational health in other clinics or service locations.OH Physician in EAGM accountability and reporting linesHierarchical and functional reporting to Occupational Health Lead EMEAReporting lines and responsibilitiesFor occupational health services under GEHC control (eg where there is an own own clinic with own staff, an own clinic with outsourced staff, or an occupational health provider working under direct instruction from GEHC) there is functional responsibility. The occupational health services themselves will remain under the EHS or HR of the country. Training, standards and guidelines and other support will be provided, within the legal context of that country, and leaving the responsibility at the country level and maintaining data security.For outsourced occupational health services, with no direct control, there is no direct responsibility of the EAGM occupational health physician, he needs to be involved in setting the contracts, assessing if the terms of the contract are met and can be asked by EHS or HR to intervene in specific cases. If there are concerns that there is insufficient capacity, standardization, legislation etc in the country on occupational health; training, standards and guidelines and other support will be provided, within the legal context of that country, and leaving the responsibility at the country level and maintaining data security. The aim is then to build capability in the country.Medical confidentiality and data-security responsibility remain with the country. Medical data may only be shared with the EAGM occupational health physician with the explicit consent of the employee and for the purpose of consultation, training, or supervision with the aim of quality improvement.Activities in the clinic in Turkey fall under EHS Turkey. Functionally under OHW. The activities need to focus on occupational health and wellbeing and can include primary care medical consultations if needed.Escalation and consultationBesides the need to support the zone directly, there is also a need to control costs and create alignment across the zones.Standards, guidelines, and other guidance that may affect more than one country or costs, need to be aligned with the regional occ health lead.Emergencies and outbreaks are always escalated to the regional occupational health lead for information and if need be for alignment.Setting priorities in planning and their evaluation need to be done together with EHS and the regional occ health lead.EHS Specific Goals:Comply with the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Policies and applicable laws and regulations.Complete all mandatory EHS training. Actively participate in accident & incident investigation and follow up.Maintain defined levels of housekeeping & ensure a clean, clear workplace and participate in EHS inspections. Identify and correct hazards and unsafe conditions.The role requires a specialization in occupational health, with a local registration and at least 5 years experience out of which three in an international context.Additional InformationRelocation Assistance Provided: No
